I would KILL for a paradox form of Golurk. Either a “past” form that leaned into the clay golem inspiration of the mon, or a “future” form that goes 100% on the big strong guardian robot aesthetic.

It's worth noting that Iron Valiant and Roaring Moon aren't based on the regular pokemon, they're based on *Mega* pokemon! Mega Gardevoir/Mega Gallade for Iron Valiant, and Mega Salamance for Roaring Moon!
Something else that I thought you'd like to know, I've seen a few fan names for the paradoxmons running around that sound a little less... clinical? But by far my favorite is for Brute Bonnet: UngaBoongus!

@@softsounds8453 I did mean design-wise, they were based on the megas, but a theory I saw recently suggests that Mega evolution taps into a Pokemon's latent DNA, reverting them into something resembling their prehistoric versions. If past-paradox Pokemon *are* actually ancient versions of Pokemon and not something else, this would help explain why Roaring Moon looks the way it does. And with Iron Valiant, if it truly is pulled from the future, who knows.
Honestly, the Future Paradoxes throw so many wrenches into so many theories. Like, Sada/Turo created the time machine within the last 15-ish years, so how could there be an Iron Treads for Heath to write about in the violet book? Unless there's *another* time machine, or three initial experiments were sending the future mons too far back.

My theory is that mega evolving Salamence and Gardevior/Gallade awakens some kind of primal power deep inside them. Kinda like Primal Reversion. Even Hisuian Voltorb looked more like the ancient balls they used

  • @TornaitSuperBird
    @TornaitSuperBird ปีที่แล้ว +294

Iron Valiant is based on both of their Megas.
The faulds on the "coat" are from Mega Gardevoir's ball gown (though they don't go around the waist entirely as an allusion to Mega Gallade's cape), as are the pointed elbows reminescent of of Mega Gardevoir's "evening gloves", as well as the majority of the general head shape, being closer to Gardevoir's head shape than Gallade's.
Mega Gallade is represented in the crest, the torso (doesn't have the split chest spike like Mega Gardevoir) the legs, and the red blades on the forearms.
There might even be a slight bit of Kirlia with the inclusion of "pigtails" on the sides of the head, which help to add some visual interest to a space that's already dominated by the crest.
This is one reason why they and Roaring Moon are considered counterparts even amongst the rest of the Paradoxes; Roaring Moon is based on another Mega Pokémon, being Mega Salamence.

There's a fun theory that Paradox Pokemon aren't from the past or future, that the "time machine" is actually a "creation machine". Because every Parodox Pokemon dex entry has some mention to magazines or conspiracy theories, with the fantastical powers of terra crystals the machine can create Pokemon out of thing air.

    • @itsturniptime3699
      @itsturniptime3699 ปีที่แล้ว +165

It also would explain why so many Paradox Pokémon look similar. If the Machine took ideas from a couple of individuals or even just one individual, their judgement of what a past or future Pokémon could be clouded and singular. Great Tusk appears to have fur like it was trying to become a mammoth but gained more robust armour plating, spikes, and a carnivorous mouth like a dinosaur. Same as Sandy Shocks, Flutter Mane, Slither Wing, And Brute Bonnet. All Pokémon that should be unrelated yet all share weirdly similar dinosaur design conventions. Unlike Scarlet’s Paradoxes, all of the fossil Pokémon are designed in a very similar way to modern Pokémon, and draw heavily from real world lore. Hell, the evolution of birds went almost identically in the Pokémon universe as it did irl. The fact that 25 years of prehistoric Pokémon did in fact follow the customs you mentioned the paradoxes as having ignored really puts their validity into question, don’t you think?

I think GF missed out on an amazing direction for the design of the future paradoxes though: speculative evolution. Imagine paradox pokemon based on how a Pokemon would evolve in an alternate future where an evil team's plan succeeds. For example, a Water/Fire Paradox Torkoal based on hydrothermal vents from a future where Kyogre floods the world, or a Paradox Beartic from a future where Kyurem freezes the Unova region and brings about another ice age.

