Crystal I’m in my 40’s and I also prefer to look somewhat put together when flying, rather than looking frumpy. I find that adding a third layer (jacket, cardigan, sweater, scarf, etc.) is a great way to elevate a travel outfit while still being comfortable. I loved all your outfit ideas! Now I can’t wait to do some traveling! ✈️🚢🚙
I try to avoid white when traveling. Too many times I spilled something or brushed up against something which left marks. I try to use dark colors but add color with scarf cardigan or blazer

I saw someone wearing a pink onesie to board their flight the other day. Literally, a onesie. This person was easily in their 30s. WTH?? Anyway, I always dress nicely. I have found over the years you’re always given better service when you look, and act, put together.
Reminds me of Ralphie from A Christmas Story and the bunny outfit his aunt sewed for him and how his dad said he looked like a deranged Easter bunny!
I don’t like wearing super-casual things when flying, either, like sweats. It is possible to make nice outfits with comfy, stretchy clothes that aren’t gym wear.
My family also has TSA precheck and every time we go through security (which takes about 5 minutes), my husband and I both say, “Best money ever spent.”
Smart strategy for travel outfits! Sneakers are such an important feature to negotiate airports, especially when hurrying is required, and they keep feet protected and warm when the plane gets cold. I learned the hard way how NOT to dress for travel when I was flying to Europe every summer!!
I just got back from Jamaica. I made the same comment to my husband that it looked like many people just rolled out of bed and came to the airport. I also agree with you about not feeling comfortable wearing leggings as pants. Great video!

I appreciate your video. I am dating myself, but I am horrified at most Americans dress. So embarrassing. I don’t fly domestically, but I can always spot Americans on international flights. It amazes me that they don’t realize how out of place they look. As you demonstrate, you can be comfortable and stylish. I find myself wondering about what happened to home training. My daddy said “Surprise. Don’t advertise.” Your outfits are great. I would add a scarf.
You will never get a upgrade unless you dress like you belong in first class.

My hubby and I always like to fly dressed up but still comfy. We got upgraded to business class on British airlines from Heathrow to home on a 10 hr flight. I’d like to think that because we’re dressed up.

I recently bought the Zella joggers. I agree the completer piece makes the outfit. I love your ideas. Last time I was flying all you see on many women are leggings. Not a good look.
I love slip-on sneakers, I think they look smarter than lace-ups. Plus, they’re great for going through security checks, so easy-off and -on. I agree, the third piece is essential for looking put together. When it’s hot, I wear a super-lightweight viscose or linen knit sweater, they never overheat me.
I love the slip on sneakers too! I've gotten in the habit of wearing a pair of 'orphan socks' when flying (those are socks that have absolutely no match and that you know the other one has been eaten by the laundry gremlin.) I had the unfortunate experience about 10 years ago of stepping through the TSA x-ray tube after a very nervous pet had gone through. My mother taught us to always watch where you're stepping, but it was Christmas, EVERYONE was rushing and crushing and I didn't. The owner apparently only had a half a tissue and needless to say, it wasn't cleaned as well as it should have been.
I went through and promptly threw my socks in the trash and baby wiped my feet. I had to unlock my suitcase and unzip my undergarment packing cube to get another pair. But from that moment on, I wear an orphan pair over my regular socks and also carry a pair in my personal item. When I get to the bench on the other side, I throw the orphan socks away and simply leave on my good pair underneath.
I'm also a consistent light sweater/cardigan carrier and a breathable cami wearer. 10-year survivor and I've had to learn to ward off the slightest chill or I'll start to spasm. Very uncomfortable in trying to get it under control so I got into the habit my first year of always having one. It's an automatic part of me: keys/purse/phone/scarf or light cardigan. ;o}
My go to travel outfit is a nice black knee length skort, a short sleeve white blouse and denim jacket. I wear the skort with tights on the plane and when we arrive at our destination I take off the tights switch my Bob’s flats to sandals and I am totally ready for anything. It’s also very easy to pack tights and flats into my purse/backpack.
I was traveling with a group one time and when we got to our destination our hotel rooms were not ready so we decided to all go out for lunch.
It was really funny to see most women go through their suitcases in the concierge room (where we dropped off our luggage) to try and find something to wear. The hotel lobby only had two washrooms and they had to line up with their clothes and their makeup bag in their hands to go change for lunch.
It took forever for those women to get ready and it was like that for the rest of the trip.

