Happy birthday Terry!!! Thanks for bringing your brand of sunshine and energy to the platform. This world is a better place because you’re in it!
Thank you for this video. Your insights are fresh and practical. Sometimes it hits me - we buy all these expensive cameras, but we still do a ton of work in post to achieve a look that is possible to achieve with a cheaper camera.
Hey Terry I watched the whole video. You got me thinking about getting a zv for my second cam. I had my fx3 since the day it was born. My fx3 proven to me that it can endure all my TH-cam videos for fishing and hunting adventures. It is a power horse and survived through hot, cold, rainy weather, mud, dust, and bugs attack. It is a true heavy duty TANK for my purposes. Thanks for sharing your perspective. God bless and have a good day :)
🎉Happy Birthday Terry🎉!
The FX3 is a badass camera but my A7iv does everything I could possibly ask for. But I agree with you 💯. Why keep an expensive camera around and risk damage to it in the long run if a cheaper cam that does everything you need is available. It totally makes sense to me.
I made a similar change recently that I'm dropping a video about this week. People tend to create such personal attachments to their chosen gear, but at the end of the day, every use case is unique. I'm glad you found a version that works for you and also allows you to fund another passion you have!
This makes me feel better about my ZV-E1 purchase haha, I’ve overheated it once, and switched out the battery on the spot and was good for the rest of my shoot, it was a 2 hour long shoot, I don’t find overheating to be an issue either!
You go for it dude!!
I love that you stressed "for MY use case". So many times on forums I'll ask a simple question and get a few people that want to change my mind about the camera and lenses I use.
I chose the camera I have and the camera I'm getting based on what I film, what my clients need and what makes me the most money.
You do YOU brother!!
Happy Birthday Terry! Always enjoy when a video from you pops up...
Happy BDay Terry. Good you make moves to shoot with what you are happy with. The ZVE1 is great. Compact and powerful
I wonder, would you get an FX3 II if it meets your expectations in the video you did previously ?
I love how u are always so real! I will always watch your stuff!
Happy birthday dude! New to the channel, new to Sony, and I enjoy your content. Cameras are just tools, so get what is best for you at any given time. If we hold on to tech for too long it loses its value.
I shoot on the a7SIII and a1 and there's just no new features that are on any of the current cameras that would pull me off of either. That being said, the ONE thing I resonate with is I don't like to take my cameras out to certain locations but that's just a society thing these days. You've gotta be aware of where you shoot and your surroundings!
You get the 2 best cameras for the videos on the market before the cine camera, so its normal you don’t want to change lol ^^
I thought the same, I got the zv-e1 as a backup thinking id almost never use it. Now it's my main. Until you enjoy the basically perfect autofocus that snaps onto any subject immediately, you probably wouldn't understand
Man, this is a great idea. I just started looking at maybe getting into full frame. I've been using 3 a6600's for 3 years now thinking I'd get the a7siii one day. I recently started eyeballing the fx3 but bought the FX30 instead just to get use to color grading and the workflow with those better codecs. And I figured the fx30 would be the perfect match to the fx3. Now you have me considering the zve1... I do love the fan and dual card slots but the fx30 has those. And I've never needed dual cards slots, but always thought it would be great to have. The fan though, I've had over heating problems quite a few times. But, usually it's just with one camera even when I'm doing multi-camera shooting. This is a tough call... it sounds like the zve1 has some nice new features though.
Happy birthday! Love your videos, keep up the good work!
I've had the ZV-E1 for a few months now..., never had an FX3.., but the ZV-E1 has been great for me! plenty of long takes out in the heat too ( summer time by the beach) 80+ degrees F.., and its been a joy to use.., no overheating or warnings so far.. It might not be setup for the most professional features.., but its perfect for quick n dirty type shooting... i bought a white one too haha,, i was that paranoid about the overheating issue prior to receiving it
have you shot FHD or 4k on the beach?
Congrats to your BD & thanks for the vid°
Love your personality and breakdown here. I have an FX3 but use it for lots of corporate shoots. But I'm thinking of selling my extra A7III and leveling up with the ZV-E1.
Paul and I shot 3 days straight in 98 degree (115 heat index) in Orlando with the ZV-E1 in 24fps and a bunch in 120fps and not once did it overheat. Both of us definitely overheated and had to run into AC but the camera stayed strong
happy bday terry, i love my zve1 so much, fantastic image quality and autofocus is damn beast
I love my a7siii, always will. I’m not selling it but my zv-e1 has largely replaced it for my daily camera. Given your circumstances your choice makes sense to me.