    My most wanted Paradox Pokémon:
    3) Giant Buzzer: inspired by the fact that higher oxygen levels in the past allowed for insects to grow to larger sizes, Giant Buzzer appears like a fuzzier Cutiefly, except from proboscis to end it is about 4'6" long. Nothing else feels more abnormal than seeing the normally adorable Cutiefly being so unnervingly large.
    2) Iron Container: partially inspired by Owen Woodfin's Cosmet line, a recent Mazah region fan contest winner. With Reuniclus being the last organism with living cells, scientists placed the nucleus of Reuniclus in a cryo-freezing chamber to preserve it's body. However, this Pokémon's psychic abilities allow it to float, as well as manipulate detached, metallic arms in order to escape the scientists that froze it and roam the earth.
    1) Coalesced Time:
A legendary Pokémon (probably Hoopa, Celebi, Or Dialga/Palkia) tampering with the power of time, this creature's cells are incredibly unstable. It's body appears to be divided precisely in half, with one half looking feral and powerful, and the other half comprised of cybernetic enhancements to improve its physical prowess. This Pokémon lives in both the past AND future

Thank you for putting how I like the future Paradoxes into words. If you want to design a paradox of a Pokémon of your own, imagine how it moves or how it operates.
For example, Iron Leaf (the most recent Paradox) Looks like a Virizion clad in armor. But, in combat, you can see he has swords sticking out of him, like he was a General Grievous parody. Another example is Iron Bundle, basic Delibird clone with metal on the outside, which moves by water propelled skiing.
Even some of the past Paradoxes have movement or flow which wouldn’t be the first thing that came to mind.
We all were in awe of Sandy Shocks, especially after it moved, but, for a subtle example, I saw Flutter Mane’s art/sprite and thought “Why would anyone mistake this for a Pterosaur?” When I saw it in game, that baby had a wingspan and feathers, something that would most certainly look avian from afar.
Movement says a lot about an image. Unless you can see that thing in action, the design is the only thing you can go off of. When in motion, it comes to life and can be fully appreciated, especially things like Pokémon.

A few things that I wanna talked about when it comes to paradox Pokémon :
1- The theory that the time machine that brought in paradox Pokémon isn’t actually a time machine, but a creation machine that took the desires of Sada and/or Turo and made them into reality which is supported by the main thing that you focused on when discussing your area of expertise : design conventions.
It’s obvious that not all Pokémon ancestors are dinosaurs and it’s absolutely impossible for all of Pokémon’s descendants to become machines, but they instead follow a very cartoonish interpretation of the past and future, just as you stated. In other words they are likely merely the creations of the professor’s desire to see the Pokémon within the scarlet or violet book, never meant to exist in the first place, hence the “paradox” in paradox Pokémon.
Now I’m not saying that your garchomp design could not qualify as a paradox Pokémon since Sada might as well have thought “hmm this land shark like Pokémon probably descended from an actual shark”, but another route is to keep the basic body plan of garchomp and instead of adding spikes and fangs you take those away, creating a sleeker aquatic garchomp that looks like an ancient and viscous sea monster, maybe even using beta garchomp as reference.
2- I found it incredibly interesting that we only have Pokémon from the current Paldea Pokédex as the basis for paradox Pokémon and that there were no paradoxes based on Pokémon who can’t be found in the game despite the fact that Pokémon obviously would’ve migrated away from Paldea in the past and to it in the future as living beings tend to do in order to adapt. This is likely another point to the “creation machine” theory since the professor would only be thinking about native Pokémon since that’s what they’re exposed to the most, but I’m actually glad you took in outside Pokémon like granbull.
3- it’s curious that the Pokémon introduced in gen 9 also have no paradox forms with the sole exception of Cyclizar. It’s very likely that this was done to not detract from the popularity of new Pokémon and that Cyclizar was most likely made with Koraidon and Miraidon already in mind, but this lends itself to the possibility that most powerful gen 9 mons like Baxcaliber or Gholdingo might as well also have some freaky legendary paradox form potential hidden like a dinosaur made from possessed liquid gold that’s fire/ghost type or a true dragon type mecha godzilla that’s dragon/steel.
4- About your criticism concerning future paradox Pokémon. For as absolutely true as your issues with their designs may be I believe this was done on purpose to tell a story. Now paradox Pokémon don’t have conventional Pokémon names, but code names of sort that can almost be seen as scientific names created by the scholars of the expedition team that Heath, the writer of the scarlet and violet books, was a part of.
So why do all of the future paradox Pokémon start with “iron” despite the original Pokémon all being mostly unrelated ? It’s simple, the future paradox mons are all closely related, they’re all recreations meant to replicate what that Pokémon once was and were all theoretically assembled on the same supply line. For whatever reasons the people of the future wanted to remake these mons be it because of the modern species going extinct in the future or the result of a disaster like a dystopian future or some natural phenomena that changed Pokémon ecology worldwide.
To simplify it : Future paradox Pokémon aren’t meant to be a bunch of robotic descendants of modern Pokémon, but recreations of them.
    5- LEGENDARY. FUSION. PARADOXES.
This is just my personal desire, but seeing the legendary beast and swords of justice paradoxes which will probably come as DLC give me an idea.
I would love to see a paradox form of Kyurem that’s really busy and is just pure and unadulterated fan service, now hear me out :
A paradox Kyurem, but Kyurem itself does not change at all. Instead it is fused with paradox forms of both Reshiram and Zekrom.
Reshiram, which represents truth is a past paradox that shows that fake “truth” of what once was created by the time machine to satisfy Sada’s desires and Zekrom, which represents ideals is a future paradox that shows a fake “ideal” of what will be to satisfy Turo’s desires.
So you take the actual Kyurem, the past Reshiram and the future Zekrom and create a chaotic and busy design like the draconian final boss of a T-rated jrpg.
Call it “False Dragon” and make it pure dragon type, or dragon/fairy since fairy’s one of the few other types that could represent the concept of intangible energy in a way other than dragon, fire and electric.

