  • Ron Doron reviews the Mitsubishi Mirage and didn't have too many nice things to say about it. The struggling Japanese brand is looking to gain traction with the Mirage which achieves 44MPG on the highway, but the quality isn't quite there.

P.S. it is built in Thailand, not Japan.

Correction: The Mitsubishi Mirage is _the_ most fuel efficient compact, excluding hybrids. But I must say, as a Mirage owner, I am consistently getting 50 miles per gallon to and from work, and I'm driving country back roads, not even highway. One day I even got 54 mpg. Now _that's_ hybrid territory. And at many thousands less than I would have paid for a hybrid, plus, I don't have to worry about the batteries degrading after five years.
I think that lots of people are missing the point here. A car with the lowest drag coefficient, .29, the highest gas mileage, and at the lowest cost range, that can seat 4 that is a 4-door.
I _love_ my Mirage for what it is! The most exciting part is when I take it on long business trips and then get paid by my company for the mileage. xD
You do that often enough and with the savings you can pay for a sports car for when you want to be a show-off. xD

Do you have the manual trans or the CVT?
Glad you like it, I also think it seems like a good car!

      @fanfare100 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

It does, on the highway, but it gets less combined. It's also appealing to me but i already own a Mirage now. It's got more spunk because its a turbo. I wonder how much the 3-cylinder Fiesta 1.0L Turbo is?

The Fiesta SFE starts at just under $18k...nearly 40% more than the Mirage. With the CVT, there isn't much you can do to improve the car's mileage.
But with the 5-speed, you can BLOW AWAY the EPA estimates if you know how to drive with an eye towards mileage.

Fiesta's are rated so poorly for reliability though. Mitsubishi's are usually rock solid reliable.

Reviewers always hate small basic transportation. Some people really don't care about having a nice car, they just want basic transportation. Look at the awful reviews ford festivas and geo metros got. Those cars are loved to pieces by their owners! I think the mirage will be the same way.

Lol not everything you said is true: Built in Japan (not, it was built in Thailand). Vibrations while on stop (not true, I've driven a 2014 and a 2015 Mirage, both don't vibrate...are you sure it's the mirage you felt vibrating?). They are right, so far you are the most biased reviewer I've ever stumbled upon here in youtube. I mean, my dad owns a BMW X5....and it's a comfortable, posh ride, but he finds the mirage a useful city car plus its mpg or km/L. I guess you drive a McLaren for or a Bugatti just as a way of commuting everyday :) high standards, very high.

I had the exact same Mirage in this review. It was totaled in a rear end accident. I miss it a lot for zipping around the city and getting crazy good gas mileage.

I have a 2014 mirage and is made in Thailand not japan , i don't feel vibration even that is been in a front end collision so I don't know where this guy came with this review but I do love to put 3 qt at every oil change and my 45 to 52 mpg , rides nice and has more than 20000 miles , is confort and I don't feel noisy as some others say, I love it and just to let you people now that my 2015 yamaha R3 is made in Thailand too by the Japanese standards and is been a he'll of the motorcycle with already over 11000 miles and I start to trust this Thailand made things just like Japanese quality

The Mirage is not built in Japan, but in Malaysia. I bought one and the build quality is excellent.

The Mirage comes in plenty of drab colours if that's your bag. I think there's 5 shades of white/black, even. I bought plasma purple because might as well have fun with it.
14" wheels are great for anywhere with snow. Way better in the winter. Many Canadians go to the lowest size wheel their cars will fit for the winter. I suppose the reviewer lives in a southern state? In fact, you can fit 13" wheels if you like. 15" are also an option if you like big wheels (Don't know why, maybe they're good in hot weather?).
CVT gets worse fuel economy in the real world. Everyone knows that US mpg numbers are completely broken for all manuals all the time always. Anyone who works in the industry knows this. My manual car is already beating the CVT numbers.
Mine doesn't vibrate at stop lights, though it is the 2015 model. Maybe they fixed that for 2015. Or maybe yours was broken.
The Mirage is available with traditional turn key ignition, if you prefer that. Mine has it.
The US Model is way overpriced. Americans should come to Canada to buy our base models. I bought my 2015 base model for $8995 Canadian ($6866 USD).
The engine is loud, I will give you that. And the acceleration isn't fast, but for me, it's enough (why would you buy the cheapest car out there to drive as a sports car?). Steering isn't perfect, either. Not terrible, but not perfect. I'm satisfied with the stability on the highway, but our highways are only 100 km/h. On the 135 km/h southern US highways, it may be less stable.
The engine takes a bit of getting used to. Being a 3 cylinder, 4 cycle engine, 1 of those cycles is freewheeling, so you get a weird sound from it, almost rough, but not exactly.

They DID improve the motor mounts on the 2015 models. But I see the incredible bias going on with th review. No one considers the type of Buyers want this car and how it serves someone simply looking to save money owning a car that will give them no trouble.

The upper crust at Mitsubishi don't get it do they. This is probably their way of saying we have given up on the US market and are on our way out to focus on the JDM and Chinese market instead. Good luck Mitsubishi.

When you have these car review tossers trying out every car from every price point under the sun, they become used to the higher end cars and think anything short of a $50,000 price tag is inferior and beneath them. They are incapable of appreciating a basic inexpensive personal transport that the masses really want.

HORRIBLE REVIEW!!! well refined? Lowest drag ratio of any car. 14 inch wheels are the LEAST expensive tirse you can buy and the car drives well. Vibration? I test drove several of them and none of them vibrated at a stop. He does not understand Less is more. If you want a luxury car, get a Mercedes, if you want a car that will LAST that makes great mileage, get the Mirage. If you get a used car, it will probably have a old mechanical hydraulic transmission which is the most expensive repair you can have. He says steering is bad but later on says it has a great turning radius?

Dude the car fucking SUCKS! I don't care if it's a cheap car its still not worth 15 grand. It cant do much cause its so weak. I want a car that's cheap but also reliable. For 15 grand I could get a pretty good Nissan Versa or a Chevy Spark or Ford Fiesta. Any car is better than this even used cars.

I only gave the dislike because the man gave one of the nastiest reviews to date. I tested out one of those Mirages a year ago and I was impressed with the car overall. It’s not a speed demon but then again this is a car for city driving which is all good.