Happy Birthday Terry!!! I feel you in this video. I sold my A7siii for the ZV-E1. My main reason is that I wanted a smaller body with the same specs of my A7siii. And with MY use case (MY! MY! MY! 😂) the ZV-E1 is perfect. I haven’t even experienced any overheating at 4k 10-bit recording in the Philippine heat 👍
How do you manage humidity when coming from outside heat and humid environment to inside without problems of condensation inside the camera or lens?
Thanks
I am still shooting V-Log L with GH5 which has the cine features such as false color LUT, waveform monitor, and vector scope. To shoot S-Log with Sony FX3, I have to use an external monitor on a rig; it is no longer compact even for run-and-gun style.
Happy Birthday, Terry! Thanks for always providing us good content!
Happy Birthdya Bro! Got me thinking the a7c2/R is going to be a beast... ;)
Happy birthday big T🙌🏽🎉💫. Many happy returns.
I am doing the exact same thing. Always picking up the ZVE1. Rarely have a use case now that I need the FX3
Happy birthday. Please let us know what is that wireless mic you're using. I'd love to switch from my big Shure to something that sounds almost the same but it's wireless.
Cant wait to pick up my ZV-E1. I think its going to be a great compliment to my A7IV
I just stumbled upon your channel today and instally hit the SUB.
Love the quality and energy of your content. keep it up.
Looking forward for more great videos. 👊👊👊
and Happy Birthday Bro!
Happy Birthday! I did the exact same thing a few months ago. The value is still high on the FX3, but as people realize the power of the (missing) AI chip, that will change.
Just gotta pick what you feel works for you. I shoot on an FX3 for local production companies and still find myself filming with my GH4 more often than my Sony.
You’re golden with just about anything these days. Keep inspiring G!
Same here! I only use my black magic on bigger productions! I really use my Gh4 most of the time and I freaking love it
love to see more love for the GH4! still rocking one too
Still using gh4 and gh5 too, love them both
What general do you guys use for GH4 and does everyone shoot in V-Log/Cinelike V? Just bought an FX30 after using a GH4 for a bit
@@Subala_Villa I still shoot music videos with the gh4. I shoot standard profile but I drop sharpness saturation and contrast to -5. I find I get better flexibility in post than when I use cinelike
Happy birthday Terry, I don't own a Sony of any sort, but I sure would love to get my hands on one, I shoot lumix gh5s and I would love to explore other brands as to decide which gears works the best for me ❤, Wishing you a long life Jiggy
Happy birthday mate and enjoy a lot !!! That’s all I can tell you, cause you buy what you really need.
See ya !!! 💪
Right decision terry , for longer interviews you have panasonic and A7 IV , and 4k 120 needs for short bursts ZVE1 is good enough
I can respect your outlook. For me, I need my FX3 as it does bring a certain amount of "respect" when being hired by people plus I am never sure what I need to shoot
Ngl i was surprised that you're replacing the fx3 with the zv e1. But with all the pointers of what features you're not using, makes me think that I should reconsider which camera should I keep and which camera should I replace. It made me think that even if I do purchase the camera, will I be using all of their features?
Happy birthday mate! :) Looking forward to hearing the story...
I can commend you for being honest with YOURSELF! Most people wouldn’t do what you did, because people believe gear makes them relevant. Not to say it has no importance, but it’s nice to see creators being honest with themselves. I have an FX3 and I said to myself if anything happens I’m grabbing the ZV-E1. I do think you’re crazy, lol … but definitely not a dumb or stupid decision and your logic makes sense not that it should matter to anyone BUT YOU! Happy born day and ride safe on your future bike.
Happy B-Day!🎉🎊🕺
Nice move, in my opinion! Can’t wait to see the sport bike you get!
Happy birthday Terry!
I got on the ZV-E1 wagon as well so nothing wrong with that.
If you do find that you need to shoot long form or need that comfort to have a margin of safety, Tilta and Ulanzi came out with active cooling fans that gets you about double the recording times, but this depends if you use the high setting mode and which shooting modes and frame rates you’re on.
