Build date is also on driver door tag opening . My build date is 6-20 Kentucky plant that labor time is not even enough to do a good job on this involved a project. Dealership mechanic for 12 years heavy equipment mechanic 31 years . They should just install new trans and send the one out of the truck back to factory to be rebuilt!!!

Great video and information. I ordered a 2022 f250 v8 6.2 with the 6 speed tranny. I owned the 10 speed on several trucks and it has had many issues. The 6 speed has never gave me problem.

I took my truck in for this service. I was nervous as hell. I will have to say my truck runs great the transmission shifts so smooth the only way you can tell it shifts is by the tach or the numbers for what gear it's in. This video helped me with the dealership by giving me the knowledge to ask the right questions and let them know I have knowledge to know what's going on. Thank you.

I had a nice 2019 F350 Lariat 6.2L and 6R140. It was nice, but I sold it in early February and in March ordered a 2022 F350 Lariat 7.3L Tremor which has the 10R140. I wanted the 7.3L engine. Hopefully, this problem will be isolated to the 2020 Super Duty trucks. Two other possibilities. 1. The aftermarket will design a solution. 2. The 6R140 will bolt up to the 7.3L gas engine.

As both a mechanic at a dealership and a transmission builder all I can say is wow! 10 hours labor to do this job is a joke I doubt a single stator support or valve body bolt will get torqued or a single thing cleaned. Also if something is generating metal like a planet carrier the entire transmission must me torn down and properly cleaned and reassembled which takes more than 10 hours to do properly and no dealership I’ve ever seen has the proper equipment to do automatic transmissions efficiently making the mechanic cut corners to even get close to what he’s getting paid in hours

Any 2020+ Ford Super Duty owners with the 10R140 that received the Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) Notice 21B03, for repair - replace the bearing in the Number One Planetary Ring Gear Assembly, might want to consider paying the Ford dealer and or technician extra money to install performance upgrades.

The Ford 10R140 and GM 10L1000 were built on a joint venture project by both Ford and GM engineers, with Ford leading the project. Both of these transmissions have a robust structure, but both have several weak internal parts.

The GM 10L1000 was not designed and engineered by Allison. Inside information indicates one of the top Allison engineers made a couple of tweaks in order for GM to pay big dollars and use the Allison name.
There are two different 10R140 and GM 10L1000 versions for the gas and diesel engines. Problems reported with both versions.

The main identified PROBLEM with these transmissions is "cross leaking" in the Valve Body and the "E Clutch Assembly". One company has a fix for these problems along with offering many other performance upgrades in parts like the torque converter cover, triple disk lockup mechanism, CNC machined billet stator, custom clutch stackup, increased clutch surface areas, etc.

A rebuilt valve body will cost around $1,000.00 while full rebuilds with several quality internal parts for 10R140 and 10L1000 transmissions will be around $9,000.00.

I think you're worrying unnecessarily I was a Ford tech for close to 20 years with automatic transmissions as a specialty Ford will not allow any Tech to make a warranty repair unless he is certified for working on the transmission in this recall furthermore if an uncertified Tech works on any recall Ford will not pay the dealership for the repair I am retired now but from the looks of the recall that you are showing not all transmissions will experience a complete failure of the bearing these are straightforward procedures to take care of a known concern part Ford is making every effort to make sure this concern is addressed promptly over my career I've seen this many times Ford goes out of their way to take care of their customers quickly due to dealership size workload and scheduling most customers will probably get their truck back within 3 or 4 days in most cases Ford does not issue a recall unless they already have Parts ready to service a minimum expected number of vehicles this is not the end of the world for your new truck it's just inconvenient I'm quite sure your truck will be repaired without any major problem I hope you get many years of good service out of the vehicle

    • @15Jeep
      @15Jeep 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Exactly! Furthermore this is minor compared to past GM and Chrysler transmission failures. The problem with the "single faulty part" inside the Ford 10R140 and 10R140G transmissions is minor compared to the "design defect" of the entire 8 speed transmissions built by General Motors...affecting a long list of models from 2015 through 2019. Numerous class-action suits have been filed against GM over its 8L45E and 8L90 eight-speed automatic transmission. Plaintiffs claim the eight-speed automatic transmission will slip gears, shift into gear aggressively and also cause the vehicle to shudder or jerk. Talk about a "piece of junk". This may well in fact be the biggest blunder of an automatic transmission in automotive history.

