    I swear by my Superga Classics as well for the airport! They are the heaviest footwear I carry in my hand-carry so naturally I wear them on my feet. They go with every outfit I pack.

    As an Asian man, I wear a Mandarin suit. Very comfortable. No ties required. I wear loafer shoes - not bedroom slippers. If airplane crashes and everyone survives, I don't want to be caught wearing bedroom slippers on the runway running away from the plane.

      I wouldn't worry about slippers - nobody's gonna know what human tissue they belonged to.

    My father is a retired airline pilot. We always dressed nicely when we travelled standby when I was growing up because we were “representative of the airline”. I never quite got over that, and I’ve never been able to be “schleppy” when I travel. Good to see others with the same type of travel “uniform” 😎

      The clothes that airlines require their employees and employees of other airlines to wear can vary from airline to airline and class you are flying. I know my husband and I got 2 first class seats from Hou to CUN. At the time he was a Delta Connection pilot. We were given the first class seats over an employee and travel companion because the travel companion’s outfit didn’t meet the requirements for first class.

      I became an Airline employee in 1970. I worked for three different airlines, and then eventually for two major travel agencies. Over 40 years of non revving. I love dressing up. I loved having my kids all dressed up with my son in a sports jacket beginning at age 18 months old through his early twenties. My daughter always in dresses. When the airline's relaxed the dress code, due to the general population dressing down so we would blend in, I didn't like it.

    I agree with everything Jen says about choosing flying outfits and want to add my $0.02. I pick tops and pants for the plane that will not easily show spills, drips, or crumbs. Because the airline blankets are usually dark & fuzzy, I also avoid clothes that are light-colored or lint magnets. Final tip for any flight longer than 4 hours: COMPRESSION SOCKS. The light pressure socks are comfortable. Your feet, ankles, and calves will feel better even if swelling is not an issue for you. If your feet and ankles tend to swell on long flights, then wear the next step higher in compression. You can wear compression socks under your regular socks, and then remove at the end of the flight if a warm weather destination.

      I'm a bit surprised her pilot husband did not tell her about safety in air travel clothing. One should wear only organic fabrics like cotton, wool, etc. If there is a fire, synthetic fabrics will weld to the skin and cannot be surgically removed as can organics. (Other tips: most accidents happen in landing or near runway--the plane breaks apart, those near the front are nearest the engines and the fracture point, so try to reserve seats in the rear of tbe plane. Get out as fast as possible--unbuckle yourself first and a dependent child only after you have the mobility to save both of you. The tiny flame or smoke puff you see up nearer tbe engines becomes an all-consuming fireball within mere SECONDS (remember the damaged oxygen containers on board)--if you don't risk broken bones by jumping ASAP to the tarmack, you will likely be incinerated. Except for securing your child, a crash landing is not the time to try to aid any of your fellow beings--altruism will almost surely cost you your life...

      @starrbowie8649 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SandwichLady If clothing for plane travel is the subject and the author says nothing about the relative safety and dangers of certain fibers/materials, I think it's unconscionable not to try to warn people. I can see your point with regard to the other safety tips being off-point, however. Decades ago, soon after a couple of horrible crashes on airfields, a mainstream newspaper ran an article with all the points I raised, so I have grouped them in my mind. Also, I haven't seen any of these points raised since then in any popular forum, so I thought I might as well mention them. If the writer's husband did inform her, why didn't she consider cautioning her readers? Comfort, attractiveness, and safety are not incompatible qualities in clothing. While I can see your point about the tips not all being directly on the subject, I am somewhat puzzled that you dismiss the tip about safe CLOTHING and that you can only fault me for taking the time to type out info that I clearly intend to help protect people with. Were you aware of the info I conveyed before reading my comment? Do you think it is commonpllace? If you can say "yes," your reaction makes more sense to me. I would be glad to know that many people are aware of these factors in plane travel--I just haven't seen it. If you would answer "no" to my two questions, I think you might benefit from considering why you emphasize what values motivate your objections, which include no acknowledgement whatsoever of my clear intention to possibly save lives.

    This is going to sound weird but when I have a long flight I like to wear black scrub pants and a long sleeve tee of some sort. Then I layer my favorite cardigan. I also think that dressing nicely on a flight offers respect to the flight crew, not unlike dressing nicely to meet a friend for lunch. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mean that you should pull out a cocktail dress, but wearing dressed up casual. Looking like a bum doesn’t earn you any brownie points anywhere.