I prefer the Tilta as I had it for awhile on the Canon R5. Tilta makes you had a cage (I use the half cage as it wraps along the full bottom so my pinky has a place to sit and it’s lighter than the full cage and has 1/4” mounts on the bottom) but if you but the 1/4” mounting adapter for the R5, you can use the fan without Tilta’s cages. This works better for me when I want to go light and flip the LCD screen out or back in with the fan on top of the LCD when closed. Can’t do that with Ulanzi and it has a stronger cooling output. Downside is you need to power it externally which I recommend using Power Junkie v2 to keep the footprint small. Again this setup is only for long form as needed.
I’ve been using the ZVE1 now for videos and photos. I love it
ZV-E1 is a great camera! I had the FX3 on my list and even FX30 and went with the ZV-E1 due to price point. Also have not had it overheat and do not shoot video jobs professionally.
Happy Birthday Terry! Keep doing what ya do!
Happy Birthday man! Keep bringing that amazing content!
Wait did I hear that right?!? The fx3 for the Sony zv e1??! Although I might disagree, the best camera is the one that we have in our hand and I’m sure with your talent and creative abilities you’ll still be able to crank out amazing content bro! God bless and Happy Birthday!
Well - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! As to why you made the move, I cannot see it. But if you feel that is what "you need" then God Bless you !!!! I hope it will serve you well, Terry. Cheers, mate!!!
FX3 and a7siii never overheat… any chance if overheat is unacceptable.
How’s the overheat on the ZV?
You made me SO FREAKIN HAPPY when you said ZV-E1, cause between those two cameras I made the EXACT same decision and haven’t regretted it since. You also having the same DJI mic setup as I do was just icing on the cake. Legit can’t wait to create more stuff now 😭
I was gonna say you gonna get the Lumix then i remembered that you already got one. Heard good things on the ZVE1. Happy birthday man!
The ZV-E1's internal mic is insane. I was so surprised because it's way better than the ZV-E10's internal mic, but kinda looks the same. Speakers are also surprisingly good.
Happy birthday Terry! I like you films, so I'm waiting your new one.😊
Happy birthday Terry. It's a free world, each to their own. I have often regretted selling stuff (well maybe 5-10% of stuff, mostly no regrets). But it can usually be bought back again (occasionally for less than I sold it for, but usually more). If ever needed. Or for sentimental reasons.
Anyway, many of us (in the developed world) probably have too much stuff. It's cathartic to 'slim down' and streamline kit, removing old stuff that's past it's use to you.
First off Happy Belated Birthday. You got the Storm Shadow edition. looks nice. I say get and use what works for you. That is why they exist so many options.
It makes sense. The FX3 is overkill for most people and the ZV-E1 is just perfect for setups like yours. No need to break the bank on this one. Happy birthday bro 👊🏽.
Talk to me about the dual card slots!!! If I’m shooting a wedding highlight - I want to know I can have a backup! What cards do you recommend then? I’ve never had a card fail me before (I am a photographer not videographer) … but I’d be terrified rocking the 1 slot
happy birthday! whatever gear does the work is the best gear!
Im sad to see a black ZV-E1 tbh lol I liked the white one. What was your thoughts on that, I noticed the black has a more rubbery grip to it and looks less like a toy lol but otherwise?
As someone who owns both the FX3 and ZV-E1, I completely understand this! The ZV-E1 is the actual A7CII I was waiting for (because of my video focus over photography). It's just missing the viewfinder which I already got used to with my FX3. Also, it's lighter, full frame, half the cost, and you mentioned the exact reason I bought it to be my out-and-about TH-cam camera/B-CAM -- it doesn't ✨look✨ expensive. I went to Mexico City with it and I looked like a tourist. I grab the ZV-E1 more than my FX3 now when leaving my home. Also, saw you through your collab with Brittney 😎, subscribed!
Kept watching: My ZVE1 overheated for the first time while I was filming 4k-30fps continuously for a tutorial (I teach editing online) but again ZVE1 is B-CAM for this stuff so I'm not pressed FX3 kept chugging plus it finally overheated like 4 hours into filming 🫨
@@halleasehave you figured anything out for the overheating?
@@halleaseIs autofocus in zve1 better than in S3 ? Thanks!
Happy Birthday bro. I’m not gone lie, I called this months ago. Everybody wanted to hate on this camera when it came out because it didn’t have the super pro features ( 2nd card slot, more dials, buttons, 120fps at release, “Overheating”) but now people can’t get enough of it. I’m all for it because I love the ZV-E1. I believe the perfect combo would be a ZV-E1 for videos and a A7CR II A7R4/5 or A74 for photos
About 38% of a Terry Warfield video is Terry telling us what he's "not saying" lol !
