Brock i could of used that winch a couple months ago as I buried the 2032r in mud , had to Jerk it out with my half ton truck... No Fun... good choice looking forward to upcoming videos of the new winch.

Winches are great , I use mine alot as a " helper " when I'm in the woods. Much , much more versatile than a skidding winch and ALOT less money ! You are gonna love it...

About a year ago I did the same thing. I put a 2" receiver on my front weight bracket and use that position to pull trees across creeks and ravines leaving the rear for skidding logs. I also put a 150 amp circuit breaker near the battery and made an extension to run from the front to the rear when needed. I use the this power tap to run other things like a dump trailer and a crane for loading 1000lb. Logs onto my splitter. Woks like a champ. Let me know if you need photos. Cheers!

Depending on how much you're pulling out cable wise, it's probably a good idea to leave it running when using it. Those things are rough on a battery when they're strained. Not sure on the new ones, but the older ones you have to pull the cable all the way out and "pack wind" it back up under tension to keep it from trying to bird nest. I typically just drag the truck in up a slight hill and hand feed the wire evenly back in.

That's a great idea. I would of felt a lot more comfortable yesterday on a project I was working on if I had a winch setup like that. I was removing about 3 feet by 10ft of solid mud, where a farm road crosses the creek. All the sediment from this spring/summer flood waters piled up. It was wet and slick. It had me nervous a couple of times. Lol. Great video, Brock!

Consider switching the cables, put the short ones on the battery and the long ones on the winch. Less mess under the hood, and the longer cable with the winch may reach the receiver if you want to mount it on the truck rear. You could buy another coupler for the unused cables and mount those to your truck battery. I've had 8000# and 9000# Warns on a Jeep and 5 pickups set up like that. Have a smaller one setup that way for my John Deere 1025r with receivers for the 3 point hitch and my pallet fork attachment on the front.

Using receiver hitches for mounting my 12,000# winch to my pickup truck is exactly what I did .They sell receiver hitches for the front of the truck frame as well as the rear.
I only needed to build a special offset drawbar adapter to lift the winch up higher in the front so it was not too low.
Now I can remove it or put it on when I need to.
BTW , I went to NAPA and bought 4 of the blue 175 amp battery connectors and enough 2 gauge welding cable off ebay to run the power out the front grille and to the rear bumper. Made the rear one long enough that I can also use it for the winches on my flat bed trailers.
I also set up my 2018 Silverado with dual batteries and a battery isolator solenoid that is on in start and run key positions.
Grounding the power connectors to the frame and batteries is very tricky and important here on the new trucks or it won't see the power load of the winch and not charge the batteries correctly.

I figured out how to add the dual battery setup years ago on these new GM trucks WITHOUT causing unintended electrical issues in the last 3 GM trucks I've owned.
I've never had to add a second or upgrade the OEM alternators in mine.
The reserve of that second battery is what does it.
First thing to do is upgrade the sizes of all the NEGATIVE battery cables from the battery to the engine block #2AWG and from the battery to the vehicle frame #4AWG.
Both negative cables must go through the current transformer loop by the battery.
BOTH of the battery cables for the second battery must be brought to the primary battery and hooked in there.
Do NOT ground the second battery anywhere else.
It creates a ground loop and messes up the negative battery cable current transformer and it won't charge correctly.
I pulled my negative battery feed to the winch connectors right from the drivers side of the engine block.
Also ran a #2AWG jumper from the drivers side frame to the engine block as well.
The isolation solenoid is installed in the POSITIVE cable near the primary battery.
It is triggered from an unused pin in the distribution block under the dash next to the Ebrake pedal that is hot in the start and run positions only.
My system has been in 3 trucks so far and works great.

Gm has a really wierd charging system algorythm. They monitor total battery draw and/or charging through the negative cables.
They monitor system voltage.
The monitor outside ambient air temps.
They monitor alternator or underhood air temps.
I had to do a lot of research on this before I actually did it.
Didn't want to void their warranty.
GM was of no help.
They said if it wasn't engineered and built that way , it shouldn't be modified.
I had to figure it out.

