Variety is a good thing. This is especially true in the sporting middleweight arena. If you're like us, then maybe you, too, like having variety, or seeking out the less popular. We put the 2008 Triumph Street Triple and 2008 Aprilia SL750 Shiver together for a little tête-à-tête in what we're calling our 2008 Naked Middleweights Comparison.

Shivers used are amazing bargains these days. The Tripple still demands big money. The shiver is such a good sounding and comfortable bike. Easy to fall in love with the bike
Agreed too: No losers here. But every time I ride my Aprilia Shiver I fall in love, again and again.
Two amazing bikes anyway.
Have you ridden the Street Triple doesn't sound like you have. I test rode the Shiver the Z750 the Hornet, Gladius, Ducati Monster and the BMW F800 and the Triumph was the best handling, lightest and fastest in the real world That's only my opinion but at least I gave the rest a fair chance before I paid my money.
dude, the Street Triple is a surprisingly comfortable bike. I rode a friends for a day, through city, highway and twisties - about 500km and not once felt cramped up and I'm a tall guy - six two about 190lbs. I love the Aprilias, but oddly enough the Tuono has less leg room then the Street. The Shiver has slightly better ergos then the Street, that is if you pref an upright riding position. I pref the slight lean on my Speed Triple. Anyway, doesnt matter what you ride as long as you love it!
Need your opinion for every day bike and 1,88 height !
So far i've jumped on bandit 650, gsr 600 and kawasaki Z 750
Only the Bandit was for my height
The others ones was for short people !!
Is the shiver for tall riders ?
Also like some yamaha, like the 07
that's right.
I'm also going for the triple.Awesome bike , unbelievable sound and of course Triumph character
I wish Aprilia would stick a fairing on that Shiver and make an 'R' version. I guess it wouldn't be powerful enough to compete with 600 i4s for racing though. Still It would probably sell well.
How did you feel about the Z750?, im considering buing a 2007 Z750
if you like the style and look of the shiver you might also consider the benelli titanium or the benelli cafe racer
The Street Triple is so for beginners through to the most experienced. It is so light docile and torquee that it makes perfect sense for a beginner.
What good is a bike if it doesn't let you ride more than 2 hours in the saddle before you have to get off of it due to leg and back cramps (i.e. Street Triple). The Triple is a beautiful bike but the layout causes a fetal position riding posture which would wear you out over a long distance. Maybe good for city riding but most riders want to see what's outside of the city and just ride with no 6000lb. SUV's coming at you every minute of city riding. As a new rider I am leaning to the Shiver!
IDK... I had two Speed Triples and they are pretty much the same bike and I could ride all day, 32in inseam.
Because for this particular type of motorcycle that is the target market. If it was a Ninja or Hyosung 250 (or a scooter), then I would imagine the review would be more like what you expect of a Prius.
Ive had a shiver gt for few months I'm 6^ 2 and can ride it all day stopping for sfuel often though. In real world I dont think I could ever find the limits of the handling on public roads. Back end does jump a little on poor surface and fast corners but nothing scary
But correct me if I'm wrong, an maybe I am, but aren't these bikes considered "standards"...which are what nakeds are? Aren't standards/nakeds different from Sport/Super Sport bikes?
There are bikes, and there are bikes with "soul". I Believe that Triumph make bikes with soul. Currently I have a Kawasaki (used bike...), because I had not enough money to buy the Street Triple. But next bike will be the Triple, for sure.
@ApexIXMR You are correct they are called both things. But I think naked (ie naked sport) is a better term for them than standard. But I do get what you mean. For an all around bike, few professional reviews tout features of the STR that make it good for, say, touring.
good comparison, though sometimes (towards the end) a bit boring. I'd choose the Shiver.. it looks magnificent =)
I liked it very fast but a little heavy and nervuos for my liking and skill level. Good looking bike. However a word of caution a friend of mine has one which he is about to sell, only had it for six months in that time it has fallen off the stand ten times. So if you get one beware. I would strongly suggest you ride the Street Triple as a comparison before you commit to the Z750
I've road both bike's.I bought the shiver because it was more comfortable and felt it handled better. You cannot base a your pick on one ride or many reviews. At first I didn't like the bike, I didn't like or didn't understand the power curve on it.After 2 years and 9,200 mile's, I love this bike. Once you figure out the sweet spot's and the excellent clutch system your good for anything.Handle's like a dream,There is a learning curve, took a while this bike has grunt and is a rocket when needed
That's probably safe to say for any bike one would actually have to get used to to know its limitations before passing judgment?
whitch is the best? i didnt understand it!