Happy birthday brother thanks for all your content, looking forward to many more years!
OML yours too?! My younger cousin and my great uncle's was today as well! Happy Birthday Terry!
Love the video bro, I use an A7Siii (which I love) to shoot my current TH-cam comedy series but I’m getting ready to move on to featured films and fx3 is the cheapest I know of excepted by Netflix so I may have to purchase 🤷🏾♂️
It's all good man, gear is not everything. Do what you can with what you have. Look at what you need and get that. Don't give in to peer pressure.
I've been saying this since the zve1 was rumored to come out. I shot in the desert, and full blown music videos with my zve1. No extra sd card slot, still kept my footage safe, no internal fans, not once did it overheat, it's my main camera now and my a7iv is my B cam
I’m feeling the love for LUMIX cameras from a Sony shooter. I use both and I’m happy.
Happy Birthday, Brother You have to do what you have to do at the end of the day it's just tools that tell stories. We will never find the "perfect" camera. Though we can strive for "perfection". Thats the ingredient of creativity for self.
I went to a convention in Florida, so I did a vlog in Disney with the ZVE1 in 90 degree Florida weather and I had zero temp warnings or overheating issue.
Im a filmmaker in Oakland California, so I feel you on not wanting to take my a7siii out and would rather go out with a zv-e1.
Less expensive and not as chunky/expensive looking.
I sold my FX3 2 weeks before the ZV-E1 was released knowing that the FX3 market would get saturated and go down in pricing. I love the ZV-E1. I don’t need the dual card slot or mic grip. Plus the size of the ZV sold me.
I did exactly that, and I'm so happy. I just got the 20-70mm and I love it more than my 24-70 GMii. Bro if you need to record for a long time, get the Ulanzi fan. It's $40, and the updated version 2 sticks in way better and let's it play outdoors till the battery dies. I literally shot a wedding with it, filmed the whole ceremony with it for an hour straight, the Ulanzi fan works.
Happy Birthday Terry! I don't even remember 38! Enjoy the day! Thanks for sharing!
Happy Birthday! Use the gear that works best for your workflow - if your workflow changes, change the gear to match it. Having some extra change in your pocket is not a bad thing. I'm sure you'll do just fine with what you got. Thank you for being real.
Terry! you're the man! I rock 2 A7siii and and 6600 for run and gun.. Its all about work flow! AND the DJI MICS ARE BOSS AF!
That mic is awesome, thanks for the link. just ordered one :)
It actually makes sense. Long as you don't take too much of a beating on the resale, that's probably the move for the moment.
Hahah Terry be like, “before you cuss me out!!!” 👏🏻
First the a7siii and now this!! 😮😮😮 haha jk man, love it and stoked your going all in with the ZV E1 model. Excited to see you continually crushing it.
Just ordered a zve1 as a b cam for a7siii lol
I does a change similar... sold my a7s3 and bought a ZVE1. The Reasons?: Better AF, Luts on display, Breathing compensation, Variable Shutter, cheaper, small and lighter (omg, my back appreciated), touch screen, same quality, and for me no overheat at all (i no shot on 120p for long time, and in 24p running out my SD card and was perfect).
What i miss from my a7s3?: better display quality (the ave1 has the same display than the a74) and some physical dials (specialy the m1-2-3, on the zve1 are on the display) and that´s it.
Happy birtdaaaaay Terry! Man, that image of yours... it's killin' me 😆 Anyway, congrats on the ZV, it's obviously a good camera, can't bash ya on that choice, why would I? Myself I'm either going towards an A6700 or I'll wait a little more to see if the A7C gets significant update, stil love the full frame. I'm still with my trusty A7III for photography and occasional video, then an A6400 for livestreaming headshot and an old A5100 as well.
Happy birthday big dawg! Great video as always!
Yeah man at first I was sayin, 'Huh??', but your argument makes perfect sense... I am also in the same boat of not always wanting to take out my expensive/attention drawing camera (proud A1 owner here), ESPECIALLY at night or in sketchy places... I rented a ZV-E1 to record some DIY Home Renov and vacation vids and it was great! It DID overheat a couple of times, but only because I pushed it way outside of what it's supposed to do... Btw it's video tracking and active dynamic stabilization are AMAZING; Sony needs to put these on ALL future cameras. My Main Pain: The back LCD screen! WHY Sony??? 🙄🤦😔....