Love what u did. Plan on putting one on my weight box. One thing though. If you are pulling heavy loads. Make sure your weight bar is set real low or you could lift front wheels of tractor

Instead of a fuse use at least a 100 amp resettable circuit breaker.
Yes I ordered some more parts for this including mounting plates for other locations and in-line breakers

Agreed. I saw people putting little Winchs on their tractors that wouldn’t pull half of what the tractor could and I thought I was going Overkill at 8000 pounds.
I was wrong. If I was buying again I would get a 12,000 pound winch.
The winch I have Pulls harder than the tractor Which I have demonstrated on a couple of videos. However if the tractor is getting any traction it will pull probably 80% of what the winch will Sometimes it’s a little frustrating that this one still won’t do what I want it to
If the tractor is parked with the emergency brake on my winch will drag the tractor across the ground so I have to block the tires but I would still go 12 K
Does that winch come with both the hardwired remote and the radio remote.
It is good to have both.
BTW , great video and you got a great winch kit for that tractor.
You will love it.
Now get some tree straps and a couple snatch blocks.

This is exactly what I want to do to my 1025r! Very curious how it works. Some people said I would need an auxiliary battery since the tractor alternator is too small. Not sure of the difference between my tractor and yours alternator wise but very cool.
That would probably depend on how much you are using it, or how much you are driving between pulls
I will worry about it when it becomes a problem

Nice winch setup! One thing to note, you should not run the winch cable around something and hook it back to itself. It is very bad for hook to be pulling sideways on the cable like that. You will want to carry a sling for when you need to go around an object like that, then clip the hook to the sling. A length of chain with a grab hook can also be used to create a loop to hook to.

Lol it's not too big of a winch. I would say it's the minimum size for your tractor and truck. Also handy to have is a snatch block 20k rated to keep with it. I have a warn m8000 on the front of my f250 and keep 2 snatch blocks and extra shackles in my toolbox for such needs. I can double my pulling power to 16k easy or more with additional snatch blocks. Good pick on the winch capacity.

Yesterday I thought I was being careful about it but I got my winch cable knotted up

Brock... I think you forgot something. You said you may want to connect it to your truck, or trailer if you need to. You will need to make sure you always carry a wrench with you to disconnect it from the tractor battery if this is the case. Forget about your plan to possibly route the wiring from the front to rear of the tractor. GOOD VIDEO. I was thinking of doing this myself now that fall is coming and the ground is getting softer.
I was thinking about buying another wiring disconnect kit for the truck so I can leave the wiring in place

@@RockhillfarmYT Wouldn't it make more sense to put the short side of the wiring on the battery and keep the long side with the winch? Then you could get another short end and put that on your truck battery and easily move the winch between them.
I definitely see your point. The long side is inconvenient on the winch or on the battery side
Having that much cord on the winch anytime you have it mounted on the tractor is a good way for it to get snagged and pulled out
Since I needed to add a breaker into the line I’m going to change up how I have the wiring and show it in another video

Did u have to and a nother battery on tractor or just a bigger battery so when you pull heavy and long loads with winch it keeps pulling ?
I don’t use the Winch very often but I didn’t change anything with the battery and it worked fine

You need to build a bracket with a receiver to mount to the front of the tractor so you can use it front or rear

I think he has, or maybe someone else I’m thinking of, a 2” hitch receiver on top of his front end loader bucket… can’t you insert onto that?
I do have a receiver on my wicked bucket which is pretty heavy duty. I wouldn’t want to use it for really hard pulling but in a pinch I can put it on there
@@medjoolmaker But that's not really strong enough you can twist or bend the loader arm or the bucket. I guy I know took and made a mount that bolts to the front of the tractor frame where the brush guard and everything bolts to and welded a 2inc shank to it so he can use his winch on the front. I could post photos I would post a picture of it

You really want to put a properly sized fuse within 12" of the battery. This will protect from potential fire if the cable shorts to the chassis.

Why not have it connected to the loader with a quick attach plate receiver? I’m in the process of doing it this way, let me know if you think this is a bad idea
You definitely could, loaders can also be bent. I try not to pull heavy loads with the loader
The battery and alternator can handle the draw?
My answer would be that it depends on how you are using it. If you do a couple pulls and then operate the tractor for an hour and then do a couple more pulls then I’d say you’re good to go.
If you are constantly pulling logs for an hour I could see the possibility of running the battery down.
That’s exactly what they told me about the trickle charge on my dump trailer.
The charge from the truck is not designed to keep up with constant operation but if you drive in between loads it will do fine
The answer I just gave is an opinion. When I do a follow up video on this set up a month from now I will have a verified answer

A winch comes in very handy I have a 12000 lb. I got a 2nd drawbar bar welded a receiver tube to it so I could slide the winch into it and then added a piece of the tube to my Trailer. I'll be building a bracket with a receiver this winter for the front of the tractor. So I can use it on the front or rear of the tractor front or rear of my pick up and my trailer. I bought a dump trailer wiring kit for all the wiring of the truck tractor and trailer.
