    My love for classical music really took hold when I was in my early and mid 20s in the military, and I just couldn't get enough of it. And Handel's "Water Music" was a huge part of fostering that love which continues to this very day. I'm now 85 and my life has been enriched by classical music, symphony concerts, opera and operetta, musical comedy, etc. I could go on and on. I have sung in many opera and operetta choruses , was a choral singer for 31 years, and a church choir singer from my teens until just a few years ago. As I'm listening to and watching this terrific rendition, I am going through the memories of all the music I've listened to, watched, and been a part of myself... What a blessing!

      Same for me! I thought I hated "Classical Music" until I was 25 yrs. old. Somehow, I caught a performance of Handel's Water Music on the radio, and thought it sounded pretty good. Within days, I listened to Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #3, and I was hooked for life. Now, 42 years later, Mozart and Baroque music still provide soothing relaxation nothing else can.

I am sick of listening baroque music badly played by orchestras used to play music from 19th- and 20th centuries and doesn't know how to play baroque music even with modern instruments. • @PabluchoViision
      @PabluchoViision ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Based on the Allegro da capo Aria as well, I do think tempo is a problem in some of the movements. They are playing like their parking meter is about to expire. Anytime a matter of form is obtrusive--that's to say, really calls attention to itself, makes us think about it--such as speed, or rubato, or softness, or loudness--that's a sign that it's probably excessive. De gustibus non disputando est, I know... so this is just my two cents worth.

      I listened to the entire performance and it was WONDERFUL... The vigor, passion, and transporting joy marked by other listeners, were evident to me and deeply felt. Beethoven was speaking to an Englishman which is relevant.
      Haydn had told Beethoven two things for certain about England: firstly that Handel was semi-deified in that country; secondly, that he should go there to solve all his financial troubles.
      Beethoven’s comment was in the context of studying major choral works not only of Handel, but also JS Bach, Mozart, and Haydn whilst thinking about the choral section of the 9th symphony.
      Beethoven was pragmatically bigging up Handel in a way he would not have bothered doing to a German, French, or Italian, and I think what he said was a quite cynical ploy to try to say the right thing, and get financial support.
      Beethoven did consider aspects of Handel great, as he did of the others mentioned, he also thought Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia wonderful, and Cherubini his greatest living contemporary.
      In short, picking Handel out of this list, out of context, is misleading, even if he did use the actual words you mentioned.

    Händel was a splendid composer. Of course, I have this on my phone to enjoy in a split second! Don't be silly. What were you thinking? Jeez!

    De grands professionnels.
    Je n'arrive pas à m'arréter de regarder cette vidéo et, même si je dois faire autre chose, cette musique restera en arrière plan.
    Je n'ai jamais été aussi ensorcelé par une oeuvre musicale
    Grand merci pour le partage et un grand bravo à l'orchestre et à l'équipe technique

    Extraordinary concert of one of the top works of G.F. Händel who honors his memory with propriety and pleasant instrumentation, every time someone interprets music of this masterful genius of the Baroque, is to relive his magic and his great imagination that conquers us who sensitively we capture him, for his simplicity, for his humanistic quality , and know how to share with everyone, as in the first staging of the real fireworks, for all future generations, a sample of their ability to teach with their notes the origin of the universe and the true meaning of life. This was one of the first works I heard as a child that made me a fan of baroque music, especially Handel. Hearing the sounds of horns and trumpets I imagined myself flying through the sky through huge white clouds. What great memories!!!

      31:25 - 34:27 so much delicacy and sensitivity, very amazing ! I agree with you Felipe and feels the same as you with hearing this so lovely music when I was a child. "Water Music" is my preferred music and Händel one of my preferred composer... Starting to learn music and flute at age of 8, first year of flute exam with trying to modestly play Handel's "little walk" piece of music... :-) I love baroque music, especially Händel's music !

      At summer music camp this piece was always played over the PA as "reveille", so it is very nostalgic for me. The volume of sound from such a small ensemble is incredible, especially only two natural horns. Amazing.

    Eine so schöne Aufführung der Wassermusik habe ich noch nie gehört. Jedes der Instrumente kommt perfekt zum Vorschein, so klar und akzentuiert. Es ist eine reine Freude für den Zuhörer. Die Wassermusik und die Feuerwerksmusik waren für mich immer die Favoriten des Barocks, sie haben mir die Türe zur Klassischen Musik geöffnet. Herzlichen Dank dem Orchester und dem Komponisten Georg Friedrich Händel.

    A revelation - as if this classic music, so often repeated in performance & recordings - had never been heard before. Not just the smaller ensemble, but the special sound of the baroque instruments, is compelling: at once joyful &, in some sense, haunting in a positive way, connecting us to the universe (?), as we float down the Thames...

    • @myrddenbebopper3674
      @myrddenbebopper3674 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aside: The two trumpets are more modern "Baroque Trumpets" with vents at node points to change their fundamentals and make certain difficult intonations in tune without excessive "lipping". You can see that in the work of fingers and thumbs as they play.
      The horns are naturals, where the players have only their lips and bell-hands to adjust pitches.
      Still, the brass players are remarkable for their elegance and execution!

    ...bislang die beste Version, die je gehört habe!! ...Genauestens punktiert, scharf, hämmernd betont, emotional harmonisch, und endlich einmal ein Dirigent, der Kesselpauken zum richtigen ermunterndem Einsatz bringt, - und sich zu einem rasanten, nicht schläfrigen Tempo wagt .. grandiose Musik, die Spaß in höchster Qualität macht - und nicht müde. ...

    This is one astoundingly great performance! I just could not turn away. I especially loved the added diminutions here and there to give this music a little different flavor which makes this "old" music more alive. Any composers, like Handel, from the distant past if they came back today would be in tears of utter joy that their music is still played, and with such precision and beauty as does the Akademie.
