  • In this video I go over some of the thoughts that can go into building a cube. Contrary to the title, this is still in no way a complete guide, but it's as complete as I can make it in 20-ish minutes. I hope it's helpful and please let me know your thought in the comments!

      Also additionally to say, most people say on their videos there are no rules just do what you like and then don't actually bother to give any guidelines and give vague propositions like, "put your heart into the card" "choose what you love" "there are no rules, go crazy" and this simple guide gives so much more context to those choices, thanks again. :)

    I find the 'collections' section at 9:09 to be very helpful! I would really enjoy a video breaking this section down a bit more. Keep it up!

      Hey Brian, I could go into more details. Do you have any thoughts on the parts I should expand on?

    • @Barf_FaB
      @Barf_FaB 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mtgcubetube around 13:00 you bring up more collections and mention seeding cards into other archtypes. I find this part very difficult. I guess the more I talk about this less there seems enough room to make a video, but some insight into these choices would be helpful. Keep up the good work!

      Ah I get what you mean. I'll do this in a simple way in the new series where I build a cube from scratch. But after that I could make a short video of exactly this topic with some fun examples.

    Best video I've come across for the purpose of building cube. I hope you will continue making videos like this!
    I'm building my first cube right now, and have so many questions. Would be great if you could cover some of the following subjects:
    * As-fan
    * Multiplayer vs One-on-One play
    * Minor themes versus major themes
    * Split/Fuse/Aftermath cards
    * (In)complete cycles

    Tip for your lands. You want your land size to be about a 3rd of your cube. If you take your cube and devide it by 3, you get the minimum amount of basic lands you will need so that everyone can draft their color without running into issues

    • @mtgcubetube
      @mtgcubetube  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I don't understand: the number of basic lands you need surely depends on the number of players and not on the size of your cube.
      If you have a 1000 card cube you don't need more basics than for a 360 card cube if you play with 8 people.

    • @GreenGearStudio
      @GreenGearStudio 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mtgcubetube It's more a quick way to figure out how many basic lands you'll need for a standard draft with the max amount of people your cube can handle (a 360 card cube can handle 8 players max) without running out of basics.

    I really like your content. Keep making it! How about doing something on the individual mana costs within each colour? I run 360 and would be interested to see if my splits of cmc, creatures, spells is good.

    what if you wanted to include tri color cards in the 450 cube 16:43?

  • @mc_v6237
    @mc_v6237 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Hey, I want to build a cube were players can play diferent strategies with the colours they want. So my plan is to have 10 "archtypes", one for each tri colour combination, becouse I think that there is more overlap potential if I use 3colour combinations. Does this makes sense, or should I rather build around the guilds?

    • @LadyOfLynn
      @LadyOfLynn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      3 color combinations are a perfectly valid way to build a cube, and heck, you could even go for 5 quad color combinations, or archetypes that span all colors. It gets a heck of a lot harder, though, because you have to put in a *lot* more effort to make sure most of the cards in the cube synergize with each other. There's also a number of other pros and cons to each approach(like a guild approach makes it way easier to create signpost uncommons to signal to drafters what your themes are)
      Here's a solid post on riptidelabs on the topic: riptidelab.com/forum/threads/archetype-shapes.2022/
      If you're only just starting out, it may be better to just work with 2 color combinations at first, as that is considerably simpler to manage.

    Sadly I didn't find your tutorial, when I was learning to build cubes around 2 years ago. For the most part it is a great starting point, although I do want to add a small thing and a big thing I'm missing. You went pretty fast over the multicoolor numbers and I think it inclines new cubers to include more multicolors than standard MTGO cubes, which is a trap in my opinion, since these cubes already run many multicolor cards. That being said this is also an aspect of design philosophy, but touches my bigger critique: You don't explain how to balance Colors, Guilds and the whole Cube, which is too big of a topic itself for this video. I think your Guild spell books are also misleading in that context, since I would call it best practice looking at these and looking at the colors individually for Creature/non Creature ratios, curve and so on. Still thank you for your efforts.
