    You missed the Diva - the one that looks over the new person in the room (with disdain), turns her back on this person but will accept a quick back scratch, flips a tail as she majestically leaves the room, because this person was not worth staying around for.

    My dad really dislikes my cat and while he doesn't mistreat her, he either ignores her or gets grumpy at her in order to make her go away. What I find really interesting is that she always purrs and displays her tummy whenever she sees him, as though she wanted to befriend him despite his disapproval of her

    You forgot The Grumpy Old Man, the older cat that wants everything their way and they want it NOW. The grumpy old man loves his people and puts up with the dog but God forbid if he sees the bottom of the food bowl cause he will sit there by the bowl till it is properly filled and will cry if the sitting and staring doesn't work. The grumpy old man walks into a room and looks for his food despenser I mean his human and jumps up on the couch and then lays on the soft cuddleing thing I mean his human and will cuddle. The grumpy old man cat can not fight the Mommy his first human and very noisy puts up with ear cleaning and nail trimming and now due to the extreme age of the grumpy old man daily washing and brushing cause the grumpy old man cat does not clean himself cause of his old age. The grumpy old man cat can be a bit of a handful but he lives his Mommy and lives his cuddles almost as much as he loves his food. On a side note the grumpy old man cat is a great Hunter and will proudly get the mice that have been already been killed by the mouse trap and will only accept the highest of praise for his kill or he will stick his butt in your face the next time you are both on the couch watching TV.
    Side note on the Grumpy Old Man; when your cat gets to this stage of life when they can't do a lot of the stuff they normally do like clean and groom them selves or they can no longer chew food property due to either lack of teeth or tooth pain here's a couple of tips.
    Tip 1: take a damp, warm wash rag and pet them with it starting at the head, the body the legs, feet and then the genial and the butt. Always wash what might have poop on it last it saves you on wash rags. Then pet them with a soft towel or microfiber towel and then brush them with whatever they like to be brushed with. I had to use a flea comb due to my old man getting fleas in the summer for a week every year and the flea meds causing him some nasty side effects ( drooling, and couldn't walk a straight line for a day after meds where given)
    Tip 2: If your cat can no longer eat his food as he normally would due to teeth either a lack of or tooth pain, buy kitten food either wet or dry. The wet food you'll need to feed them more of it cause it has less calories and the dry food you will need to grind in a spice mill till it is like fine sand and mix with warm water to make a wet paste. Check the calorie and in my case I used the dry kitten food it had more calories in it and mixed it with warm water and would add some tuna water from the can and a bit of tuna.
    Tip 3: Get a bunch of doggie training pads and put them all around your litter box and if your litter box isn't very low to the ground the buy a very low one. Most Grumpy Old Men have a bit of arthritis and getting in to the litter box is hard. Trust me a well trained cat is going to try very hard to do their mess in the box but sometimes they will miss and having those wet pads around the litter box will be a good thing ( as Martha Stewart would say) also praise your cat for making it to the pads. Another thing about litter boxes get litter that is like sand its softer for older paws.
    Tip 4: This is a sad tip. If your cat starts hiding and doesn't like to come out of their hidy hole it might mean that they are going to die soon so you got 2 choices take them to the vet and put them down while you give them a ton of love or you wait to let nature take it's course. In my case in hindsight my cat was telling me his end was near by hiding and when I found him, he had been go e for a while . I remembered I wrapped him in his favorite blanket and put him in his bed and then a box and waited till my husband came home and he buried our Grumpy Old Man, Draco.
    Sorry these tips aren't as funny as the first part about a year after I wrote this post both my old boys passed first was my dog due to his failing heart and 6 weeks later Draco my dog was 15 and my cat was almost 21 . My Grumpy Old Man started acting like a grumpy old man when he was 7 and just got weirder as he got older but he was a funny old man. He would see me get the stuff ready to clean him show off his fangs then sort, hang his head and come over to get cleaned and brush. I open a can of tuna and he would come running form where ever he was and meow till he got a little tuna water or the dregs from the can. Oh but the best thing he would go nutso for fried chicken. My husband would bring a bucket of fried chicken home and my Draco would howl and moan and groan till he got some thinking about that still makes me laugh. Having an older cat is more work in some ways but it also is great as well and worth all the extra effort but if you got a Grumpy Old Man they work their way into your heart and stay there even after their gone.

