    Man even back in the early 70’s when there were cool cars all over the place, this would have still stood out with that dark blue/purple paint and all the white trim…jaw dropper. I had that rapid transit ad tacked to my wall back when these were new. Even then I thought the GT was cool. Bucket list car for me.

    Took my driver's test in a big ol' Fury...think it was a '71 or '72, can't remember, was my Father's car. Was a 4-door, same color green as that 2-door on the lift in the video, with a 383. I do remember that sitting in the driver's seat, I could not reach the passenger door, lol. My large family drove that beast into the ground because you could easily fit 4 in the back and 3 in the front. I went off to the service and once when I came home, the Fury was gone. My brother told me they drove it to the junkyard, but it wouldn't go over 30mph on the way. Fond memories.

Someone that can weld in the patch panels and do a good job. I don't want to send it off to a shop where it's going to sit in the back for 10 to 20 years. If anyone in the greater Seattle area is really good at patch panels, hit me up . I have two or three welders and a plasma cutter, some torches. And a paint booth.

    There was a 71 Sport Fury GT in really good condition at the Belvidere IL Mopar show last year that was one of my favorite cars there that year. It was sort of a gunmetal gray color but had a hint of green, so not the GA4 color found on 71 E bodies.
    Magnum restored a 70 GT a while back, probably one of the tougher builds they’ve tackled due to hard it is to find parts for them!

    • @rocketresto

    I had a 70 two door with a vinyl top. I don't remember specific package it was. It had a 383 with a two barrel "believe it or not" factory. Smooth running comfortable car and got great mileage for a large car when I kept my foot out of it. Fury's of that era had great heaters! We lived close to Lake Michigan and winters were frigid.

    I remember this car! It was in the early '80s after I left the Navy. I first saw it in a used car lot on the east side of Lake City Way in Seattle. I had just recently fallen in love with Mopars after seeing a '71 Charger and a beautiful '72 yellow Challenger in a car lot about a block away from where the Fury sat. I was already noticing a certain menacing look to Mopars and I instantly recognized them. I even noticed that a '64 Chrysler was part of that family. Anyway, I was looking for a Mopar to buy and saw this monster in the back of their lot. I loved everything about it. Purple, crazy stripes, white vinyl top and interior. I seem to remember that 440 was written on the hood, since otherwise I'm not sure how I would have known.
    Price? $850.00!!!!!
    Back then it was in much better condition, with a beautiful interior and a nice vinyl roof, but it was by no means perfect. I should have bought it, but when the guy at the lot said it was rare and only 375 were made that year -- yes, they knew that in '83 -- I'll confess that I was a little intimidated. I thought it was maybe too nice a car for me. I was also intimidated by its size, so I ended up buying a '71 Plymouth Scamp, 318 2-barrel, which turned out to be a great stoplight racer against the weak opposition of the '80s, except for the 350 Novas that were thick on the ground.
    Years later I saw the beautiful purple GT again on the roof of a building on the southeast corner of 130th and Aurora. I actually saw it from below while driving, then went to look at it. It looked a bit rougher than before, but still magnificent. In what might be a false memory, some guy came along and said he was working on it. One way or another I had a look under the hood and saw that the engine was partly disassembled. Maybe that was when the dual-quads ended up on it, because IIRC, it was a stock 440 4-barrel when I first laid eyes on it.
    Please do a video when this one-of-a-klnd Mopar is finished. I'd be so psyched for that!!!! Good luck, Selena! :) And keep us up to date on your Sport Fury GT as well. I really adore these cars although I probably will never own one, after letting the purple monster slip out of my fingers . . .

    Along the lines of "strippy" cars, a friend of mine used to own a '68 Charger R/T. Charger Red, black top, black guts. 440 4 speed. It was a drum brake, stripe delete, steel wheel car! No Power Steering, 2-speed wipers, NO Tach, NO console, No buddy seat.... the only "extra cost" option it had was an AM/8-track. It was an ordered car out of Cranbrook, BC.

    The wheels on the SFGT may be an option. I had a '71 - it was 3 years old and had been a company car for 3M (who made the stripe kits) and it was not modified. The wheels were much like these only without the rectangular cutouts. Not at all like the ones you've got but I have seen other '71 GT's with the ones you show, mine had the narrower trim rings. I was able to buy a 2nd set some years ago.

    I haven't seen the Fury in nearly forty years; Brad and my sister were together for about five years in the mid-late 80s. You'll notice how wide the rear rims are; Brad had them widened. The LTD convert was in the yard in Mountlake Terrace, too. It's sad to see the Fury in that state of decay, but I'm glad to see it still around. They took a trip to Montana one time in the LTD to see the sights, get her out on the long stretches of road, and "let her breathe." This is the first that I have heard of Brad's passing, and I am saddened to hear of it; Brad and I got along really well; he was just a month older than I. Brad had a funny nickname, I wish I could share it, but this isn't the proper time.

    I had those finned FACE drum brakes (11 inch of course) on both a 68 300 and a 69 Newport. The face of the drum makes it impossible to mount most wheels, aftermarket or factory. The only exceptions are 1. The wheels that came from the factory. 2. C body Road wheels (little slot type) 3. B Body Rally wheels (hole type) with either a small spacer ( not recommended) or milling down the tips of the fins.
    The tape player usually came with the AM/FM Stereo but, as you showed, could be ordered with the AM ( I have never seen an AM with the pig tail). Sometimes people think their pigtail type stereo radios are broken, but the cap for the pig tail, which is needed to operate if the tape player/recorder is missing, is missing from the end. There are two jumpers on the cap. You cna rig something up with a female Din connector.
    I have a 71 Sport Fury but it is a 4 door ht and a 360. But 71 is a good year for 360s. I want to try ot get an aftermarket Challenger tip for it. It needs a trunk.
    The problem with the Sport Fury GT is that they were nearly almost all bought up north, then driven as dailies year round. They went to the junkyard in the 70's and 80s with no notice . The few that are left are totally rusted.

    • @rocketresto
      @rocketresto  หลายเดือนก่อน

    I am from coastal Maine so I see my share of rust and rot. Living on the coast we use salt on our roads in the winter but you also have the salt in the air from the ocean...It's a death sentence for sheet metal and frames...I have seen some rust buckets in Washington but I have also seen some really nice old cars come from that area..it seems to be a mixed bag

    • @rocketresto
      @rocketresto  หลายเดือนก่อน

      What gets cars around here is usually pine needles from the evergreen trees. They get inside the window trim and are a little acidic so they rust out the window channels. Once they go them it’s floors gone, bottoms of the fenders, trunk pan etc. They rust top down here. Saying that we really have a pretty good environment for old cars, we never salted roads here. Unless a car comes from the coast they are usually pretty nice.

    from the web: The Lancia Scorpion is a two-door, two-seat, mid-engine, rear-drive sports car that was originally conceived in the early 1970s as a slightly larger, upscale version of the 1974 Fiat X1/9. In fact, the Scorpion prototype was codenamed X1/20 under Fiat development, and much of the X1/9's MacPherson strut suspension design was shared with the X1/20.

    The '71 hideaway headlights grille was better because the '70 had horizontal lines all across it and the ones on the headlight covers never really lined up with the center part of the grille.
