  • When does it make sense to do IVF instead of first starting with a less invasive treatment such as IUI? It depends!
    There are certain instances when a fertility doctor may recommend IVF over alternative fertility treatments. A lot of it has to do with your age, infertility diagnosis, and how that translates to success rates for each treatment.
    Here Dr. Matrika Johnson of Reproductive Specialists of the Carolinas tells us what factors would cause her to suggest going straight to IVF and skipping IUI to help you get pregnant faster.

    What is recommended for those who may be over 42. And would you recommend they use their own egg or a donor?

      Hi! It is definitely an important conversation to have with your doctor. Some people choose to move forward with their own eggs first but consider donor as a backup while others go straight to donor because the success rates are much higher for this age group. I'd definitely recommend checking out our IVF success rate video where we look at the live birth rate for women doing IVF over 40 with their own eggs and we then look at success rates using donor egg. The current data shows the singleton live birth rate is essentially 7.5% vs 42% if using frozen donor eggs. I hope that's helpful! I have PCOS and my cycles are very irregular so I won’t even bother w iui

      Women with PCOS have the highest success rates with IUI compared to other infertility diagnoses! They give you medications during an IUI cycle that cause you to ovulate! Your doctor will likely make a recommendation for your specific situation but that might be helpful to know!
      You can search fertility doctors to consult in your area here if you haven't already found one: fertilityspace.io/search
      Here's some extra info about IUI in case you want to research a bit more:

    What if you only have 1 blocked tube do you think you can still do iui

    • @fertilityspace
      @fertilityspace  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can still do IUI if you choose. Your other testing and your age might mean that your doctor will suggest a different treatment, it depends. Women with one open fallopian tube have shown to have lower IUI success rates than women of other diagnoses, such as. endometriosis and PCOS. I'd suggest you check out our IUI guide where we have a section comparing the success rates of women with different diagnoses to learn more! @@dominiquewyatt6704 Great question! If you'd like to conceive on your own but have been having difficulty doing so, you would still want to get testing with a fertility specialist so they can check to see whether any fertility issues need to be addressed. You can look up fertility doctors in your area here: fertilityspace.io/search

    You go straight to IVF by avoiding IUI , when you have lots of money and time to waste to feed doctors.