    My airplane outfit is always the same. A cotton tshirt dress. Leggings underneath it. A lightweight open cardigan. If it gets hot cardigan and leggings come off. If traveling to Orlando so much easier to take leggings off under a dress than change into shorts. Also I won’t wear anything that you have to take off by pulling over my head. I wear compression socks as helps swelling. Going show my Filipina wife your video. She 6ft and slim 40yo. I do n8t ever tell what wear. She likes shorts and short skirts. I grew up when men wore suits and women wore dresses, stockings and heels for travel. While societal norms have changed, I agree hygiene is an issue when someone has a sleeveless tee shirt and body odor, or a crop top, short shorts and flip flops, and with everything exposed. That being said, I appreciate your selections, except for the shoes. I have heard leather soled shoes are safest when traveling. Sharp objects, spills, and worse, plus emergencies they offer best protection. I always have a blazer, with pockets, light weight for warmers climates and heavier for cold. I always have a scarf. Yes, it's good for the cool breeze against my neck, but also for the seat backs and what they harbor. I don't wear jeans, preferring slacks with deep side seam pockets. I may be considered old fashioned, but I have been upgraded to first class and don't feel out of place.

    Just happened on your channel and love your content and personality! Will be binge watching other videos! As a former (VERY former, probably from your father's era) flight attendant, I would add to the NOT to wear list FLIP FLOPS!!!!! Soooo gross and bad in an emergency situation.

    I can remember flying to Italy with my grandmother and every single time my mom would book the bulkhead because "extra leg room!" and every time people would line up for the bathroom and my grandmother would yell, "a--es in my face! All 9 hours, a--es in my face!" So thank you for reminding me of that.

      @@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge This was also perfectly timed because I am taking a red eye next week and my plan was basically pajamas for the plane and then change in the first airport bathroom I get to. I used to do it in the airplane bathroom but after the horror of my pants touching the floor I can't do that again.

    Being warm is important for me. The trip is uncomfortable because of the cramped seating, being cold doesn't help. One flight I spilled my drink and when I went to sop it up it was frozen to the carpet. That's how cold it was!

    It amazes me how many people wear shoes such as flip flops on a plane. If you have to evac that plane in a hurry, you really want closed toe shoes that will stay on your feet. Also, I don't like walking through TSA even with socks. I pack little painters' booties in my carryon that are quick and easy to slip over the socks.

    • @erinlikesacornishpasty4703
      @erinlikesacornishpasty4703 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think people only started wearing flip flops after 9/11 because they were TOLD by travel gurus they would have to take their shoes off at TSA. I remember that shift and everyone I knew was suddenly buying flip flops for air travel specifically, even though they never wore them before. Maybe the trend is dying down, but TSA still requires you to remove your shoes, unless you wear flip flips, so idk 🤷‍♀️.

    Do you know how the weather is in England and Ireland mid September through early October? My daughter is taking me with her to those countries and it would help to get an idea what to wear not only in the airplane (which this video helped tremendously) but also what to wear once we're there. Thank you!

  • @Karideplov

    If the flight is 4 hours or less, I can go for stretchy jeans, if I travel for work and am going directly to the office, then I am usually wearing a dress (work business appropriate) and if it more than 4 hours of travel (usually crossing the giant pond -Atlantic ocean-) I am wearing black or navy fabletic leggings with side pockets on the legs for passport of phone. I am a full figure /big chest girl so, if it a long flight, I go with sports bra as I usually wear underwire bra on the daily (previous daily when I actually went out into the world). Before becoming a mother, I would wear stretchy pants but dressier but, with small children, 10+ hour travel days are better in leggings because you are going to have something spilled on you or they will accidentally draw on you with markers. I guarantee it will happen

    I can't do the barefoot thing either, but I travel with my daughter and she sometimes does.. eww... Howeer, I don't even want my socks on those floors, so I put little footie socks over my socks and then take those off and put them in a sandwich bag in my purse before putting my shoes back on.
    I was surprised about your wider leg pants. I try to wear pants that won't ever touch the ground, even sitting down, so leggings, yoga pants, slim leg pants.

    Growing up, the rule was you dressed up to fly (dress pants/skirt and nice blouse or a dress with a dressy type of coat or jacket. Singularly the most uncomfortable flights I’ve ever taken.
    Now I dress for comfort. I usually wear yoga pants (wide leg, can pass for slacks), sometimes leggings, or comfy jeans, with a shirt (like you I make sure it covers the butt), and sweater/jacket. I tend to dress for the destination (eg. going to a colder climate, I wear warmer clothes). Much better.