Many Happy Returns Of the Day! First time viewer. Liked and Subbed! Love you work on this video.
Happy birthday 🎉love your content 💯
I’ve been temped to do something similar.
Trade in my Sony A7iv for the zve1 but I’m more of a hybrid shooter and that’s a downgrade in photos for me.
I’m holding out for a a7s4 with better photos or sell my house for the A1ii if they ever make em
What is the handheld mic you are using in this video?
LOL - I feel you on all the qualifications you had to put into this video man... I did the same thing with my vid when I did my review, and I'm still keeping my FX3! haha. But the ZV-E1 is such a great value and is great for CERTAIN use cases. And ya, the overheating problem is overplayed a lot of times... but it does overheat - so if your primary use case is long form recording, then it might be a deal breaker. I've found though, that for short burst recordings, B-roll, short vlogging and even video podcasting/live streaming - it's generally fine. People gotta realize at the end of the day, the cameras are just tools... and the tool doesn't make the art.
All the best with the new cam!
Do you have the camera yourself or recapping internet rumours?
@@ikamyI've owned and used both professionally. I've had the ZV-E1 for about 7 months now using it pretty frequently. I've had the FX3 for longer.
Happy Birthday T!! No lie tho.. the 3rd party fans coming to market for the ZV-E1 should alleviate some of the demanding shoots that the ZV-E1 would otherwise struggle with.
The new panasonic you using is doing really well with autofocus..shoukd i get the lumix 5ii or the zv-e1 for solo filming?
The lumix is okay for the most part. Sony is still in a league of its own tho. Even with that the s5ii is arguably the best full frame camera per dollar. It really depends on what your needs are
Im with these cameras for the 4-channel sound, and 240 fps slo mo. And the 4:2:2 10-bit color
I was so tempted to buy that fx3 off of you 😆 but after using my a6700 today I kind of wished I had the zv-e1 instead. Happy birthday Terry!
What’s wrong with a6700?
@@jaymills1720 just wanted a little more extra low light and zoom rocker haha. but still a great camera.
So for close up shots for youtube you need not have an optical lens?
I just ordered 2 of those handles now. It sounds great, looks great.
All these Sony creators 'switching' their FX3's, ya know what's coming up. Should be an interesting end of year for camera releases.
Yeah your wrong. There’s no rumors or anything about the successor of the fx3 anywhere. I’m choosing the camera I think suits my needs best for my set of needs that I have right now
fr are they making videos of an a7siv
@@SaxSpy y’all can think what you want. I have no clue about a new a7s or fx. If I did I wouldn’t have gotten a zv-e1
Bro you do you and enjoy your Birthday! I hope this coming year is your best yet!
You and I know it’s now the gear, it’s the user! It’s what’s on the page! It’s movement, composition. I know for a fact you could shoot the exact same project with both cameras and know one would know the difference! Same damn sensor. I’m in your side, but I’m debating between the Sony and the sigma fp. Thoughts?
Terry. you nailed it. I keep my FX3 and I understand why you will change. What was the background soundtrack you used? Fabulous support for your video! Greets from berlin / Germany!
If that will make a difference with what you do and make you happy, go for it man! Personally, once I find a camera I really like (currently my a7siii), I just stick with it until it becomes a little too outdated. I enjoy getting to know absolutely everything about my camera. I am constantly experimenting and I keep getting better and better at getting the most out of it. This takes time and effort and I found that there is no way I can achieve that if I am constantly changing equipment. It’s just a question of preference and philosophy. Maybe I will get an A7siv, as it is supposed to come out soon. But I will keep my beloved a7siii as my B cam. Good show!
Where you saw the a7s4 is supposed to come out soon??
First off! Happy Birthday! Blessings and more life to you my brotha!
2nd off ... your logic is sound especially cause you have other cameras. Push comes to shove you can always rent it
Where do you guys sell your gear so easily? And for a good price.
For someone new would you do ZV-E1 or FX3 for 3100?
Use what suits your needs best. I’m looking forward to the upcoming a7cII/cR to possibly replace my a7sIII and a7IV for a more compact kit for photo and video work. I’m also shifting my 2.8 zooms to the new Sony f/4’s. I shoot a lot of travel, those zooms and a couple small primes will make a great kit. OG Sony shooters don’t care about single card slots, I remember all the flames when the a7rII was released and haters said it wasn’t a pro camera. Mine helped to fund a 18 month trip around the world. 😂
How did you fund the trip?
