    I personally prefer the BRZ purely because the front graphics fix nicer with the overall design. I’d have mind in same blue colour as you. But would fit an after market bumper without the weird vents.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you mean the vents on the front bumper? GR has better lookin ones, but other than that BRZ looks bit better.
      Btw they're to help "wash away" the tyre wake, energize the turbulent air with more energetic laminar flow.

    The GR86 is my choice. I really like the big mouth and I think it would look 10x better with some lowering springs or coilovers to actually reduce the height. The front grille reminds me of the Yaris GR grille and I like that feel. My only complaint is that the GR86 front kinda tucks into the body more so I'd probably add a street lip kit to it

      Thing thing I do NOT like about the GR86 is the big mouth. Toyota showed a little constraint on this car such that they didn't ruin the whole design with the oversized grill like they have done on so many of their cars.

    Subaru all the way. IMO better suspension set-up and, more importantly, Subaru dealer techs are familiar with horizontally opposed engines. A lot of folks who did the recall of 1st gen cars to replace the valve springs (for free w/ a loaner car) had the Toyota dealerships do the work and it did NOT work out well.

  • @xxZigxx
    @xxZigxx 3 ปีที่แล้ว +29

    i like the toyota more. i think the design really benefits from a larger grill. i think the BRZ front end looks like it slopes down too much, like its steeper from hood to bumper. i agree though there needs to be some through lines in the side of the body, and the couple lines there are, are at weird angles. the rear i wish the ducktail was wider and came acrross the top of the tail lights more, just a bit. and that the tail lights were tied into the body lines more, like have the end of the tail light pointing into a line going through the tire to the body line that ran along the bottom and points up to the rear wheel.

    • @tomzandmicky8239
      @tomzandmicky8239 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. I want to like the Subaru, but the front end on the Subaru looks too ricer to me…front end on the Toyota looks cleaner and fiercer…the Subie reminds me of a Civic…and not in a good way. I don’t really care for the duck tail on either but have not seen one in person yet so…I wouldn’t let it stop me from buying but I’m sure I could be happy with either one. Currently I have a 2020 GT86 with 1900 miles so prolly will not be upgrading unless they offered me 30k trade in value, and zero down zero percent interest loan. That would push me over the edge.

  • @leevanf1070
    @leevanf1070 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Hi Bembli! Great call on extending the center/doorline! It makes the side perfect! Now personally, I own the previous BRZ, and I still think it looks better than the new generations because the previous gen had all the hallmarks of a classic sportscar look. I am so saddened by the removal of the "horns" (the elevated bumps on the two front fenders above the wheel wheels that gave it classic sports car vibes (GT2000, Stingray) . Plus, the overall rounder lights and front end made the car look chubbier rather than sleeker. It looks like a modern Porsche/C-Class. Lastly, the back just has way too much more elements for me! The taillights are complex in both shape and elements, plus that black line REALLY creates an unnecessary element that makes the spoiler look uglier. Like it was glued onto the car rather than organically part of it. You can imagine it would look as good as the new Supra's ducktail if you edit out the black line! Now that being said, for this new generation, I actually think the 86 looks better because it captures the "simple RWD lightweight sportscar" image better. The Subaru's front end has way too many lines, elements, bends + counterbends that make it look so busy. The front vents look less like intake vents and more like exhausts! (that shape would look good at the back of many cars!). The smaller grill on the BRZ as well makes it less sporty and looks pretty much like many road cars. Well thats all for me! I wish you could show us a sample of the new BRZ, in white, with a deleted black line behind (maybe vinyl wrap it??) That would be awesome!

    • @tomzandmicky8239
      @tomzandmicky8239 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amazing. I agree with every point you have made here! I actually owned a 65 Stingray for awhile and the first time I sat in the 86, looking out over the hood I was immediately reminded of the stingray. Unfortunately, that’s where the comparison ended. Nothing can match the sound/feel of the small block Chevy V8.

    I think for a lot of us deciding is really going to come down to which dealership you have a better relationship with. I’ve never owned a Subaru. My local suburu dealer is terrible. But My family has bought 4 Toyota’s from the same dealership. So I’ll probably go with the white premium mt6 gr86 in halo white. But I honestly feel like the brz in silver is the nicest looking one in videos I’ve seen. That finish combined with the front bumper design just seems more grown up, more expensive, maybe because it looks more Porsche inspired.

    I think that the Subota is a great sport car, being a rear wheeled-drive coupe with a manual gearbox; just like the Nissan Z and the Toyota Supra but between $10,000 to $30,000 less expensive. I wish that Toyota and Subaru would at least differentiate the two cars with unique sheet metals, like the Honda Civic/Acura Integra, or the Mazda MX 5 and the defunct FIAT 124 Spyder. Having said that, I would choose the one with the Toyota badge but in the gorgeous Neptune Blue color. Otherwise, I would choose either one depending which dealership would give me the better deal.