Love your channel! I love seeing my fellow 'seasoned sisters' pulled together! I've had major surgery so I always carry a third layer (whether a light sweater, scarf, or cardigan) so I'm never caught off guard. I've always loved classic clean pieces that never go out of style.
Hubs says the song "Everybody's Crazy about a Sharp Dressed Man" (ZZ Top) also goes for women. He loves that he knows wherever we're heading, from casual to formal, there's no question I can pull it together. Less is more and classic pieces will never go out of style.
We're prepping for a road trip to the coast and it feels wonderful to know that I'm on the right track for our summer getaway. I love capsule wardrobing (basically what you're doing) and being able to switch up in a moment's notice for our itinerary when we get to our destination. I also love not having to change an entire outfit when we arrive if we want to catch a sunset or take a short stroll to stretch. Just add a scarf add/take away an accessory (I usually travel in silver so when we get wherever, I don't have to think about the jewelry), switch up shoes, and voila! We're ready for our first day's excursion.
In addition to packing by wheely traveler with packing cubes (LOVE them so I can organize to the hilt!), I also pack a set of loungewear and toiletries in my 'personal' item (fits in the smallest packing cube) so I can shower the 'road/flight' off as soon as I'm in the hotel, and take a little nap if we want.

I'm watching this a year after you put it out (how did I miss it?!), and it's perfect timing. I'm flying to FLL soon for a cruise, and my go-to is a pair of nice joggers, t-shirt, and lightweight cardigan. I knew I'd likely have to change into shorts as soon as I got there (going from cold at home to a much warmer destination), and didn't want the extra step. Seeing you in the midi dresses gave me a whole other idea, so thank you! That will work much better.

Great video! Wish more people would make an effort while traveling. We fly to Mexico a lot, and I get downright embarrassed at the way people dress going on vacation to a warm place. Tight see-through leggings, bra tops, flip flops, and so often on really overweight people. One suggestion I find helpful - on longer flights compression knee high stocking are a good protection from blood clots. I wear them with white slip on classic Keds, and when we arrive its easy to slip the hose off and just wear the Keds.

You are so good at this!! I try and follow your recommendations when we travel but I never feel like I quite pull it off. I really appreciate your advice.
I learned early to get in the habit of trying on my travel items off season/months before the trip to make sure things still fit in case I need to replace anything. I found many of my friends would only pay attention to the dressier options for our trip, but when it came to the more casual items, they assumed things still fit. They realized at the last minute the items had stains or hadn't been laundered properly. (perfumes and natural oils sometimes don't emerge until they've been laundered and we may not realize it until months later. I also do NOT use any laundry detergent that is blue. I've found that sometimes the detergent doesn't wash clean and may spot my whites.)
By checking your basics, you know what needs replacing and you're not scrambling and spending $$ unintentionally. We're in the thick of summer and it's almost impossible to find a simple white fitted tee even in Walmart! Glad I snagged one in April when they first put them out!
I also use the weeks before (or right when the seasons change) time frame to basically have a fashion show in the mirror. I take a couple of Saturdays/Sundays and block off about 30-45 minutes and try on things then I accessorize in my mirror. This helps me to know what needs replacing (either because I've outgrown (either by weight or by style) and/or I can ensure nothing is stained. it also gives me opportunity to see what undergarments/camis/tanks need replacing. I call my closet 'The 2nd Level' There's NEVER a line to try things on, everything is free, and I can spend as much time as I need! ;o}. I can bend, stretch, put items that no longer fit for me right into a donation bag and I can see if anything needs mending, buttons tightened, etc.
I'm also not rushed, I can mix/match accessories, look through totes/and handbags that I either know I'll still use or donate, and this also gives me a great option to know what materials no longer suit me and what outfits work for which seasons. It's also fun!
I use scarves (from neckerchiefs to narrow to wide body, depending on the season) to accessorize anything. I'll wear a neckerchief on a belt loop to snazz up a monochrome look or on a handbag to give a pop of color or even braid it as a belt. I look through my earrings and see what has multi uses for outfits for the trip as well and also see what sandals/shoes/boots/sneax may need to be retired and/or replaced. This way, when the season hits, I'll know what to look for and can keep an eye out before everything is gone.
Try the fashion show in the mirror beforehand. It also gives you that little 'umph' to see yourself beforehand so you'll know what to expect and what you feel comfortable in but also what ideas pop up with what you already have to make you pull it together.