    My sister's cat is the Mojito-est cat I know. She's Labrador retriever Mojito level. She will welcome strangers into the house, lay at their feet, swish her tail around their calves, you name it. She loves being with people and hanging out. When my family is in a room together, she's in the room, grooming herself. I have never had a cat like her before.

    My cat started out as a wallflower, she is deaf and partially blind from birth and was abandoned. When we took her in she was looking rough even though she was only a few weeks old. Now she's almost 10 and is a mojito cat :) she still gets spooked when too many strangers are in the house at once but at the end of the night she's all over them!

    Jackson, my daughter & I just recently discovered you & your videos have been so helpful. We've always had pets (cats, dogs, etc) but I haven't had one for over 10 years due to apartments not allowing it. My daughter recently adopted a kitty (about 1 1/2 years old) who is a bit of a Wallflower. I was able to coax her out from under my daughter's headboard, was able to play with her a bit today & she is now rubbing up against me & letting me pet her. I'm used to Mojito cats so it has required patience & encouragement from you for us to get to this point. Thank you so much! Light, love & mojo to you ❤️ 😁

    I'm sixteen and just got my first ever cat. He's from our local shelter, a year old, domestic shorthair with some Abyssinian mixed in there somewhere. I named him Kubla. He's definitely a Mojito cat even though I've only had him for two months now. I am so glad I got a cat and not a dog, he's literally my best friend. He's the most people oriented cat I've ever know, he literally follows me around the house, and sleeps curled up next to me at night. I've never had a single behavior issue except that he meows frequently. I don't mind it but it really gets on my father's nerves. Is that just part of the cats personality or is there a way to encourage him to meow less or only in certain situations. It doesn't seem like he's meowing because he needs anything, he always has water, gets feed twice a day according to what our vet told us, and has clean litter. It honestly just seems like more conversational meowing.

    • @Metzli
      @Metzli 7 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      My cat likes to meow at me a lot too :) And he's been meowing more more recently actually! And sometimes it might be him asking for a little bit of what's in our plate but he meows a lot in between our phrases when we talk to him. So I guess is he trying to answer, trying to mimic how we communicate. At least, that's how I like to think of it :)

    • @danielwickham3439
      @danielwickham3439 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      do you play with him with toys so you can burn off some of his energy out and to increase the bond bewteen you and the cat as he may be meowing because he has nothing to do so if you play with him more regularly even if it just for 20 minutues with a good quality toy allow him to catch it at the end then feed him then this will not only increase the bond but it will make him wont to relax because he will be tired meaning hes less likely to meow

      My cat does that too. If I ask her something she responds and if she's angry I repeat my 'What' like I'm from New York, or my Caught in a Chicago traffic jam attitude. And yeah she responds in kind. Ver people oriented as well, but there are times that she wants to sleep.

    Ichabod used to be a wallflower, but after two years in a place where he has consistent structure, love and places to climb he is doing so much better. He can be nervous with a lot of people over but he's gotten to the point where he'll say hello if we just have one guest and doesn't feel as if he HAS to hide if someone new is there. It makes me so happy to see him walking around with his little tail up and rolling around to get others to play with him.

The first cat, was a mojito cat, he would sleep anywhere and everywhere, and when we had company, would sleep in the middle of high-traffic areas, because he could (he would also roll around in the dirt after a bath). The second cat, I dunno. He would walk around the house like he owned it, and when company came over, he would peek at who showed up, then go do his own thing. I couldn't help but notice the sign behind you about de-clawing cats. It's not something I've heard of before so I googled it and I can't believe that's actually a thing! No vet in England would ever consider performing an operation like that. Its beyond cruel! Why the hell would people do that?

