Good demo Rooster, i may look into getting one of those for the base & the 203p for my truck, would you need to run a low pass filter with them? Thanks in advance.
Some people do, but if it was me I wouldn't bother with the low pass filter

I run the full almost 4 watts from my President McKinley into my KL-503 with no problems. I got it off eBay for $150. It was advertised as brand new, never used. I saw all the drill marks on the top and thought they lied in the description, but seeing those same marks on your unit, I realize it comes from the factory that way.
Those are where the transistors etc are screwed in.
How was your 503 doing today two years later? I'm really thinking about ordering one and retiring my old 70s amplifier wanted to hear from somebody that's been running one for a few years specifically how's Side Band
@@trackpackgt877 It still works. However, it doesn't get much use. I live in a condo and can't have an 18 foot antenna set up so I am using a mag mount out on my deck. Not much CB traffic in my area of CT. Every once in awhile someone down south will hear me on skip. Either AM or SSB. But with my lame antenna, I don't get many contacts.
@@JoeR203 you should put it in your vehicle I don't have a base station either but I have sideband radio in my pickup truck and I make contacts all over the United States in it and locally everyone is on sideband. Thanks for the info brother

Only thing with these you really really got run low watts they do not like to get driven hard
I have a HYS 300 and on high it has no headroom unless you run the amp at a 1/4 watt. On low itll take about 2 to 3 watts.... Crazy low drive.
I do 2 watts swinging 28 does 300 w output.. get the HD you can drive them harder
I have the KL203P and it's an awesome little amp. Can't beat it for the money. Using it on my stock Uniden Washington.

I just ended up with a lil Rm kl 40. I wanted just a lil extra to punch through the noise . I have a stock Cobra 29 ltd that I turned up a lil. Would You happen to know if I should back it down before running into The amp? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thank You Sir

Good little amps, I have a KL400, it'll make around 300 to 325 on ssb with my dx2547.
If you hit these with a 3 watt dead carrier up to a 4 watt dead carrier these amps will easily deliver a clean 100 watt dead key and with an unmodified clean modulating radio you should expect a peak power of around 140 watts up to 180 watts that's not muffled or splattering everyone depending on how hard you drive the amp. For their price they're great small station amps!

@@SamuelBarrPhotography They are capable of putting out around 240 - 250 watts of RMS dead carrier but you wouldn't want to run them there on AM. I've ran mine at 200 watts RMS for hours talking on FM and I never had an issue but if you do run the amp near it's maximum ratings you have to place a small fan on top of it to keep it cool and it will work fine. If you run these amps around 100 watts - 140 watts of dead carrier on AM they will peak around 160 watts up to 180 watts on a normal unmodified clean modulating AM radio which is a great sweet spot for these amps to NOT be muffled sounding splatter boxes. On SSB you can expect around 180 watts - 200 watts too. I own three of these (One of their very early amps which is a 4 pill amp and 2 of these newer MOSFET amps. I've had mine for years and I have never had an issue with these amps whatsoever.)

@@SamuelBarrPhotography You're welcome... If you do get one of these amps, purchase a decent 30 amp power supply. I run mine off of a 12 volt deep cycle trolling battery along with using a small 15 amp maintainer/charger which keeps the battery topped off quite nicely.

Which one would you recommend on a cobra 29 with talk back and echo. It's good for 8-10 miles now, I just don't know what's all been done to it. Was given to me.

It is pretty neat you can buy one of these online. Back in the 80's, you had to 'know someone' or go to a shop that knew you.
Back then, Uncle Charlie actually cared AND had enough resources to care.
Not so much now. They still do make the occasional bust, almost always some big disrespectful base operator that people complain about for years before anything is done.
I don't know a thing about amps. I got a galaxy 959 doing 32w peak. So this would be ok for my radio ?? I just want a little extra juice for when I need it in my pickup truck. Will run barefoot most the time.

Stryker like other "exports" can be turned down to whatever you like... Why not use those? I have a President Richard that can be turned down to whatever you like as well.... You can set it for 1 to 8 watts if you like...
If you like to choke radios back, be my guest. My experience with strykers and others is the performance suffers when this is done, not just on the watt meter.
Just bought a Cobra 1K base. It looks brand new and hasn’t been hacked whatsoever. I have three Cobra 2Ks (only one works %100😄) but the 1K seems to outshine the 2K; Especially in receive. Your fault that I bought one😂😀. If you come across some clean Cobra speakers let me know. Thanks!

