2020 Ford Explorer - Review & Road Test

  • As long as it isn't painted black and white with lights and sirens flashing on top of it in your rearview mirror, the sixth-generation Ford Explorer is a welcome and familiar sight. There's all kinds of new to talk about from the blue oval, and KBB.com's Lyn Woodward does a lot of that in a blue checked shirt.

    Just picked up a XLT for my wife with upgraded package and 20inch rim package as well. I think this is the sweet spot for the Explorer at $40k you get just enough and nothing you don't need at a very affordable price. Just came back from a small road trip and all I can say is I am very impressed. did great on gas mileage and very quite and comfortable. I had no problem cruising at 85mph the whole way. I would defiantly recommend this for a family hauler.

      @@shaesham It's certainly true that well equipped 3 row crossovers typically represent a significant price bump compared to their compact brethren. But having said so, the MSRP of mainstream well optioned crossovers seldom exceed $50K. Ford's MSRP for top trim Explorers explodes that figure to near or over $60,000 and makes a moderately optioned mid-trim Lincoln Aviator Reserve with an MSRP of about $65,000 a tempting alternative.

    Ford Explorer won me over with the room in the driver and passenger front seat. I have been looking for the most comfortable driver's seat I could find. It was my number 1 priority. We chose the cloth seats because they were more comfortable than the leather. The driver seat also adjusts positions very well. It was and still is hard to find a roomy and comfortable driver seat even in big SUV's. We sat in many models and found the Explorer driver seat the best by far. Thank you Ford engineers on this one.

      There’s really no need to drive below the speed limit when you see a cop car on the highway. Obviously don’t go 100 mph on a 65, but if you go 65-80, cops don’t give a fk. I regularly drive 10-15 mph above speed limit on the highway passing cops sitting in the bush and have never been pulled over. As long as you are driving safely, you will be fine. It’s the people driving 100 mph, zipping in and out of lanes without turn signals, tailgating, etc that get pulled over.

    Bought a 2020 Limited this past January. Traded 17 Explorer Sport. 20 was not what the 17 was and I am talking attention to detail. 20 was sloppy as dash trim didn’t not fit. Had 8 inch screen and every time I went to the dealer they would ask if backup camera or screen has any issues. When I said no they would say well you will. Because work furnishes me with a vehicle I put 5500 miles on it since January. Traded it this past weekend for a new 2020 Chevy Silverado and I have been a Ford guy for many years. I liked the Explorer didn’t love it. I love the Silverado and told my wife I have a vehicle that is ‘fun to drive’ again. My wife traded her 17 Limited for a 2020 Hyundai Palisade in July because she did not like the way new Explorer drove actually hates mine and the attention to detail in the Palisade is amazing and cost way less for more features

    • @dave3682
      @dave3682 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The police interceptor version of the Explorer doesn't have roof rails (because they'd block the light bar). So if you see an explorer with roof rails, it's civilian. If you see an explorer with a completely flat roof, 95% chance its an undercover cop, otherwise its and explorer that used to be a cop car but isn't anymore. That's how you can tell them apart. :)

    • @edwink1467
      @edwink1467 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s pretty easy to tell. Even if they don’t have exterior light bars (meaning they are “undercover”), police’s explorers have push bar in the front, spotlight on the driver’s side, small black steel wheels, and interior light bars visible on the top of the rear window. If you catch an Explorer with some or all of these features, it’s 95% a cop.

    Why Ford did not use the ZF8HP automatic transmission?
    It's the world's best automatic transmission.

    Ford 3.3L V6 naturally aspirated paired with ZF8HP, this will be a reliable powertrain because of no junk turbo engine or complicated hybrid system.

      ganthc if my memory serves there was some design similarities with Chevy’s 9-speed and Ford’s 8-speed transverse transmissions. But those are separate from the longitudinal 10-speed architectures seen here which were directly codeveloped.
