First new console I bought with my own money (a couple years before, I’d bought a used NES). We really put those 4 controller ports to good use with mario kart, goldeneye, star fox and smash bros. We rented and bought games strategically (different friends bought different games and we swapped to save $). Also, controller: why are people still crying about it? Hand positioning was explained ON THE N64 BOX! Also, no game required you to use both the dpad and analog stick at the same time, it simply isn’t how games were designed at the time. Turok 1’s control scheme was brilliant and is how I always played goldeneye (Solitaire). I like the N64 controller so much I bought two for nintendo switch online and one is still in the box.
Honestly you have some really good content, I was surprised you didn't have more subscribers.😮 I own most major titles for the 64, but my top 5 are: 1080, Bomberman Hero, Goldeneye 007, Killer Instinct Gold, and Star Soldier Vanishing Earth.
Thanks, I really appreciate that😁 I'm working on my next video right now, and my output is about to ramp up after that ones release. Also, 1080 was originally on my list for this video, but got cut for time; great game btw. Thanks for watching!!
But... if I don't throw up a stock image/gif/meme for every other word... than how will you know what I'm talking about???🤪 Happy you liked the video; thanks for watching!!
Right!! I mean Mortal Kombat has "that song" but KI kills it in every way... I still listen to it till this day, and the 2013 games soundtrack is god tier!! Thanks for watching!
First off, I want to say I’m a huge and 64 fan. It was part of my college years and rode over it. I’ve already sold my PlayStation for financial reasons and I must be probably one of the only ones that agreed with Nintendo‘s decision to stick with cartridges For the platform. Did Nintendo’s decision to stick with cartridges hurt them yes it did but I think if it weren’t for that decision, we probably wouldn’t of got some of the greatest games we did and also as prices came down on rum chips we got bigger games and perfect dark and cooker’s bad fur day on the biggest N64 cartridges at the time along with resident evil 2 plus we got super smash Bros which is still running to this day I know many people hate the N64 but for me it was one of my favourite Nintendo systems and remain so to this day Super Mario 64 was revolutionary and quite frankly, neither Sony or SEGA offered anything that was equal to it not even crash bandicoot could stand up to Super Mario 64
The Nintendo 64 was my first home console; I got it as a Christmas present from my older brother at the end of 2000, when I was 10 years old. It was on the N64 that I played some of the most memorable games of my childhood: Pokémon Stadium 1 and 2, Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart 64, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, Super Mario 64, Mario Tennis, Mario Party, F-Zero X, and, of course, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (I only played Majora's Mask in the 3DS remaster). From time to time I plug my Nintendo 64 into my TV to replay some of these games, but since I subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack earlier this year, it's become easier to revisit them. There's one I haven't played yet, but I really hope Nintendo includes it in NSO: Ogre Battle 64, because I really like strategy RPG games. I agree with the criticisms you made, and I also think that the Nintendo 64 is still so beloved for a certain nostalgic factor. In my own case, although I already had a Game Boy Color, it was with the N64 that I became a Nintendo enthusiast. By the way, in 2001 I convinced a few friends who were in doubt between the N64 and the PS1 to buy the former. 😄 P.S.: I really enjoyed your series of videos about the N64! Keep making cool and fun videos about classic consoles!
How some games are so simple and boring and nothing and others are so great and complicated, doesnt quite make sense to me .. i heard was a difference in the capability in the later years of it ...
Early games are usually much simpler than later in the lifespan games. The developers have more time with the hardware and figure out all the ends and outs of it, and that's why we usually see the most visually competent games closer to the end of a consoles life😁 Thanks for watching!!
The problem with this console having specs that outstripped its competitors was there was just no taking advantage of that with only 8MB storage on a cartridge. The higher the potential graphical quality, the more data you're gonna need to store that, so I often see the N64 being remembered for having very ugly graphics despite being capable of more. I loved the N64. No loading times, a tighter lineup of games because the prohibitively trickier hardware meant basically no shovelware (bad games were bad because of execution, not malicious cynicism) and some of my all-time favourite games are on it. It just bet on the wrong horse in terms of medium.
It certainly did have some great games, and a much higher percentage of quality games too... though it had far fewer games than it's competition. Unfortunately due to the technical limitations you mentioned, many of the games did come across looking "muddy". Thanks for watching!!
Sure the N64 hasn’t aged well graphically but you know what? I love the system and it’s literally my second favourite Nintendo concert of all time and I will always defend it. The N64 was my console of choice through the college years while everybody else was playing PlayStation. I’m in the minority who backed Nintendo decision to stick with cartridges mainly because of the loading times being instant.
The 64 was great , in fact 4 of my top 10 favorite games were on it ! Mario 64 , Wave Race , Rouge Squadron, and Ocarina in TIme ! But I had to admit when PlayStation came out it at that time ! was over ! Funny thing is on my top 10 favorite. There is no PlayStation one games but three N 64 games.! My top 3 games of all time are Nintendo games! Funny, how time changes Things ! Just shows the dominance of Nintendo!
While the N64 definitely had its short comings, and it's library was small in comparison to it's competition, you can't argue the quality of the games it did have. Just tons of bangers!! Thanks for watching!
It is an awesome game till this day... I only needed about 30 seconds of footage, but I ended up playing for about two hours, lol🤪 Thanks for watching!!
I don't have rose tinted glasses, I have the opinion now as I did then. You are forgetting that the n64 controller was the best controller at the time. The ps1 controller didn't have analog sticks yet. Yes, cross platform n64 games didn't have fmv sequences or cd quality music, but you forget that the n64 versions usually had better graphics. Most of the best n64 games the ps1 and saturn just simply weren't powerful enough to do. Ps1 had many more games, but 90% of the library was garbage. The best n64 games were miles better than anything on the ps1 or saturn. If n64 had been cd based, it would've destroyed the ps1 and even competed with the dreamcast and ps2. There's a reason nobody wanted the ps1 mini, the games don't hold up as well today and mostly weren't ground breaking, by the time the n64 came out the ps1 was a very unimpressive system. N64 also wasn't for kids, turok 1 and 2 and golden eye were more violent than anything on the ps1 except for maybe silent hill which looked graphically horrible. Love ps2 and ps3, but the ps1 might be the most overrated game console of all time.
While I appreciate the N64's innovation in the conteoller department, I never liked that thing! Admittedly, it worked fantastic for Mario 64, but many games seemed awkward using it to me... happy you liked it though🤪 I agree that many of the cross-platform games looked better on the N64, and 100% agree that the 64 had better overall quality games than the PS1... the PS1 had some great games, but damn it had a lot of crap too!! The PS1 was more about quantity than quality; not saying there weren't quality games, but quantity seemed to be their priority, which did work out for them, so while I prefer quality, I can't argue with their results. If you like the PS3, check out my "Story of the PlayStation 3" video😁 Thanks for watching!!

The very small amount of texture cache was just as big of a limitation.