Totally agree with you about everything but especially the way people dress at an airport! It doesn’t compute with me. Your going on holiday (well majority) and for me it’s the start of your holiday right from the airport. I put a lot of thought into what to wear. This will be my first cruise for my 60th so planning what to fly in, what to wear to board the ship etc just as you have shown (great minds think alike!) having capsules that mix and match is a must. Great video thank you. My only concern is what to wear by the pool on ship that hides my upper arms and stomach 😕🤭🤷🏻♀️lol 🛳💞🇬🇧

Good video. I like to look like I care when I travel. One of our last flights was late then got held up again for a woman in pajamas wrapped in a blanket with 4 bags and a terrible attitude. It was hard not to start laughing🥴

I gave up jumpsuits in the 80's. I used to live in them. I had a fab royal blue jumpsuit I wore when traveling overseas that i bought for work. Went to Bahamas on vacation wearing it (to be cute) but made mistake of wearing goldtone fishscale wide belt. Set off metal detector, TSA took me aside, searched me, then searched my giant suitcase. Never again. Going to pee was also a process....tfs

Thank you for all of this: do you always feel comfy having an open topped bag as your under the seat bag? It always makes me nervous so I almost always try to use something that zippers closed.
It doesn’t bother me. If I use my Neverfull it does have a clip in the center that helps. I’ll also place a scarf on top so nothing falls out.

I always give sizes either by saying them or in the description area next to the item. In this case, items may be older and I’ve recommended a similar alternative that I do not know sizing. Always refer to the size chart on sites, that helps me.
100% with you on leggings no matter the person's age. Girls need to start learning how to wear leggings properly in elementary school so once they reach puberty it is already trained into them.
My current favorite pants are jean leaning jeggings and Eileen Fisher crepe pants that feel like yoga pants but are nice enough for an office. "Comfortable but put together" is my goal for my entire wardrobe as I transition from t-shirt and jeans to nice adult clothing.
Leggings are not "adult clothing". I wore plenty of leggings growing up in the 90s, hand me downs from my cousins who grew up in the 80s, in lots of fun colors. They were almost always too cold, got wet and didn't dry quickly, and chafed. I'm sure, now, Lululemon and Atheta and probably Eileen Fisher too, make quality leggings, but they're not more "grown up" clothes 🤣👌.

I think you have good ideas. Especially on your comments about not being too casual. I think in our society that people have become way too casual and they are just making the sport clothes industry richer. A lot of people wear sports clothes that never even go to a gym. I only wear some sport clothes if I’m going to a gym. And a pilot once told me that when you’re flying it’s best not to wear synthetic cloth like nylon and spandex. I personally find that 100 % cotton, silk or wool are so much more comfortable because they breathe. Synthetic materials do not breathe. Synthetics are made from plastic. I also like to wear very comfortable dress shoes opposed to tennis shoes to travel. I find that the SAS shoes especially the Maria style are the most comfortable and even more comfortable than tennis shoes for me.

I love this! I have been trying to be more consistent in packing for weekend trips to San Diego & longer trips to visit family. It has made packing so much easier to stop fussing and using my “go to” outfits that work. I was glad to see the jacket as a staple. I use them at home (in the winter) and that would definitely pull things together. Do you keep jewelry packed or choose new items every time?
I wear my staple pieces like simple stud earrings, necklace, bracelets and wedding ring. I'll then pack earrings and other items based on what clothing items I'm packing. I have several other packing videos in the playlist linked at the end of the video that may help.

Lots of great ideas here to be comfortable but yet pulled together while traveling. You make a really good point about thinking about where you are going to end up and who you will see when you arrive at your destination and dressing for that. I'd love to see a couple of these outfits with an alternative to the denim jacket.
