Thanks Adam, they are really decent amps and this one is still live and kicking, it’s actually doing about 800 peak watts after a few small upgrades I did. 73
Thank you, very kind words sir. I wish I could do more videos at a speedier pace but I do have a full time career and Im a father of two sons, if I had the free time I would record one everyday lmao. 73
Hello Mr. Ground Control/204, I just wanted to say thank you so much for all that you do and showing these videos, I always appreciate and enjoy watching them. I just have to say I like you and I really like your style; you add so much needed class to the CB Radio tech scene. Based on watching this video, I am ordering this Amp tomorrow. Thanks again, 73's to you and yours! I'm already looking forward to the next video.
Hello 204 ground- controller.Time has come and gone. Just like to know how that 703 is holding up. Be safe and stay well EVERYONE. ( DESPERADO 56 NORTH OF TAMPA FL. JUST PASSING THRU HAVING A HAND.) 73's
Your radio room is super nice bro, I been just getting into radios lately and wanna setup a base station setup. Got a cb in semi (stryker 655) barefoot and a uniden 880 with rm italy 203 in my chevy malibu so far!
Thanks Steve, the best experience I’ve had is setting up a base station and getting comfortable inside a dwelling. Too many years it was all mobile Ops for me, now I just run a Stryker 655 bear foot in the mobile, simple comms set up. But all my effort will be in the base station set up. 73
Man, I'm glad you posted this video. I don't know how I missed pt 1 but I went back and watched it, too. I have been looking for some informative videos on this amp and you delivered! I have been considering buying one of these but haven't seen any info or any real world videos on this amp in action. As far as price, the amps I've seen for sale run ALOT cheaper than most amp builder's prices and the 703 seems to be much cleaner, build wise and signal wise. If you don't mind me asking, where did you buy yours from?
Glad you liked the video, thanks. I got this amp from seven eighteen electronics in NY, I’m not sure he sells them anymore I believe only Texas star now. 73
@@GroundControl204 I had a wild idea of putting one of these on 6 meters. Maybe it could be made to run on some of the lower ham bands. Thanks for the info!
Great video Ground Control. I know you said your 959 keys at 6 watt is it swinging to at least 30 watt? My manual says to obtain peak performance use 30 watts and not more then 35 my bearcat keys at 4 and swings to 15 watt so far getting 250 peak looks like I need to step it up haha was thinking of running down my Stryker 955 what do you think?
No more than 40 watts peak of drive before my amp was modded, after my mods I now drive it with 80 watts peak from the radio. The amp now does about 800 peak instead of 500. 73
To be honest with you, I would still choose the RM 703. They don’t get as hot as the TS500 and believe it or not the 703 is a lot cleaner on a spectrum analyzer as well.
Cool. I know there’s a thousand different options these days. I only use my stuff occasionally. I always herd Texas Star was some of the better ones but now with all the fake transistors I’ve been reading about I dunno. Then the Horror stories you hear about mosfets. Seems it’s about up to the user. Looks like you have a lot of nice equipment so wanted to get your opinion. Thanks man
@@bobbywhitt8830 The only horror stories about mosfets are radios operators over driving them, half these guys only know how to key up a microphone brother. Mosfets are way more efficient concerning amperage and a few other things. 73
Thanks for the great review video, I just ordered this unit from RMS radio supply out of North Carolina looks like they have a really good price at the moment. Just hope it shows up. I have a local selling his very good shape Texas Star DX 500, They want $500 for it said they are original owners since 1994. Decided to go with a new RM Italy instead. I still might try to trade him one of my high power ranger radios just to get that Texas Star though. 🎙73's
It was calibrated with a bird meter, the adjustment below zero is to compensate the fake watts that the peak kit reads on the MFJ.☑️ Nice try though little guy lmao, come back when you get a tech bench and actually know how to operate test equipment.🤣
@@GroundControl204 This question was right on time, just ordered this exact unit about 30 minutes ago. And I am running the new RCI 2995DX HP but I have the power switch to shut the amp down to 1 to 5 W dead key. With a 15 W to 28 W PEP bird...⚡️👍
Still rocking strong as a daily local talker, does nice for DX too. But when the going gets tough in DX land some times I bring out something bigger lmao. 73
I don’t want an amp this big, nor do I really want to have to send my radio out to I’ve the deadkey turned down. Would I be able to run my 980 bearcat thru this amps little brother the kl503hd? Without turning anything down inside the radio? Just looking for a little more ass on ssb in my mobile. Thanks mr 204
Thanks for the quick reply man! I’ll report back once I get around to getting one! My little barefoot 980 couldn’t cut thru the traffic on 38 lsb again today haha
@@ThePonyboy103 as long as the dead key on the 980 isn’t modded you can run that radio with the amp right out of the box. That 503hd will give you some decent peak wattage for sure and it’ll be a decent DX helper for sure. 73
