  • From originator, to family staple, through controversies, and various frame on/frame off designs, the Ford Explorer remains the best-selling American SUV of all time. But the 2020 Explorer arrives with some of the biggest changes in quite a while, returning to a classic rear-wheel-drive layout, while retaining its unibody form. So, let’s find out if that makes for a step forward, backwards, or sideways, for the all-new Explorer.

      Amen! I'm with you all the way on that note. I get disgusted every time I see another cute Ute come out and it's all ppl want nowadays. I feel like a rebel when I'm blowing past them in my Hemi Charger as it's one of the most disrespectful cars out there and I'd happily buy another. Ford has gained some of my respect back with this one (I used to own a Marauder so I know Ford made great product for performance folks). Going back to RWD was a bold move and I know many Police Departments are going to Love these cuz the current ones suck! Most agencies train officers on RWD in the academy (plenty of CVs left and Chargers) and FWD has no business in that industry. There was no valid reason to make the Explorer FWD in the first place so I'm glad they fixed this mistake. Too bad the Taurus never got this layout. Hopefully ppl will shift back to cars again but this is one of the only crossovers I'd ever buy other than the Durango RT or SRT or Ford's own Aviator (Masterpiece)

    • @LSp8
      @LSp8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @coffeeinthemorning ain't shit wrong with me, I have opinions and I could truly care less if ppl want that cute Ute shit but there's still ppl that like cars too and there's no point in eliminating all of them. I own a full size true BOF SUV myself and will buy a newer one too. I actually congratulated Ford for fixing the Explorer and bringing the Aviator back on its awesome new chassis too. Ford stepped out of the box and made a CUV that I and many car ppl would actually buy.

    • @LSp8
      @LSp8 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @coffeeinthemorning Chevy and Ford, they just gave up on cars except for the Mustang and the new mid-engine Corvette (not even an option for a manual anymore). I'm a crabby old bastard that'll be driving old tech as long as I can. Everyone can keep that new shit, I seem to have struck a nerve lol

    • @radicalcrash
      @radicalcrash 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's really gonna suck when the snow comes, though. And most people opt for 2WD to save money, so getting rear-wheel from the Explorer is gonna suck triple if they live in four-season climates. Better than a RWD sedan would be, sure, but still... Crossovers aren't usually about fun... though I can't help feeling like some people overblow that criticism... they're about better practicality. The fact that it feels better to ride high up, and have more road presence just happens to be a perk that comes with all the extra space, and natural capability. It's still the space and capability people are after.

      In 1994, a top-of-the-line Explorer Limited 4WD had an MSRP of $28,910. Adjust for inflation, that's about $61,241 in today's money. The 2020 top-of-the-line Explorer Platinum has an MSRP of $59,345. Seems like a bargain to me considering how much more safety, technology, and performance you're getting.

      @ragingbull94mtx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I think the real issue here is not the price of cars "these days". It's the fact that wages (for most people) haven't kept pace with the rest of the economy. Good God, Indeed!™

    Add in the lazy attempt to glue an iPad to the dash and the goofy looking dial shifter...not impressed
    Hopefully the mid cycle refresh will at least fix the front and back and make it look at least a little cohesive and handsome
    As it sits now it looks pretty bad

    Well if the 10 speed transmission is anything like the one in the F150 it's junk. Have three new F150s where I work and they all clunk and bang between gears and when you let up on the gas. Dealer says it normal because it's learning based of how you drive. Yeah right. Oh and one has already had the engine replaced under warranty. Top end went bad after 4000 miles, it was ticking like crazy. Ford just put a whole new engine in since the dealer won't just do a top end replacement.

      Yes. With ford offering no sedans, the escape, edge and explorer are the new focus, fusion and Taurus. These SUVs ie the “new sedans” should be priced much less than the current asking price or risk going bankrupt again. Also I see no reason to buy new anymore since a 2 to 3 year old vehicle still has lots of life left and costs much less than a brand new one and I can also get an extended warranty for it.

And I'm glad they didn't go with some radical looking exterior and instead kept everything clean. But most people bitching are probably going to go with the way worse built Chevy Traverse anyway, and all of its shit build quality.
