I've listened to this song probably 50 times already. It's exactly what I've always wanted from Alter Bridge. When that 7 string kicks in for the first time, it's just fireworks.
This song gives me vibes from multiple Alter Bridge albums and their Solo albums. I gotta say, this is the masterpiece of this album. Another Masterpiece in their collection.
I think this song has literally become one of my favorite songs ever. The feel you get in the first two minutes sets the song up beautifully. This highlights their progressive metal side a bit which i think they’ve done a fantastic job of showing in this song. That whole part in the second half “A fable of the silent son, a warning of the things to come” where Myles goes into full voice is just stunning. The drumming there is so good too with the panning in the headphones. Man, this song is incredible.
I've read some people dogging this song for being "too complex just for complexity's sake". Are they really listening to the same song I am? For eight and a half minutes long, this song flies by and I immediately wanna run it back! Blackbird is often the same way, it doesn't at all feel like eight minutes have passed. I had the same "too complex" complaint about Cry Of Achilles all those years ago even if that song is two whole minutes shorter than this one... Fable is arguably the greatest progressive track the boys have written since Fortress!
This is a perfect song for AB because it's more prog almost Rush-like. Come to think of it... A couple moments remind me of the Canadian gods of rock. That means I really like it.
I listened to the album prob 5 times last night and this is my stand out - it has everything that we love about ALTER BRIDGE !! Myles is unreal in his nuance and style and the last part is just straight amazing - saw a comment about it being the "Marching in Time" of this album and I tend to agree it really hits me in the feels ❤❤
I absolutely loved the title track when it was first released, and as the remaining three singles were released, I didn't get the same feeling, so I thought it'd be the best. The moment the intro to this song started during my first through-listen, I knew it'd be my favourite.
Great reaction gents. I am a prog rock/metal fan, and this song has everything I want in music from the melodic to heavy with great overall construction in the build and transitions. I don't really perk up to many songs getting released these days, but this track had me sat up and taking notice from first listen. Amazing piece from a great band.

What a bloody journey that song is. It has the feels... Once this sticks in the brain, there'll be no escape. Well played Alter Bridge. Myles sounds insanely good on this! The part where it says.."but it's over now, I've learned from my mistakes" is such a mood. Love it
It's weird that you said it was a hard listen, because this was instantly amazing to me. Maybe because I was reading the lyrics along with it... but this was immediately one of the best songs I'd heard in a long time
For me this is like Marching in Time, lot going on but once you find the through line it comes together beautifully, a super grower. Love the chorus now as well, and the trade off from Myles to Mark is always great as they do it sparingly so it means something. Now I just need my cd to show up so I can read the lyrics properly.
IMO Listening to this is not just listening, I’ve come to describe it as the “AlterBridge effect”, it’s probably better described as an epic experience. Lol 🤘🏻🤝🏼👊🏻

It's strange. This album is a pretty good one, but it still has some problems. That being said, this might be my absolute favourite song they've ever produced. It's unusual in structure, and yet it just hangs together so well. They let the ideas breathe a bit and develop, where in The Last Hero they might just introduce an idea and then immediately drop it. The atmosphere is so present throughout the whole thing and Myles is on top lyrical form and delivery is so emotional. You can tell this wasn't just brought in, they wrote it together. THIS is Alter Bridge. Heavy, melodic and hits you right in the feels. P.S. It was Myles first on the guitar solo.
I am SO HAPPY AB brought back the heavy on this album. I LOVE this album. And I'm thrilled to finally see these guys for the first time next March in Houston. Alter Bridge is my last "bucket list" band and I'm gonna get to see them in the 5000 seat 713 Music Hall in Houston! Walk The Sky had its moments to be sure but overall I personally wasn't thrilled with it. Pawns And Kings has brought back the AB I fell in love with back in 2004. Still, in MY opinion, few if any "modern" hard rock/semi-metal bands can claim the curriculum vitae of Alter Bridge from 2004 to now. They DEFINITELY ain't ..."just Creed with a different singer." 🤣

This is a masterpiece, definitely Myles influenced, this really sounds "Year of the Tiger" (ish) on steroids. That said, I fucking love it!
