    Was shifting fine and not over heating now has 93,500 miles

    I really can’t believe that I might have done this. Just replaced the Moyer on a rat rod. It ran fine before replacement but it did sit for a few years. It wouldn’t move so I thought it was low. I added with it while cold forgetting to to warm up. Don’t know if this is the problem. It never really warmed up. But noticed when I shut it down fluid was almost gushing out of the dip stick . Hopefully I didn’t damage it.

    Very useful video, had gear fluid leaking problems awhile ago, changed the seal and was fine, then started leaking again after couple of months and replaced new gasket. Not leaking anymore but slowly became underpowered and having some whining sound, also slipping gear. Have an appointment with new trusted mechanic within few days and hopefully solve this issue. Not gonna trust my previous mechanic anymore since they kept saying my gear fluid is enough and nothing has to be done after I visit them for sevaral times whenever I feel and heard some of the weird signs and sounds.

    Random question that might be dumb. My son's car started having some issues that seem to be transmission related. Background: I bought him the car about a year and a half ago. In that time the only stuff been done to it was by his dad, none of which are transmission related stuff.
    The issues just started a few days ago and got dramatically worse pretty quickly. He started noticing it seemed to not be shifting the same from 2nd to 3rd and then down shifting. His car is automatic but he said it just felt off. Then the other day it got so bad that he was worried about driving it so I drove it. To me it feels like his overdrive is kicking in for no reason between 2nd and 3rd. So I checked the transmission fluid wondering if it's a leak or just needs to be changed really bad and it is seriously overfull. At cold it is just about the hot line and at temp the fluid is like past the words on the dip stick.
    My question is, could that be causing what's happening even though it has to have been that full for over a year and either way can I just drain a little or do I have to do a full transmission fluid change in order to fix the situation?

    I took my truck in and had the transmission flushed. It started driving a bit strange. Felt kinda slow or weak. I barely drive so there wasn’t many miles on it. It was extremely difficult to get the transmission up to 160 degrees to check. I drove around city blocks for about a hour. I checked at 163 degrees and it was overfilled. I drew out about 250ml to get it back into the hash marks. It’s at the very top of the hot range. It drives great again!!!! I’m going to still take it in and have the fluid and filter changed. The fluid was darker than I thought it would be with only a couple thousand miles on it.

    Your two example cases: One is the transmission fluid level (overnight in cold morning before starting engine) is all the way high above the hot mark on the dipstick, it is definitely overfilled. Another case is the transmission fluid level is OK when the transmission is hot(after ten or fifteen minutes drive) with engine running and the transmission fluid level is less 1/4" above the hot mark. If the two cases happen on the same transmission, the the transmission fluid is overfilled or not? My transmission level is this situation, do I need drain some out?

      If I'm understanding what your saying correctly is that in the morning before starting your car the level is well above the hot mark, yet when you drive it and check it when the transmission is hot the level is less than a 1/4" inch above the hot mark. If that is correct then that is exactly what is happening in my transmission which is doing my head in....! I've been searching and the consensus is check while hot....yeah...fair dinkum.....what I don't understand and nobody can tell me is why is this happening.

      @@Do-iz6qdbecause when it is hot there is more fluid throughout the whole transmission and torque converter. When it sits for a while and cools down, the fluid drains back into your transmission pan(which is where dipstick is reading from). My car also only has a hot reading. You need to drive your car for a few minutes to get everything up to operation temp then park your car on a level surface and check your transmission fluid level. If the hot level is good, wait at least few hours or overnight for everything to cool down and pull the dipstick again. Use a small file to scratch the dipstick at the cold fluid level and now you have an accurate cold fill level.

    Lol...I had my transmission rebuilt, and it's started slipping, making loud noises. I couldn't drive over 40 mph. The check engine light came on with 2 codes about the solenoids. So I took it back to the shop, and the guy did a test run and deleted the codes and said it runs fine😮 I said what about the transmission leak, and he said the transmission was overfill so it Purge what it didn't needed😂😂😂😂 I said what! I've never heard that before mane. I said, "How is that so?" I rather him to say what you said about the pressure and the gasket 😢

      Those cars that don't have dip stick do have a level check bolt for checking the fluid level.

    • @metzmatu8409

      Most cars require the engine to be running when checking trans fluid.
      For Honda, mostly need to off the engine to check, within 60-90 second after engine off do the check.

    • @jaypumphery.rockmusicmaste8827
      @jaypumphery.rockmusicmaste8827 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      From what I understand, it often depends on the condition of the fluid that’s already in there. If you see that your current ATF is really dark colored and almost burned looking, I wouldn’t go doing a full flush because there’s possibly parts in the transmission that are so worn out that they depend on the grit in the fluid to function properly, like the clutch system. I think ChrisFix did a video on this too. If it’s still kinda light red/brown color and needs replacement, pretty sure you’ll be okay to do a complete flush.

    • @MrRedHotChiliMan
      @MrRedHotChiliMan 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would agree for the most part but he could play it safe and do like 3 drain and fills over a 6 month period. You really only want to do a full flush if it’s been flushed consistently like every 30 thousand miles.

    Great advice. I'm 72 years old and I haven't been working on motor vehicles that often. When I do l will look for videos on the problems I am having. I am what you would say mechanically inclined person as I grew up working on anything mechanical. I worked in the construction trade as well as the aircraft industry building numerous different aircraft with McDonald's Douglas and Boeing. So I usually can tell if the person making the video knows what they are talking about. From what I have seen with this video you have more knowledge than most of the other people posting like videos.So 👍 for a great job.