Floral Tusk (Grass/Fighting): a Past form Meowscarada based on a Sabertooth Tiger. It's even quadrapedal for people who wanted a quadrapedal evolution for Sprigatito.
Dreadful Jaw (Fire/Dark): a Past form Skeledirge which is much eviler, exuding dark energy from its mouth and body. The bird is also turned into a cursed flame rather than a regular one and is more evil-looking.
Stomping Soul (Water/Ghost): a Past form Quaquaval that instead of Carnaval dances does Belly dances much more slowly to channel restless spirits through its moves. It's got more feathers as well as focusing more on heavy kicks rather than fluid steps.
Iron Bandit (Grass/Ghost): a Future form Meowscarada designed to be sleek and stealthy for stealing from enemies.
Iron Claws (Fire/Fighting): a Future form Skeledirge that is bipedal and much more bulky, designed to be a tank. It now slashes with heated up claws rather than biting.
Iron Dancer (Water/Dark): a Future form Quaquaval that uses hypnotic dances to control other Pokemon. Its body moves almost fluid-like.

Unfortunately... that isn't the actual origin of Iron Valiant, NONE of the information in the pokedex for the Paradox Pokémon can be trusted as factual, unless you mean to tell me that Scream Tail being from 1 billion years ago is accurate... if that were true, it would literally pre-date animal life on earth by over 300 million years at the least.
The truth is that nobody has any clue what the Paradoxes are, and any information on them are from one of these two places: The Scarlet/Violet Book written by Heath and commonly thought in modern Paldea to have no basis in fact, and various paranormal magazines such as Occulture... and that second source of info is literally just rumors, hearsay and presumably fictional stories that vaguely resemble the Paradox Pokémon.
In other words, Paradox Pokémon are Cryptids with no actual proof they exist other than the fact that they come from a Machine in Area Zero, and the ONLY time before the Machine was built that they were seen by anyone was by Heath and the other explorers who wrote the Scarlet/Violet book... which is strange, since the AI Professor claims that the Machine is the source of them, so how did they appear 200 years ago and leave absolutely no evidence they existed at all?
It's almost as if the Machine, which was built specifically to bring the creatures/objects from the Book to it, managed to find/create almost exact matches to them... despite the absolute lack of evidence any of them actually existed before the machine was built, which means it's entirely possible they never actually existed in history, instead being created beings based on the primitive/futuristic creatures/objects written about in the Scarlet/Violet book.
Perhaps Heath DID see the Paradoxes due to the "time" machine, but there is still no other evidence the Paradoxes existed in the crater or anywhere else until the machine got built, there were no sightings of them in any of the journals in the crater written before the machine got built, and no mentions of seeing them by anyone who entered the crater before it got built, plus the lack of fossilized remains is interesting to note

Iron Bundle’s “bundle” is a water canon attached to it. Iron Moth has its wings freely move around it while attacking, Iron hands has its hands connect to it’s body while it’s resting. Yes past Pokémon have cooler designs up front, but I feel like it’s under appreciated with how much effort and attention to detail went into the past paradox designs. As someone who studies echinoderms irl I love the paradox Starmie! Something you landed on that idk if you realize is that in making it look more like a satellite you also made it look a LOT like a pluteus, the larval form of sea stars and sea urchins. This is really interesting because neotenization (evolution by retention of baby/juvenile features into adulthood) is a not often talked about force of irl evolution despite being more common than many think (for example, if you've ever seen an adult dodo and a baby pigeon you'll notice they look very similar, and it's been proposed that bird skulls are neotenous to other dinosaurs in turn), AND it plays into Starmie's eldritch-ness when you know a bit about how echinoderm growth works; they start life as bilaterally symmetrical drifters (usually, a few species skip this stage), going where the current takes them. But the adults are radially symmetrical (usually they're specifically five-sided), so how do you stop having a left and right and start having sides I-V? Turns out you become something like a tumor on your own body, growing larger until you settle in the sand and burst free of the empty husk of your infant self. I like the idea of Iron Gazer drifting through the cosmos, searching for a place to land and become something entirely eldritch.