Just traded my Fazer 600 for a Shiver 😊
The Streeple definitely wins in handling and engine behavior ... Wider driving potential and experience and easier to utilize all that. Despite the Shiver feeling stifer on the suspensions (compared to vanila streeple) The Shiver is still a hell lot of a sexy ride. Absolutely nothing wrong with the bike. Lot of fun as well. And i like its noise too. If i could, i would own all three (#3 = monster)
The Aprilia will be in the shop every weekend! I'll take the Triumph thank you.
What gives you that idea I've got a 06 tuono nothing but reliability my friend.
wow they need to turn the audio up on the talking, when the bikes pass by you cant hear shit. b-roll wasnt cut clean either, reallllyy sloppy.
Shiver may not be but the street is and I know what I am talking about as I have one and only passed my test a few months ago. I can tell you that it is a far better bike than the SV650 as I owned one
ok but a 750cc twin will not put out 91 peak hp at the wheel unless it's a 749 Ducati, which the Shiver isn't, soooo.
And the Triumph is probably not for beginners IMO
Street Triple plz
It's faster and looks fantastic especially in orange but not a better bike. It is much heavier and does not handle as well. You would get far more enjoyment out of a Street Triple and in the bends the Speed Triple would struggle to keep up with the Street.
By the way both of the guys doing this comparo vid clearly highly favor the Triumph. They only say that "better everyday" crap about the Triumph because of "journalism politics".
Not too sound like a...prude...haha, but why does it seem that all motorcycle tests/comparisons/reviews focus on riding like everyone that buys these bikes are going to be popping wheelies and dragging their knees in every turn?
Imagine if all car reviews were like this. Picture them reviewing a Prius...ripping around turns and such.
I have the dorsoduro and although the triple is a better bike - it just can beat the Italian styling on the aprilia shiver
You didn't like it at first, sounds like you made a poor choice. There's a reason review after review everywhere rates the triple the best in its class. Simply because it is....
Triumph holds it's money and it will never let you down. Engines will do massive miles.
Guy I know had the Aprilia, the catalytic converter come lose and unravelled inside the Y piece before the two mufflers, it made it's way up to the silencer....
@odracirseraoseia1999 Nothing but excellent reliability from my triumphs. 14k miles and not a single problem with regular maintenance.
Shiver plz, kktnx.
they sould show the triumph speed triple its better than the street one
Uggh, I meant "they only say that "better everyday" crap about the **APRILIA** because of "jorunalism politics". lol. my bad...
@JohnMD2K :)
lame review, they sympathize triumph, new Aprilia 2010+ WAY beautiful bike...
wtf at the editing at 1:29-1:32
Shiver looks great and has a lot of features, but aftermarket accessories are almost nothing and lots of people have reported serious problems that Aprilia has been unresponsive about. I love the bike and would get it over the triple only b/c I don't want the speed and excitement of the triple b/c it's scary ( I've test ridden and it's so much fun ). But I'm getting a triple b/c of the Shivers problems.
I like how in all the comments, those who are concerned about looks go for the Aprilia. While those who care about real preformance go with Triumph.
If you want something pretty save yourself a bunch of money and buy a model and put it on your desk.
Triumph is a badass company!
"Even though its designed by the brits"
Your point being?...
LOL! You know why...
I think it's funny that Triumph has recently begun to fully embrace the beige, tweed and flat cap image that the international community sees the Brits as typifying.
Never mind that it was the Brits who popularised the street-fighter genre! Of course, it took the Italians to perfect it...
Speed Triple vs. V2 Tuono, anyone?
That Triumph will smash that italien like its nothing
The Street Triple seems to be great. Couldn´t those engineers leave the motorbike with some decent designers for a couple of weeks?
It's not that it's "function over form", I think they were so excited about the brilliant function that they forgot the form.
It's "designed" by engineers
Thats if you haven't been around for the past few years ... Thats sort of racistic lol, when you think that brits have an equally bad reliability reputation thats at least short sighted to say ;) Especially Aprilia wins a special place in build quality hands downi, even by just a thorough walk around you can tell the dfference ...
Ducati monster is shit!!!
The one that comes near is the MONSTER S4R Testastretta and its like 12.000 euros.
Street ftw
both of these are Ducati monster knock offs
Are you high? I have a Ducati and a Triumph. These are hardly Monster knock-offs bro.