    • @deathXbyXlight
      @deathXbyXlight 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some do it in advance so the cat can't claw anything, and that person in my experience would also punish the cat for being on the furniture. Personally, I think that if you don't want the hairy baby on everything, don't get them. Some do it as an absolute last option. One of my friends had to do it to their cat because she was just naturally aggressive and possessive. She almost never clawed people (unless they deserved it), but she loved to tear the shit out of their furniture and walls. Nothing helped, they even tried to see if it was an issue with the environment, but they couldn't find anything. So they got Soft Paws, or thes little plastic glove things that you put on a cat's claws so that when they scratch it doesn't hurt anything. She chewed them off. That cycle continued for months, so they declawed her.
      We've never done that to our cats, but maybe that's because they've never had a significant change in environment to unsettle them. They were born in the house, so was their mother and grandmother.

    • @SassySmall1

      Typhoon Whirl thank you so much! What a lovely comment! We are getting there slowly, she still has the occasional time where she remembers her past, but on the whole I am making great progress with her. Its kind of like an onion, she is always peeling off another layer to show us another adorable quality, or another cheeky thing she does. She didn't have the confidence or freedom to be herself in her abusers home.
      I didn't take her in for thanks or praise, but the fact you took the time to write such a wonderful comment means the world to me, thank you.

    Hi Jackson! Could you give us any tips on how to play with two cats? I noticed when I try to engage with my cats, they tend to be very wary of each other, and get spooked if they pursue the toy at the same time. In the end one will continue to play, while the other will walk away and just observe from a distance :( Is this because cats have some "play etiquette" that I don't understand? Would appreciate your advice.

    • @Yhoni875
      @Yhoni875 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My cats do this. Depending on the game I can get them to take turns (it helps that one of them has a natural understanding of this concept). I play with one until she's exhausted, then the other cat takes over. Cats have short top energy spans so have a little breather every ten minutes or so, works well for them. I verbally engage the observer to let him/her know it's their turn next. If one cat really doesn't want to share, I take two toys. Both cats have different favourite toys, so that helps. Sometimes they make etiguette mistakes, both jump out at the same time, but it doesn't end up in a fight. Hope this helps you. (Oh, none of the above works when trying to walk two cats on leads at the same time!!!)

      I have 2 cats and deal with this daily. I tied a toy on heavy string for each cat. I keep one string in each hand and keep each cat on either side of me for most of the playing. I'll also walk down the hall trailing both toys behind me and they come racing behind me and forget that they're both together. I've gotten pretty good at keeping them both entertained at the same time. I think it's more about safe territory for each cat so I provide that as best I can. The love to play and they're not shy about asking for play time either!

    My boy Loki is a rescue from a home with a dog that was being mean to him (he was basically living alone in the basement for fear of the dog :( ) if the owner couldn't find someone to take him, he would have ended up at the humane society. And I gotta say...he definitely knows it. When he first came to live with me he was all nervous and wolfing down food in fear of it being gone in ten seconds and looking around corners for the dog, but once he realized he was in a one cat apartment the love just poured out of him. Now he greets me at the door every day when I get home from work with meows and headbutts and he's so trusting he even let me start brushing his teeth! Your videos helped me a LOT with understanding his behaviour (we eye-blink at each other as a greeting :D ) Thank you so much for helping me understand him and give him the confidence he so badly needed. He was a wallflower when I got him, but now he is definitely a Mojito cat! We'll be celebrating one year together in September :)

She named him Oreo (black and white cat) I think of him as my Mister Mojito. It took us 2 months to get him used to the harness and walking around the apartment complex. I have two cats. I guess they both are Mojito cats. But the younger gray one turns into the Wallflower and hides when other people come over. Sometimes he comes out in curiosity. but mostly hides. While the black one doesn't give a shit. He just sits there licking his ass, waiting for you to pet him.

    My cat is less of a mojito cat and more of a butler cat. You walk in and he will be all like "Welcome to my home, let me show you the bathroom." Then you follow him and he jumps up on the sink and expects you to turn it on for him to drink. Then he drinks and walks away and falls asleep in some random part of the house. Come to think of it, he's a crappy butler, even if he is dressed for the job. I don't know why I pay him.

