It is glorious and majestic in its own way., It has military and royal airs about it. I can picture the Coldstreams or the Grenadiers marching in beat to this.
"He said, and I agree, that as long as the conductor is communicating the music to the other performers, he is doing his job." Well said. I strongly agree with your point.
I once had a conductor who conducted us by leaning forward, moving backward, etc. just for demonstration purposes. He said, and I agree, that as long as the conductor is communicating the music to the other performers, he is doing his job. By the way, I'd say that one of the most general (least restrictive) rule is that the conductor must stay on the podium, and our conductor here does that quite nicely.
I prefer this conductor's style to the facial grimaces that Leonard Bernstein used in his adhering to the musical norm. At least he isn't using a baton, and the performance is beautiful.
Originally, Handel had bass line parts written in the manuscript for the serpent, but he cut those out before the performance. Serpents were not used in the dress rehersal nor in the performance. The Bassoons of what I can see appear to be modern reproductions of Baroque Bassoons. Handel did write for Serpent for other works, however, so did Beethoven and Berlioz.
Look he`s a young man who is enjoying himself and they all seem to be with him as i did not know handel so had no way of knowing how he wanted this played i just enjoy the music/sound . . . .
That's the translation of what Fredelatorsion written: "Amazing version, a little "Military" with no doubt, but it's probably this way -seeing the circumstances- that this should be played. Great"
Actually it is easier than you think since most Baroque trumpets (a misnomer) have tuning holes to asist intonation as opposed to the original natural trumpets were the lips alone were used (and other aspects to lengthy to write in the comments). I agree, a very satisfying performance.
why cannot people just enjoy the music i am one of those working class poeple (a butler by trade) that love this for what it is amusic that was writen 250 years ago and still play . . .
Great video! Handel is my favorite and this is my favorite version of his Royal Fireworks Music. Does anyone know where you can buy a copy of this on DVD or CD?
by "unconventional", I mean that the conductor's style does not adhere to any musical norm for conducting and throwing all conducting rules and guidelines to the wind even the broadest, most general (i.e, least restrictive) rules and guidelines.
Sonorous, uplifting and regal music fit for a wedding or any special event Handel was truly a gift from God.

I had no idea they used to make contrabassoons straight. That thing is a beast!
Ohh!! La Rejouissance, what a beautiful work!!
Great performance and sound!

I like how the Contrabassoon adds depth to the whole piece.

The FIRST trumpet on the left! :)

Hard to believe that Mr King was 31 in this recording. he looks just out of school.

Fascinante!!!!
Grandiosa interpretación! Realmente único, Robert King dirigiendo a The King's Consort!!!
La Rejouissance is a lively piece which is probably the most played part of the piece on radio.
Radość!
OMG listen to that double-bassoon on Minuet 1!

I like this interpretation, it's very excellent!.
Interessante! Show de bola! Uma boa interpretação.

AWESOME!!!
Great. I love jazz.
Magnifique !
Indeed! Haven't seen it here though. The more Haendel, the better! Something with Zadok the Priest would be ideal.
And now it's used in an advertisement bashing Verizon.
Sir Charge!
Hearing "La Rejouissance", makes you want to learn how to play the trumpet.
Great video! Handel is my favorite and this is my favorite version of his Royal Fireworks Music. Does anyone know where you can buy a copy of this on DVD or CD?
i love the oboes in this peice
BTW, am I the only one who thinks John Williams is one of the trumpet players?
Handel is Glory
Didn't see one ophicleide or serpent horn so it must have been just the contrabass bassoon that provided the bass tones.
I believe the bassoons are modern and replace the serpents that H originally scored.
Ik begrijp het niet. Spreekt u het Engels, het Frans, of het Spaans?
ik ook!
then, we differ both musically and spiritually.
in what vein are you speaking?
Who are the trumpet players?
grootjes van belgië!
Jep - engels en frans. En jij?
by "in what vein", are you speaking sarcastically or seriously?
Robert King is GOD!
podria estar mejor, pero no esta nada mal

Very nice though the Conductor is unconventional.
I knew Handel. He'd have hated this. Hated it.
