This was a good move. In fact, as someone looking to replace only one vehicle, a Lexus LX570, I think this Sequoia TRD Pro is a very respectable replacement.
@@kevingalls just a question why are u looking to replace it? I mean they are very reliable and would go 100s of thousand miles plus it wouldnt get much more depreciation in value as compared to a new sequioa which would lose a ton value after 3 to 4 years of ownership
Love it. I grew up with an ‘03, however the trunk space with the third row up is abysmal. A Grand Highlander or many other mid size SUV’s offer more space. Come on Toyota!
My 2002 Toyota Sequoia (Whaley) finally died at 310K miles. Just bought the new Sequoia and you are spot on! Looking forward to the next 300K miles in Whaley II!
@VloneUchiha has to be cause that's nothing. There's crap brands that can go 500,000. Toyota with Hondas have the lowest engine failure rates which is the most important reliability factor.
He’s teased this type of car in the podcast and videos before. He once mentioned he had a hybrid truck SUV ordered so it basically had to be a Land Cruiser, GX, or Sequoia knowing that. Since it seems third row space matters, idk why a Toyota SUV though since their third rows aren’t good
Oh YES, seeing people wanting to simplify their line-ups makes me really happy because I am at a stage (Or maybe I am just like that) where simplifying is the name of the game, I have lived for so long with so much stuff arround me that I have gotten fed up and realized having less is truly having more, so I am really happy for you Doug! Falken Wildpeaks are easily my favorite all terrain tires right now. Had a boss put them on our work pickup close to 6 years ago and now they're what i run on my personal vehicles. Nice ride on dry surfaces and great traction on snow and ice, especially for being all seasons and not snow tires
The engine coolant temp, engine oil temp, and transmission fluid temp are 3 different things. There's no redundancy in gauges and it displays the most info when you leave it set to "Tow Gauges".
We love our 2023 Sequoia! We call it the Beast, we have a Thule roof rack and bike rack. We have driven from TX to both Coasts, pushing 30K miles in 1 year.
Manhattan to Oklahoma in a day?? thats borderline cannonball run practice in a toyota land cruiser... edit: that statement then look at 14:11 is the most relatable doug has ever been
Did you ever film a video of the XC60? I understand not displaying it publicly during ownership, but it would’ve been neat to see a reflection on your time with it.
Family of 6. We had a sequoia for 6 years. It was a huge tank. Reliable and dependable. So roomy inside. The drivers seat needed to lower as my head was in the ceiling. Hope they fixed that. The storage space in the trunk wasn’t good. If you are going across the country you will need a roof rack or tow hitch box. Sold it for a new Sienna minivan. While it doesn’t off road or tow, it beats the sequoia in every other way. 3 times the gas mileage. 5 times the storage space. Smoother, quieter. Easier to live with with sliding doors and easier to park. Our other vehicle is a model x. Shockingly it is a perfect road trip car for 6. Tons of storage for soft bags. Great tech. Best self driving. Amazing windshield and oh it has 1000hp and goes 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. But no it alas is not an off road vehicle.
Same kind of thing in my family of 5 but with teenagers, 5 vehicles (including a fullsize Nissan Van for road trips) and everyone would rather pile in the Model Y... really does say a lot when I pull up at a supercharger and the car that shows up next to me has 6/7 people pile out of it while 5 pile out of mine.
@@jermwertythe audio system is amazing. The screen in the back of our x looks and sounds great for the kids streaming Disney plus. It is very quiet. Also the new fsd powered by ai is night and day difference. Our car drives us everywhere now. Safer as it is like a second set of eyes. Oh and the fact that is it one of the safest cars ever built. Really impressive. Makes it hard to buy other cars.
My wife has the Grand Cherokee L has about 22k miles on it now with no issues. Its lease so wasn’t too worried about reliability lol. That being said for what you are doing and need it for I think I’d like the Toyota also. That thing is a tank!
I don't know how Stellantis does it but you either get a car that'll last forever or one that gets cranky when it hasn't seen a mechanic for more than a few months.
@@kamX-rz4uylol right they definitely have a bad reputation but so do most brands outside of Toyota and Honda. I’ve had a couple Jeeps, Rams, and dodges and have been good meanwhile I had a new Silverado a few years back and needed major engine work after just 3000 miles!
I really really wish Toyota would make an extended version of the sequoia. I currently have a ford expedition max because I have 4 boys, 3 of them in travel baseball and we needed a lot of cargo space. If Toyota extended the sequoia I would trade in my expedition immediately. Always loved the sequoia!
This is my first time owning a full sized SUV and after driving the ‘24 Sequoia Platinum for the past six weeks, here are my observations. First the seats are firmer compared to the Expedition Limited and Infinity QX80. Gas Mileage 13-15MPG City 18-23MPG Hwy. it is more fuel efficient to use “Normal” mode when driving on city streets with stop and go traffic. Full tank on a road trip is approximately 450miles. The drive is very comfortable. There’s seems to be an issue with the power liftgate. If you opened the rear hatch and not made sure it was completely shut, you will have the error tone when using the liftgate. Indoor cabin is very quiet, ventilated and heated seats are very comfortable. The vehicle does not have the Toyota “Digital Key”but the Toyota App for remote start and lock/unlock works. I am unsure why it was not available. For charging your phones, this comes with both USB A and USB C ports. It doesn’t have the traditional “cigarette adapter”.
16:12 The right side gauges show engine oil temperature and transmission oil temperature. Default bottom gauges are engine oil pressure and engine coolant temperature.
I have driven my Rivian across the country twice and up and down both the east and west coast. You will find chargers, but you are correct. It would add a day with charging
Agree, the charging situation is reliable on the majority of routes, but definitely has more stops that would add a day to cross country trips. Been happy doing west coast road trips in my Tesla
I love the interior. I love that more manufacturers are getting a bit more creative with interiors. The camouflage trim on the outside is a bit odd though
I knew Doug was going to buy the Sequoia. I just pray he doesn't sell it after 2 years like the defender and also hope he does lots of off-road videos with it. It'd be cool to see him do it like he never did in the defender 110.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂😂

@@welmoepics That's either a big cap or a big red flag. Let's say he is driving fast, at max that's gonna cut an hour, maybe two. Still leaving 20 hours non-stop driving? So he either is capping or half the way he was a danger to himself and anyone around him. Red flag. Especially with a family to take care of. lol
Oklahoma is a big state. Google says 18h 51m to my stopping point, but keep in mind you're working with time zones when you're going west. So you pick up and hour and you go a bit above the speed limit; I think I did it in about 17.
I traded in my 2022 Suburban (lemon, had 5 trips to the dealer to fix issues in 5 months) for the new 2023 Sequoia (1 year with ZERO issues). I have two small kids, so the 3rd row works perfectly for my use case. It's also so much more fun to drive, it does 0-60 in 5ish seconds. I also receive compliments all the time. I've never had a car before that gets so many comments from people. It's also nice to have a car that you almost never see on the road.
Just got this ride we have 2 kids so it’s perfect if you got more rascals go up in size. I really don’t get the complaint on space when 3rd moves and folds and then you fold out the shelve and it flattens out. We went to Sam’s and what I usually put in my Silverado fit easily in the Sequoia . We traded our Mazda CX90 for this. Way more space, sits higher, great warranties and packages, hybrid system feels nothing like a hybrid. And the drive at 80-90 is still so smoothe far superior to my Silverado. Really don’t get the complaints 🧐
Buying the Jeep would be worse than the Rivian. Instead of adding days to your cross country trip, the Jeep would and months. It will break down both ways and you’ll be stuck waiting for parts and repairs 😂
@@DougDeMuro usually Chrysler bought Jeep from AMC. But hey, this is your choice on a Toyota, let see. Just hope it doesn't end up like the other Toyota you bought before. Waited years for my new Sequoia. Don’t love it. The Navigator was more comfortable, better drive, better space, better stereo, better gas mileage. That space in the back is a terrible design. Many of us are trading in for something else. Maybe you’ll enjoy. They “look” nice but that’s it…IMHO😊
I’m seeing this video about two weeks after its release, and I am very pleased with the choice. I just bought a Tundra after several Fords and a Chevrolet. Toyota is killing the game right now.
Can just do seat covers- I (ironically) put grey/black digital camp print neoprene seat covers in my Raptor b/c I have 2 dogs & 2 boys & they make a mess constantly in my truck & I want the leather seats to stay mint
We have a new Tundra that has less than a k on it out back right now that already needs a new engine. From what I hear from the MDT's they rushed the ever-loving hell out of those guys.
I’m sold just from the rear glass that opens. I owned an Expedition and opened just the back glass 90% of the time. Glad the Sequoia kept that feature.
No no no my friend…. This was not a good move…. It was a great move!!!! Love the new sequoias! They are beautiful and honestly always been a fan of them. I know people are ripping on the new Tacoma, tundra and sequoia for their hybrid motors but I am stoked to see how they play out and how they last! Excited to hear your long term thoughts down the road!
Best thing about Doug getting into off-road SUVs is his reviews will hopefully start pushing even more towards these. I expect one day he’ll go from calling things tough because they are red to explaining the actual specs and design behind them and the R&D that went into making them so robust. Then again, Doug’s the type of guy to sell a product based on its quirks then its quality. 😂
His logic is sound and he explains it in the video. Instead of taking two cars because his Mercedes-Benz can't fit four adults and two kids in car seats, take one car with a usable third row. It has modest off-road ability for when he goes to Nantucket. It's solidly built and reasonably reliable. This car serves the purpose of four aging used cars. A used one wouldn't have saved him much money so he got a new one with a full warranty.

I've loved mine. I just came off a 3 year lease and bought it.

Oklahoma is a big state. Google says 18h 51m to my stopping point, but keep in mind you're working with time zones when you're going west. So you pick up and hour and you go a bit above the speed limit; I think I did it in about 17.

Doug, the type of guy to buy a brand new Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro in an attempt to NOT be wasteful and silly.