I would’ve loved it if more of the future paradoxes were combos of Pokémon in branched evolutions. A good option that follows the points you made on gender about Gallade and Gardevoir would be Huntail and Gorebyss. Also I started imagining a merged Hitmon pokemon with Hitmonchan’s fist, Hitmonlee’s legs and a rotating mid section with Hitmontop’s legs attached

I wanted to talk about the Paradox Pokemon design conventions you highlighted, give my thoughts on your designs, and share what I hope to see in the future!
I love the past Paradox Pokemon much more. I love how they're made to be WILD and FERAL versions of Pokemon! Prehistoric in an aesthetic sense! In addition to some of the features you mentioned, I think some equally important things to mention is bigger size (huge animals is a huge part of prehistoric creatures in an aesthetic sense), exagerated features (kinda ties into bigger size), and more vibrant colors.
I wanted to highlight the latter of the two. One of my favorite things was the use of color in the past Paradox Pokemon designs; both the same/similar colors as the original design as well as new vibrant colors! I wish some of your designs used more bold and vibrant color choices like many of the other Past Paradox Pokemon do. The expressions of the Pokemon also didn't feel Wild enough imo, but that might just be me idk. Maybe the expressions and faces of the Pokemon could be more feral?? (Like how many of the past Paradox Pokemon have more jagged mouths or fangs, different scalera colors, etc.).
(Also about Jagged Blade in particular, I think you could have done what was done with Flutter Mane and make them feel less like a first stage evolution. Flutter Mane was made bigger and had more exagerated features, much stronger silhouette befitting of a fully evolved Pokemon. The longer and more interesting sash on Jagged Blade is AWESOME, but it otherwise feels like an awkward middle ground between a 1st evolution Regional Variant and a Paradox Pokemon. I would have liked if you played with the proportions and silhouette even more, perhaps elongating the blade to feel like a full sword.)
I think you *NAILED* the problem I had with the future Paradox Pokemon! I LOVE how Iron Valiant inovated on the designs of the Pokemon it were based off of, and I (as a trans girl) was really happy you mentioned the idea of gender that the Pokemon brings up, as I don't see enough people talking about it and I thought it was really cool to see!!
Iron Gazer is an INCREDIBLE design!!!!! If all the future Paradox Pokemon followed a similar principle I think they could actually compete in coolness with the past Paradox Pokemon. LOVE IT. Iron Torch I'm not as much a fan of, but the base Pokemon didn't excactly give you much to work with tbf... LMAO-
I would love to see more wild past Paradox Pokemon designs, I literally cannot get enough of them the concept is so cool!!!!! (Scream Tail and Flutter Mane are some new favorites of mine, LOVE THEM). I also would LOVE to see more future Paradox Pokemon designs, perhaps redesigning some of the other future Paradox Pokemon with the new design conventions in mind. (Except Iron Valiant, I love them SO MUCH. Another new favorite for me). I'm also in love with the concept of this new take on the future Paradox Pokemon and would love to see more of them. Awesome video!!!

I wish the future Paradoxes didn't all go the simple route of "just make it a -toy- robot!" Would be much more interesting if we got living beings that adapted to a much more technological environment. Electric types that developed a plug-like tail and learned to hack systems, a random Pokémon that gained the Flying Type from a set of holographic/hardlight wings added to its regular bodyplan, sleeker and more "finished" versions of "manmade" looking Pokémon...
Porygon is right there! Perfect opportunity to give it a form that finally resembles an actual bird - somewhere on the scale of the Route1 Flying Types, but based on its original colors.

I 100% agree with you when it comes to the future paradox Pokémon; they're just robotic versions of the regular Pokémon and don't really add anything. I love your concept for Iron Gazer, and would have preferred that the future paradox Pokémon followed similar design conventions, however, I personally don't think that Iron Torch was enough of a "fusion" of both Volbeat and Illumise (I do love the design; it looks like Catbug from The Bravest Warriors). The two are nearly identical, but I think, at the very least, adding a bit of red would make it more clear that it's a fusion, kind of how Iron Valiant was clearly a Gardevoir/Gallade fusion. I'm not an artist, but that's my thought.

Iron Gazer is just so damn cool. I'm a huge robot guy, and while I love the future paradoxes quite a bit, I do wish that they did more with both the original design contents as well as the fact that they are machines, likely built to serve some sort of purpose, whether that be to help a job or just for murder. While Iron Torch does that very well, I just like the Starmie line more and I think the red center eye lends really well to a future design. It's like HAL in 2001 or AUTO in Wall-E, with that ominous glowing red eye. Just a very solid and interesting design.