@@stephenvalastro5678 Ford (For) the most part, I do like the General Motors V8 gas engines and usually the automatic transmissions bolted up behind those engines. However, I cannot stand.....actually detest and loathe the Chevrolet 4WD and GMC 4WD trucks!
I completely agree.....Ford...the Navistar built 6.0L and 6.4L diesel engines...had numerous problems off the assembly line.
The 6.0L had failures and problems with the "Surrounding Operating Systems".....cheap, weak design...the FICM, water pump (cast aluminum housing, plastic impeller), engine oil cooling system (oil to coolant to get cooled), MotorCraft Premium Gold Coolant with silicates (formed goo, muck and sludge that clogged the engine oil cooler), poorly designed EGR cooler, inadequate oil filtration (oil filter too small). Bullet Proof Diesel resolved all of these problems with quality aftermarket parts. Example: CNC machined aluminum billet water pump...both the housing and the impeller. I just sold a very nice F350 Crew Cab 6.0L 4WD truck in January. Many people driving these trucks trouble free. Granted, lot of money to get them reliable and durable.
The 6.4L suffers from problems with the twin turbos and more importantly, block cavitation behind the water pump. No fix for that.
You mentioned 6.2L. I never heard of a 6.2L diesel in a Ford truck.

@@stephenvalastro5678 Why do I detest and loathe the Chevrolet 4WD and GMC 4WD trucks? GM 4WD trucks are PATHETIC off-road, on uneven terrain, especially in mud and snow.

GM engineers do not have a clue on how to build a good 4WD truck. The entire truck should be re-engineered. What's wrong with Chevrolet 4WD and GMC 4WD trucks?
Check Out the following List ----------->
      1. IFS Axle - Poor Axle Articulation compared to the Solid Front Axle
      2. Poor Approach Angle - truck is unable to ascend a steep hill
      3. Poor Departure Angle - truck is unable to descend a steep hill
      4. Poor Breakover Angle - result of Little Itty Bitty tries AND Low Hanging Frame Rails...truck ends up as a "Teeter Totter" on small knolls or mounds of dirt on uneven terrain off-road.
      5. Square / Rectangle Wheel Wells - round tire in a square / rectangle opening - the proverbial "round peg in a square hole". GM engineers are stupid!
      6. Too Much Lift required for Larger Tires.....4 inch lift required for 35 inch tires and 6 inch lift required for 37 inch tires...messes up the "Center of Gravity" (related to Number 5).
Chevrolet 4WD and GMC 4WD are both "Street Queens".....only good for driving on paved roads.....maybe snow packed paved roads to the grocery store and to home improvement stores to pick up a few supplies. Both trucks are pathetic off-road. The Chevrolet 4WD Trail Boss has itty bitty tires. The GMC 4WD AT4 is a joke...and butt ugly to boot. Looks like it belongs in a Star Wars movie.
      Regarding 4WD trucks........GM = Gargantuan Mistake!!!

It would be cheaper for Ford to simply replace the transmission and ship the pulled units back to the transmission manufacturing facility for a rebuild in controlled circumstances.

If the dealer puts you on the list before the cut off date you will be fine. Also, all dealerships are not owned by ford but the one I used to work for, something major like this they put a 'team' on this and they do the repairs exclusively(one to remove and reinstall the trans and 1 to just do the internal work). This allows them to become very efficient while reducing the risk of human error. I'm sure you have to be Ford automatic certified to even be allowed to work on the inside of these transmission and then be reimbursed by Ford.

So glad my truck was delayed so long and missed this transmission recall date range. I feel bad for all the truck owners affected though. Good on Ford for recalling this as this recall will cost Ford Motor Co. a pile of money. Think of the labor cost alone.

I like the F250 power stroke and had planned to get one soon. The 10spd and motor were prime reasons I wanted the truck. This is at least the second major recall to this vehicle and Ford is not making big strides to assure its buyers, who are stuck with these problems. Seems to be a complicated vehicle. I had an older Duramax and had to replace the injectors under warranty. That was it.

Its not the shop that does good or bad work but the tech doing the work. I'm in the twin cities and there is one guy that did the Ford police car transmission work in the area. Thank you so much for the video and the link. I just took delivery of a special order 2021 model in late February 2021. I am keeping that pdf just in case this recall is expanded to include my truck. If I were you, I would demand a brand new torque converter, fluid, filter and tranny cooler. You bought a brand new truck and only brand new parts (not reconditioned) should be used for repair. They can flush the lines, but they can never remove all of the debris from the torque converter and cooler. Thats why new or rebiult torque converter warranties require you to replace the tranny cooler also or the converter warranty is voided.