    Dude, I'm so glad that I found this video. I found my cat four years ago, when she was around ten months old and she hasn't been around many people, besides me. I moved in with a roommate and he has a lot of company. I was so worried that all the new people were stressing her out that I was scared to close my bedroom door, in case she wanted to hide. Turns out, she was just running around, trying to be a good host. I'm so proud of her.

    my cat doesnt fall into any of these categories. she walks around the entire house, but not with as much confidence as the mojito cat. she doesnt like cuddling or interacting with people much, but of course she loves playing. she does have some sort of a peeing problem, but only because we moved her litterbox too quickly, as we did not know this was damaging. we also fear she maybe partially blind, as she jumps at eveyone noise, has a hard time finding her treats even when theyre right in front of her (it also probably doesnt help the the treats are the same color as the counter we them to her on ) and when she was a kitten she had an eye infection in which her eye got cloused over. we were given medicine and the cloudyness, but we have a hunch that she might have been affected by this. our other cat has none of those problems, but hes definitely a mojiti cat.

    I had a cat, that was the ultimate Mojito cat. He was happy walking on a leash on cat shows - no matter were we went, as long I was with him, he was happy. He was owning and sharing his house with what ever new cat, we got. He just did not get, the other cats hissing and growling. Allways like 'why do you hiss? Everything is nice'. Even when he had to be put down, he was purring with his tale in the air at the vet. Miss him

    • @brisaquina8816
      @brisaquina8816 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ofc he turns into a wallflower when going into a new place. A cat is being a mojito cat if he is confident he owns the place. If a cat isn't confident he owns the place he becomes a wallflower. So if he goes into a new place, he knows it isn't his place and so isn't confident it's his place as he has never been there and so doesn't know anything about it. He has also never marked it before. And so he goes wallflower mode.

    • @salumbre365
      @salumbre365 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +InDeepPudding Actually, they can. I have two cats, and they both own the place. Unlike dogs, cats don't have a fixed hierarchy, which means that they basically take turns being the alpha. So, for instance, my ginger owns the closet, but sometimes can't get in there because my tuxedo claims it and does not let him. And at other times they simply share it and that's that.
      My ginger loves people and greets (and basically smothers) all visitors. My tuxedo doesn't, so she mostly ignores them, but will still will saunter in and out of the room if need be. And, very rarely, she will come up to a visitor and befriend them in her haughty way.

    • @werelemur1138
      @werelemur1138 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +InDeepPudding All three of my family's cats are on the Mojito end of things. The older male is calmly confident in his ownership and ability to keep the two "kids" in their place, my little girl is a super-friendly cat who once had to be locked up so that the cable guy (who was allergic) could do his job without feline interference, and the younger male is easily startled by loud noises and sudden movement, but isn't afraid of the other two cats.

    I used to have 2 cats (1 now) - Butters and Aurora. Butters was about a year older and definitley a Mojito. She loved attention, cuddling, and playing with me. Aurora was the Wallflower, always shy but sweet, never really craving any attention. They got along very well with eachother though. They were nest friends. About 6 months ago Butters had hurt a baby and we had to give her to the humane society. After she left, Aurora slowly came out of her shell. Now she's definitley a Mojito since her sister had gone. She wakes me up in the mornings, sleeps with me at night, cuddles anytime she can and loves my attention. Idk if she was just afraid of getting my attention when Butters was still around or if she's just lonely since she left, but Aurora has become probably the most confident cat Ive known.

    • @tsohanlee
      @tsohanlee 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      once a mother cat has the litter, she is suppose to spend next 10 - 12 wks caring for her kittens. Now your cat's kittens all died prematurely, and she is still in the maternity mode, it may explains why she is following you around. Many cats think of their owners as their family members, that's why they bring home their kills as their way of saying they're trying to take care of you. There are many examples of cats whom had lost their litters prematurely, and ended up being seregate mothers to other species of animals such as puppies. Now back to your cat su su, her situation will remedy it self with time, once her natural needs to care for her kittens wear off. In the mean time, try to spend more time with her, It may bond you and her closer. Get her fixed will also help. Plus if you don't get her fixed soon, she is going to have another litter of kittens.