I really love your concept for future paradox pokemon. They feel like machines whose design was inspired by pokemon, and then went on to become pokemon. Not only does that make a lot more sense (because why would anything evolve into a robot), it also mixes very well with actual pokemon lore, since we know man-made pokemon are a Thing (ex: Gollem)

I love and appreciate the way you articulated the nuances and conventions of the past paradox designs. I noticed them but I never really found a way to properly explain it in my head and to friends so I really grateful ^^ . Also I really liked your design for paradox garchomp, big blue land sausage I lobe.
Ok I initially thought it was only 2 paradoxes but I was pleasantly surprised by more paradoxes ^^
About the starmie paradox, I personally feel like the idea is cool, but there are some parts of the design that I find,,, make it slightly less friend shaped for some reason? and also the eye you gave it makes it harder to emote like other paradox forms. I find tht for me the charm in the future paradoxes I grew to love were how the screen display faces made i so that it could emote in such cute ways with simplistic ^ ^ eyes and the like, this gave me the impression that despite them looking or being man-made, they still have emotions and are still living beings, just not able to express as freely due to mechanical limitations, and can still be my friend. That being said I do wish they went more outlandish and explored more with the paradox designs (mainly hands, jugulus, thorns, and maybe moth). Im hesitant to add iron bundle because I love the fact it has a deadly pressure water blaster and a goofy neck that can extend but its probabl bias talking. I feel like there are definately designs that could take advantage of mechanical parts and technology to make cool designs and I hope we get more of that in the dlc if there is any.
(hopefully I made sense or got my point across hhhhh)

I'm happy about the Honedge one, it's the first time I've seen anyone else do a prevo paradox.
I actually came up with two paradox forms myself, for Gastly; Dark Oculus, Poison/Dark, and Iron Phantom, Ghost/Electric.
Dark Oculus resembles Dark Matter and the Eye Of Cthulhu from the Kirby series and Terraria respectively, including the eye to mouth transformation. Iron Phantom is based on standby mode, also called phantom load, and slightly resembles a Voltorb when inactive.

Just want to say that I loved Iron Gazer, and felt like that was a brilliant way of interpreting a future Paradox Pokemon into something that wasn't just "make it a glowy cyborg version." The mechanical iris aperture in place of the gem was inspired, and gives it a sort of GLaDOS vibe that I really enjoy, while the glowing panels create a sense both of some kind of solar sails and of star fields, which feels perfect for a Pokemon meant to be a satellite. Iron Torch is precious and adorable, and feels like some kind of Furby meets Tamagotchi thing that can maybe learn to speak from its human as it watches over them at night.
Also, I have to say that watching this and hearing your breakdown particularly of the past Paradox Pokemon has actually given me a bit more of an appreciation for the entire concept. While Iron Valiant was at least a little visually interesting to me, I honestly felt that the Paradox Pokemon on the whole were incredibly uninspired as a concept when I first saw them. Like, I very much didn't see the appeal, even as my fiance was delighted by them on his play-through, and happily went back to catch some to trade with me (as we always play opposite versions from one another). I'm usually not a person who enjoys the "take X, add spikes/horns/fangs, call it prehistoric version!" or "add LEDs/armor/cables, call it sci-fi version!" way of creating variations on a concept. It usually feels kinda flat and one-dimensional versus some of the regional variants, which felt far more inspired for me (for instance, I loved Galarian Ponyta/Rapidash, because I adored how it took the Fairy typing and ran with it). In your breakdown of the Brute Bonnet design, I was able to see a bit more of the degrees of artistic separation going on, making it more than just "spiky Amoongus."
That said, I really did love your interpretations far more. There's a much stronger sense of both the sort of feral, ancient, prehistoric feel in your past Paradox Pokemon, removing them from their base concepts just a little bit more in a way that appeals to my eye. I loved Grumble Brute, with its knuckle-walking stance and the absurdly huge fangs, and how Scalding Jaws had that sleeker design that hints at aspects of not only Garchomp, but also Sharpedo and even (as you mentioned) Cetitan. It feels at once like a link to its source material, but also like a whole new creature, which delights me in ways that the official Paradox Pokemon didn't. And Jagged Swings was just beautiful; I love the reinterpretation of the face on Honedge into the beaky, bird-like face you gave Jagged Swings, which makes it feel both ancient and like something from some vanished culture. There's a lot of character-ful feel to these designs, and overall I really love all of the concepts you've created here.