    I also thought the GR86 looks a lot higher at the front end compared to the BRZ and it just doesn't look very sporty. I do prefer the less fussy front intakes of the GR86 though - they look almost exactly like the 370Z Nizmo. Then again you can only get the BRZ in WR Blue! I wonder if lowering the car a bit might help the GR86 look much better.

    Previously I liked the original Subaru BRZ styling more and as an add Toyota mucked it up with the very last update of original 86.
    This time it's the Toyota subdued, simpler approach with the fascia ( looks more planted and w/ that bit of an aggro feel ) that makes it better.

    I'm looking at it for the reason it is made, to track it. These 2 are on my list. The lines you don't like are designed for airflow on track. I'm interested more in the handling because I just saw a Japanese video saying the Toyota is more tail happy in corners. I want to know if they are using same tires and suspension. Also I like the simple stuff without all the heavy computers nannies in all cars now. I will have to go with manual transmission to avoid the safety feature that are not good on track.

      Oversized grill doesn't really make it more aggressive. But I would take the GR86 in a heartbeat if they just shrunk the height of the grill. I think the GR86 front looks better except the sheer size of the grill on the GR86 is too big. Just do the height of the BRZ grill (and keep the rectangular look and everything else) on the GR86 and it would be awesome.

    I’m getting the 86 because 1. The premium comes with a duckbill spoiler. 2. The front looks way better.

    I like the BRZ better. It looks more tight and smaller and more together if any of that makes sense. Somehow the Toyota looks a bit bigger and about an inch or two longer. I think more people like the gr86's front bumper but I like the BRZ. Sleek is the word I'm looking for. The BRZ looks sleeker in my eyes.

    • @JordanMarzz
      @JordanMarzz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Probably because Toyota is probably the better JDM of the two. Subaru has the wrx, but after that every other car is ugly

    • @kevindepew8193
      @kevindepew8193 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JordanMarzz And just about EVERY Toyota today is ugly. Toyota doesn't know how to design a front end anymore. Whether it is a Lexus or a Toyota, their goal is to put a gigantic, oversized grill on every car they make. They look like crap. This Toyota GR86 is the only front end that doesn't look horrid. The GR86 would look way better if they had simply lessened the height of the grill a little bit, but at least it still looks pretty good with the slightly too big grill it has. The Corolla, Avalon, Mirai, and Sienna all look like they are going to swallow you whole with their gargantuan (mostly fake) grills. They have improved the Camry front to look a little better. If Toyota would re-learn how to design front ends, their cars would be great.

  • @clwgq5843
    @clwgq5843 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’m an 86 fan since the bigger grill makes it more clean instead of the brz that just has 1 medium sized grill, 2 side intakes, and another black piece on the spoiler that makes it look like another vent. The 86 on the other hand just has a decent sized grill and 2 smaller side intakes, so yea i think the 86 looks better, like this comment if you agree or reply if you think different

  • @mark-qi6di

    Very interesting. I have been considering the design of these two cars a lot. I never thought about the line you added on the door though, probably would let it slant down towards the back and not just horizontal, and also not make the crease so strong. Personally, I like the Toyota front design more, too much going on in the Subaru, but I like the Subaru's front lights better, though it wouldn't blend with the Toyota's front end. The best view of the car is the side view. The back view doesn't give me that "squat" impression enough, possibly due to the plastic cladding that pulls too high. I would change that. Would appreciate your thoughts more on the back end.

  • @4thManonCross

    The BRZ is more softly sprung for everyday driving and more stable in the corners as Subaru All wheel drivers arer used to, but as a downside oversteer/tail slides creeps on you in a suprising, stable until its not kinda way. The BRZ is more firm/ sporty for everyday driving, and progressively/gradually in an easy to manage way enters drifts/oversteer/ tailslides, both cars have similar limits, but the BRZ breakaway in a snap, but the Gr86 does so playfully, that's what my research uncovered, in that sense I'd choose the GR86, styling wise I also prefer the Gr86, these cars are the last hurrah before the electrics take over and will be rare expensive classics like the s2000

    You have a good eye and I really like the change that you made to the front fender panel and door. I'm not as convinced with the rear. It is a bit more difficult to visualize. I think that you are on the right track by trying to simplify the two curves but the crease that runs into the corner of the tail light seems too high. I would prefer it lower and more rounded, not that any car can duplicate a 911's rear haunches, but give it a bit of that type of treatment.

    The mechanicals-if at all different - will be imperceptible to the driver. The front ends are both appealing (to me) and I go back and forth on which one I prefer. The duck bill rear spoiler is more prominent on the Toyota (comparing higher trim levels of both cars) and I prefer the doors in the cars for sale vs the suggested tweaks in this video.
    One thing that tends to make me lean toward Subaru vs toyota is authenticity. Though it’s a joint venture, there’s way more contribution by Subaru to this vehicle than from Toyota.
