- Rabbitfish Season is back at Marina South Pier. In this episode, we manage to catch a few of them using our simple triple hook apollo rig. This time we are also prepared with 2 proper pole rods for catching rabbitfish.

Where to collect the seaweed?
- Sembawang Park Water Venture Club Canal area
Timing?
- Head down only during low tide to not get disappointed.
Where to catch Rabbitfish?
- Marina South Pier, Marina Cruise Centre, St. John and many more.

Nice one! We use these pole style rod in NZ for pipers (halfbeaks). Rabbit fish are very beautiful. Looks like a fun way to catch with seaweed bait, I’ll try that one day for some vegetarian fish in Nz.

Mantap Bro as usual, here in Brunei quite similar by using the pole (Shorter than yours) typically To catch a Kitang (Spotted Scat Fish/Scatophagus Argus), it's quite challenging it's mouth are so tiny best opt to go for smaller hook bait it with Banana or tiny juvenile shrimp. Fun fish to catch and also nice eating fish too
Thank you for watching bro! We did try using banana before 😁 It works as well haha! Shrimp wise we have yet to try. But so far the seaweeds works well here in Singapore.

If you plan to release the fish it is kinder to use a wet towel to hold onto the fish. The pliers may injure the fish.

Hi, not really. I use it sometimes as a indicator of the water level.

Description does not have exact description of rig. Do you use float and do you have a weight at the end? I suppose Apollo meant weight at the end. Size 2?
Hi there, the description has the inputs for the rig.
- 3 hook apollo rig with at least size 5 tamban hooks would do.
- If you watch the video, my setup has no float all the way.
- Sinker wise it would be a small split shot est 2g.

Do you know what rabbit fish eats?
There's a less vibrant version of them in the Aegean sea where I caught them years ago. One actually got me in the thigh which hurt like a bitch.... As if several vasps had stung me!
Indeed, we highly suggest using gar grip to hold such fishes 🤙🏼

Was stung by a rabbitfish years back. A kind soul offered me his Stingose gel. Relief from pain just after a few minutes. Great Aussie product. I now keep a tube in my tackle box.
Nice video. Beside seaweed, what other baits can we use for rabbit fish?
For this species, so far we only tried seaweed. Banana also works but for the other species (Scroll through our channel to find the video) We have yet to try banana on them.

why use pole instead of rod and reel?
You need the distance and sensitivity. If you cast right infront of the rabbitfish, they will get spook.

Need pole rod? Normal 6 ft rod ok?
Hi, yup. You can't reach them with a 6ft rod. If you cast on them, you will spook them. Try not to knock the sinker onto the rocks as well.

Long Pole Rod, replace seaweed with banana. Trial and error.