how about a president lincoln ii+ would that be a good radio for this amp.
Check your Lincolns output. Mine will drop to a 2 watt dead key and swing up to about 22 watts peak on a Dosy. I've seen some that only turn down to a 6 watt dk. Not so good. Also if tuned up seen peaks as high as 50 watts, also not so good for the kl503. If your on the low end like mine, the 503 is good. If yours is tuned high, get the 503hd. Rooster deals in both.
Awesome video, I know you addressed this but..I have a Uniden 980 SSB as a base station on a Tram 1498 . It runs on a pyramid power supply. Will this amp run , connected to the same power supply without any radio mods or adjustments? Thanks very much for your time ✝️🇺🇸🤙🏻🅰️

Will it do the full 450 on sideband? I don't ever see anybody test these amps on sideband I don't run Am anymore nobody's on it appreciate the video

Difference between a kl400 and a kl503 is about 15amps, probably more.
I got a 40w 6900n, only use 15w if that with a kl203 (100w), but I'm looking at the 400 (200w) over the 503 (250w), but thats me, my psu is only 35amp.
There is no kl-503p that i can find, is that a typo?
They don't make them anymore, just the 503hd and 503
I hit my kl203 with a 60watt pep President Ronald 10m export. Dk 1 watt swings 66peak. Been doing it for years. What kills them is high dk and swr. I use it as a driver for a 6 pill.
Lol and people wonder why amplifiers don't come with warranty 🤣. I know a guy that used to drive his 1x2 Fatboy with a 2995 doing 150 watts peak. Worked great until it didn't. Worked that way for several years but I wouldn't recommend it

What’s the best option for a kicker?
What's wrong with using a Stryker turned right down?? I use a KL203P sometimes with my 955-HP and on FM (am in UK) turn it right down to 4 watts and on SSB make sure it varies no more than up to 15 watts. Are these more sensitive than 203's?? I note only 6 watts all mode input.
It's a waste to buy a 100 watt radio, and turn it down, only to run with a 150 watt amplifier. Use the radio at its capable operating power and buy the appropriate amp, rather than cut the radio down.

I've got one of these amps. I never put more than four watts into it and I never use it over number 4. I've got two fans on top which switch on when the amp gets to a certain temperature

Can I use this amplifier on a icom 7300
no, the 7300 makes a power overshoot when keying up the transmitter, even when the power level is manually set low in the menue, that powerovershoot destroys external power amplifiers such as this one, even if the powerovershoot is for like only a second. can be that the amp survives that 1s overdrive, i wouldnt want to risk that.
Mr Rooster so i changed radios to one that does 100w and can drop to the required carrier and peaks, my question can i still keep the linear on line in the off position when running the radio at full power, and then drop the power when need to run the amp?
No, the bypass circuit will not withstand the 100w

i hook up my amp and some how it gose on with out the ground wire hookup only the ant^ s are connected and radio is that allright or is their something wrong the ant*s seem to ground the amp
Some amps will find just enough ground to power on through the antenna. I've seen that before.

Getting around 250 on SSB and around 170 pep on a.m. which works best with the power setting on three. Pushing about 12 on SSB and on a.m. 2 swinging to 8. No NPC MOD done on the radio. So I'm pretty confident I won't have any real heat issues
Interesting compatibility analysis. I've a question, I have a SS 3900G which has an EPT360013B pcb. It has twin finals and does a 13w on Am and 22 on SB. I was considering one of these RM Italy KL203 100w linear. My question is, would I be able to use it with my radio?
People do it all the time , but I would not use a dual final radio with one of these amps. You might be ok with output that low

I returned a Sirio Performer P5000 and ordered an Antron 99 18" antenna. Capable of 2000w. But I wonder if the receive is as effective as the transmit..
So aside from the 100w, how about a 70w linear?
@@MusicMinisterJP7 the reason I say not a dual final is typically a dual final radio will produce 35-45 watts peak easily on a bird 43P, which is the meter all of the amp companies and builders use as a reference. Most dual final radios produce considerably more than 25/30 watts.
@@Rooster_Radio This radio, when I bought it, it came with the VR13 Wattage control wired to a 10k pot w/knob on the side. I've pretty much always kept it low, bcuz in my area, whenever I cranked it up some, other locals would tell me I was stepping on them, and they would not be heard. But at night I used to like reaching out to farther stations. I mean having the Antron 99 antenna gave me the advantage of reaching islands in other countries. I've never had any kind of wattage or signal distance equipment to know this radios exact range. So if I did incorporate a 100w linear, I'd be keeping the VR13 close to the 4 or 5 watt range, until I can find a not so expensive watt meter.

2 versions of this amp. one has 8 mosfets and can take some drive. and then there is a low drive version that has 9 mosfets one as a driver...
this is not a bad amp. get rid of some current restrictions inside the amp and it will do 450 watts on 15 volts..these mosfets like current to wake up
