Based on what I have seen in this video and others of Nidar Singh it looks to me like Sanatan Shastar Vidya favors a style of footwork that uses lots of small steps to allow for fine adjustments to angulation and distance rather than the longer half-lunges that would be used in German longsword. This is somewhat similar to the Spanish art of Verdadera Destreza (example here
th-cam.com/video/GFroPGvc5dc/w-d-xo.html) which also prefers to keep its footwork tight and precise, although they are different in that while the Gurudev is using his footwork to void cuts and close distance Destreza fencers use theirs to control the bind and maintain optimal thrusting distance. I think it is important to note that none of the three footwork styles I have mentioned are inherently superior in general but only in their specifics, so while the German footwork can't keep up with the pace with which Nidar Singh changes direction the latter only covers about half the distance with each step as would be possible for the longsword fencer.
To extend the different-but-similarly-effective argument a bit further, in the video you repeatedly see Nidar Singh with his tulwar close in and "cut" the longsword fencers before they are able to react and defend themselves, which makes sense as this is his seminar and he is there to demonstrate his techniques. The reason the fencers are struggling to defend themselves is not because Deutsches Fechten doesn't work against Sanatan Shastar Vidya but because often times the longsword people are in the wrong distance. From about 7-8 minutes into the video there are several times where Nidar Singh and one of the fencer start within cutting distance of each other but the fencer choses to try and come into a point forward guard rather than attack. As soon as he starts trying to do this action that takes time but does not actually present a threat the Gurudev has all of the opportunity he needs to close the distance and cut because the fencer is pretty much achieving nothing other bringing his throat closer to Nidar Singh's sword. If the fencer instead went straight into a cut or formed his guard going backwards (and thereby creating enough distance to actually make his point threatening rather than something that can be easily controlled) the Gurudev would have to do a much more complex action to safely come forward which would in turn give the fencer the chance to actually parry and repost, although I think in the end the exchange would still go to Nidar Singh in the end just based on how long he has been practicing and teaching his system. Long winded martial arts rambling aside, it was a cool video and it's always great to see different styles interact with each other.

Many of the older videos detailing this style aren't very convincing as to its actual combat effectiveness, but having looked up this more recent video, I'm starting to see that these teachings may have potential!

Its all bullshit. They got payed.
If you study Wing Chun or other martial arts, you will see that this "SANATAN SHASTAR VIDIYA" is just a bunch of stolen techniques from other martial arts, as if he youtubed techniques and then pretend that its from his own martial arts.
Sad that people dont understand this. lol
