    Your title describes the price of this car well INSANE! I have had several Dusters since I was in high school. I drag raced one, daily drove a couple and had a couple of 340 4-speed Dusters. Tbh whoever paid $160k for a Duster is just dumb. Those cars are no worth that kind of money. It is not a well handling, braking or even comfortable car. They were never designed to be anything but cheap transportation and to spend that kind of money for a car that doe nothing well is pretty ridiculous. At least a wing car was designed for high speeds and its origin is from NASCAR. That history and engineering is worth the money but to pay $160k for a cheap economy car, just plain dumb. And this is from a diehard Mopar fan.

    Thankyou for your insight. I've owned many American muscle cars and drove many of them when they a couple years years old. The current prices for these cars, especially the Mopars does not surprise me. The market is propelled by nostalgia and personal engagement. There will never be an era in automotive history that will match the expression in engineering combined with the high production numbers. Keep up the great work.

    Can't say I'm shocked at the Duster price. 340 Duster's have been high priced for what they are for a long time. Especially the black hood with the 340 call out.

  • @jessicagreene1773
    @jessicagreene1773 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    It's a nicely restored Duster which I saw in a Carlisle PA show. The bad thing is that it isn't a real V24 car, they added that option and also the driver's mirror was coded for a remote chrome and not the racing style it wears now. The rear leaf spring shackles are also on backwards, but I pick:)

      Haven’t sat down and compared but would think this would be higher than any Nova. Wildcard there is the Yenko versions which go for dumb money.

    • @clembob8004
      @clembob8004 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know about that. What are the "counterparts"? Nova maybe, but Mavericks aren't that hot in the market. Camaros and Mustangs would usually bring more money, but those are pony cars, not economy compacts which the Duster was classified as in their day.

      @MrWill73 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@clembob8004 I am a Mopar guy but like GM just as much. I own Fords too. Honestly, That going for that kind of money was a fluke. That’s not something that will happen anytime soon or again. Dusters can even be compared to Novas. Novas were far superior than Dusters. I have had both and there is no comparison. Nova is a much better quality car. They were available with a bunch of different engines. Novas handled better, had much better brakes and drive a lot better than any Duster. Novas are more comfortable. If you at both objectively and not as a fan of one or the other, All three generations of the Nova were much better cars than the Duster.

    • @clembob8004
      @clembob8004 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@rocketresto Since the Duster was produced from 70-76, it would be the Nova and Maverick, and all the GM clones of the Nova. And I guess the AMC Hornet. None of these (with exceptions like the Yenko Nova like you mentioned) would be more valuable in the classic car market than the Duster I don't think. Just my opinion.

    Hi Tom love your vlogs and have not made to your guys shop yet but was also wondering if you still here from Mike Volts haven’t seen hide or hair of him since he was here in Las Vegas back when they had Mopar at the Strip in the early 2000’s ? Just curious I use to hang out with him in my late teens early 20’s when I lived in Washington for 20 yrs . Every once in a while we use to go cruising when the cops were cool with us then and go swap meet shopping or go rummaging through junk yard when they had lots of crashed up Mopars Chevys and fords ! 😎👍🏻🇺🇸🦅

    Factory 340-360 Dusters will continue to rise in value. Just about every family had a Duster (think Slant 6) in the 70's and 80's. In 74 alone Chrysler sold 280,000 Dusters. The hot colors with a 340-360 and a 4-speed are incredible cars. Right size, right weight, right comfort level, heavy duty suspension etc,

    Must have been a whole lot of nostalgia and sentimental value for the buyer and others, to bid the Duster up that high. My parents helped me pay for a brand new '74 Duster 360, when I was 19 and going into second year university. Was my daily driver for the first four years, until I graduated. Since then it has always been garaged and not winter driven. 80k miles on it and won a survivor trophy at the last Mopar show I entered. When asked if it is for sale, I say "No, but you can buy it at my estate sale after I pass on". LOL

    People ask me if I'm going to put a 340 back in the '69 Swinger- nope, the original owner swapped in the '68 RR 383/727 powertrain back in about '78 and it got parked in '81 or '82. The 340 is long gone, they picked parts off it (radiator & bench seat are the big ones), and I will drive it- so it's getting further away from stock.

    I definitely would not say that Duster was restored by the top Mopar shop in the country.
    You would think they could at least use the correct washer bottle. Incorrect plug wires. Doubting that throttle return spring and would think the radiator cap is for earlier cars. Muscle Car of The Week with Kevin.
    Ryan at Auto Archeology
    And many many others so I added yiur channel in the mix.
    Great video.
    Recently purchased the 1:18 diecast of that Duster only one on ebay in years not cheap but it helped it was in Australia.
    Secondly I purchased when Mecum had Steve Juliano's inventory for auction purchased a few items but the one item I purchased & still find it hard I won was a genuine in the box NOS 1968 Roadrunner purple horn the only one throughout the auction.
    Yep paid a small fortune but tge freight to Australia was hideous absolute rip off & nothing you can do about it.
    Fitted into my Aussie A Body.
    1970 VG Valiant 770 Hemi Hardtop with a 245 cubic inch matching number Hemi 6 cylinder.
    I am thrid owner.
    Yes I beep beep away in my VG regularly.
    Been following Mecum for years & since Covid I believe prices have fallen.
    Kissimeme always always gets top money then Indy throughout the year but if you look at the other auction prices are actually lower.
    Look at prices at LA, Portland, Houston alot of Bid Goes On.
    I believe the people wanting these cars is slowly dwindling over the years hard to find a 20 or 30 year old guy wanting these 60's muscle cars they just didn't grow up with them.
    Same here in Australia prices have come back Aussie Chargers & Pacers & way overpriced
    1971 Ford Falcon XY GT HO Phase 3 a 4 door sedan muscle car fetching over a million dollars.
    Hot & summer here today 28 degree.
    A mate of mine has a 1 owner from New Mexico
    1968 Pontiac Bonneville 428 HO numbers matching 2 door Hardtop.
    I told him to send it back to the States & sell it there get better money totally unappreciated here in Australia not a Aussie Car what do you think Tom.

      I'm really curious about the floral top market... I've got a 69 Dart Custom that's a floral car, and am starting the resto in earnest soon. Thing is- I'm a big block b-body guy. I bought the car to build a street brawler, and didn't discover what it was til later. So honestly, I'm building the car to sell, because frankly, I don't want it, at least not in restored form...😂

    Darts dusters demons scamps all the "A"bodies use to be affordable not now. So the guy that has a rotted out duster in his back yard then sees the same type of car on Barrett Jackson for 160 that dummy thinks his rotted out one is worth the same. Theses car auctions are the worst thing that has happened and is ruining the hobby a 14-17 year old's kids can't afford these cars anymore this is killing the car hobby period!

    Mecum & BJ are not the place to go looking for a value. Most of the buyer's probably never lift a finger to perform any work on them, and are superficial.

      You can find deals at auctions but you have to be on top of it.

    I don't believe that Duster itself is all that special ? I don't care how ell restored it is.
    I believe the valuation realized.... is at least as much to do with very simply some fella with too much Money securing an 'asset'... any asset.... with Cash that unfortunately is devaluating.