    Have two family cats. Got them at a shelter when they were about 1 year old and they are named Shakespeare and Timothy. When they first got home Timmy was a wallflower, practically terrified of everything. He had only known the shelter since he was a kitten, while Shakes used to live outdoors.
    Shakes was more confident and friendly. It took weeks before Timmy warmed up and explored the house (he hid under a couch for two weeks!) and now I'm happy to say at 11 years old they are both loving their new home.
    Shakes is a lap cat, super cuddly, but OH how Timmy has changed! He absorbs any attention he can get! Goes to show how much their personality has changed when they finally got a home. (Shakes is still my baby tho)

    My cat is definitely a Mojito cat and we've had him close to a year. He's like a dog but in a cats body which is a plus since i'm a dog lover but I can say after adopting my cat and growing a bond with him I have grown a soft spot for cats as well. He's very friendly, highly affectionate also constantly wants attention even if you've given him. He follows me around and when I call him he comes right away. He's also a very talkative cat. But when strangers come over he hides/runs away.

    my cat is certainly the mojito! the only time i've seen her get aggressive is with a very pushy, dominant dog who visited. shes a bit of a wallflower around young kids, but not too much, she likes her space is all :)

    I have an 11 month old ginger shorthair and he is the most mojito cat I have ever seen. Literally the perfect cat. We got him at 6 months old and we invited friends over after a couple weeks of having him. I was very curious how he would react, because all my other cats were wallflowers the moment a new person would come. NOPE, he instantly is everybody's BEST friend. I love the little guy so much :')

    We brought our cat in from friends that had to move. In our house, she is mojito cat but a wallflower cat kind of when the dogs are excited. So I think she is a mojito cat but making sure she is safe because he last home the dogs would harass her. She has warmed up to them but does not fully trust them once they get up and move around her. Thanks for all the great advice! We have helped her through much of your advice.

    My kitty is definitely a Mojito one. She's not afraid of strangers at all. Whenever we have a guest she walks to them, sniffs them and even bites their toes or fingers (if they tease her). My first cat was not like her, and he was a wallflower cat. He's quite timid and always afraid of strangers. It took me months to get close to him but he was so sweet and gentle. I miss him so much.

    The cat I used to catsit is a mojito cat, but also a stalker cat - always watching from a distance, wanting to see what's going on, not really cuddly, but loving play time and would follow you everywhere because humans are really entertaining to her. Also loves to stare into your soul.

    That's one of my favorite things about my cat. He's super confident and loves to explore people and things. Lmao I love sitting there and watching him march around with his head and tail high, inspecting his holdings and head butting any items that are not sufficiently scented. And he sleeps on his back with his paws drawn up like a dead bug. His whole fuzzy undercarriage be out. 😂

    Lilo is a Mojito in a way that’s almost over the top: very friendly and will often put on a show for visitors. Gizmo, Lilo’s brother, is a sweet and friendly kitty around us, but takes a while to warm up to visitors (he often looks to me for cues the visitor is ok and can be trusted). Luna, our senior cat, is none of these. She likes to be out and about, so not shy, but prefers to be admired from afar rather than be touched, etc

    My cat is definitely a mojito cat, he is 15 years old but I adopted him when he was 9. After his owner died, he was sent to a shelter by the family where he stayed 5 years living with at least 30 other cats. He is super chill with other cats even if they are aggressive towards him. Such a good heart, I feel like I will never get over his death when the day comes.

    we found my kitty outside of my boyfriend's house in the winter, crying a ton. she's a terrible fighter and hunter so I figure she was starving and obviously freezing as it was a very cold winter.
    now she's the happiest kitty, gives everyone in my family kisses, visits people in the house to get pets, say hello and to nap in random areas. everyone loves her and she's spoiled.
    when I take her outside she doesn't like strangers, so she will hide behind me or run into garage. but if someone new comes into the house, she's comes up to say hello and investigate :)
    I think she remembers what her life used to be like, when she didn't have a home, so now she appreciates everything.
