For Legendary Axe 2, one of the main things people get divisive about in regards to the game is the fact that apparently it's not a sequel to the first game at all in Japan, the two games have different names & are not linked to each other. If you find three white "stars" (something like that) for the first time the strength will be increased. For the second time girl character get an arbalest instead of a sword. Thanks for cool video :)
@@st1ka did a little research and found out that what I actually had was the game Saiyuuki World, which was mislabeled SonSon II on a bootlegged cartridge. And quite a lot of people had the same problem, as I gathered from the comments
Nice list. I did play Hyper Iria, SonSon 2 (the character in Marvel vs Capcom 2 is _supposedly_ the protagonist's daughter/granddaughter) and Blades of Vengeance. I knew Night Slavs existed due to being a fan of the Assault Suits series, but I didn't know it was a spicy game... although, yeah, it's a PC-98 game. I should have seen that coming...
11:38 Holy shit, it's nice to see this version of Jurassic Park getting some recognition. It took me YEARS to beat as a child, and definitely felt like an achievement. Those later levels with the velociraptors terrified me as an eight year old. I had to take so many breaks just to get my heart rate down. And as far as the sewer "not being that difficult", for an adult, yes. For a five year old child, damn it took me FOREVER to learn the layout of that damn sewer, and far too long to figure out how to get inside. The second level was no joke for obtusity either, what with the need to collect EVERY single one of those damn berries for the giant triceratops, but once I got past the first level, the rest were far more straightforward in comparison, except maybe for the final one.
Altrough it's clearly heavily influenced by Strider (certainly, it's a Strider clone), it's the better game. Better level design, more fluid gameplay, a nice soundtrack, and much variety in graphical effects - it's simply the better Strider imo!
Thanks for the video. I started playing Legendary Axe based on your suggestion. I liked it in the first 2 min, so I went back to the first one, and I like that too!
Good stuff. I have Wings of Wor and beat it and own Blades Of Vengeance in my To Do pile. Might wanna do Son Son 2 and The Legendary Axe II. Good recommends. And thanks for mentioning Daemon Claw. I had the kickstarter backed and it looks good from the info they showed. I think i heard it from you're community posts. Its like months ago so I cant recall.
Hey Sitka, The Iria anime is pretty good, I watched it back in the day. It’s kind of a Cyberpunk bounty hunter thing, highly recommend. Man, you are coming in hot with that thumbnail image (it’s awesome).
Hyper Iria: it's a nice game, but the slowdown sometimes really sucks. It's not because the system can't handle it (it's technically a low tier game), it's because of wrong/bad coding. Remember games like Rendering Ranger or the DK trilogy f.e., they run perfect without any slowdown.
I definitely need to try the MS-DOS version of Jurassic Park again. My dad got it for me back in late 1993 or early 1994. I absolutely sucked at playing it, given I was six years old, so I never did reach the 3D stages. There were a bunch of DOS games I never completed but had fun playing. The DOS version of Batman Returns is a particular recommendation of mine as a hidden gem of the 16-bit era. It has great style and atmosphere to it, even if it can be clunky. Great video, mate!
Be sure to skip the 2D sections. They're not bad, but could be better. The 3D sections is where it's at. Also, I've actually covered Batman Returns in a christmas video :D
@@st1ka Haha, I'd be losing out on too much of the nostalgia to skip them, at least a first! Looking forward to trying the 3D sections; very impressive for the time. Ah, looking forward to watching how you cover the various Batman Returns games in the Christmas hidden gems, and games that stole Christmas videos!
Wow, that Jurassic Park game looks awesome. I wish Limited Run had included it in the Jurassic Park Collection. I love your other other selections as well with some featuring beautiful anime art. :)
Limited run actually left quite a few games out of their collection, I believe it doesn't include the third mega drive game or the Sega CD game for example
I was gonna leave a very strongly worded comment if I had played any of these, but the only one that came close was Son Son 2 (I played the original Son Son). So, well played. I really DIDN'T play any of these before.
Never heard of these games but got nostalgic for them all the same. Well, nostalgic for the era. That sense of experimentation we all took for granted as kids before big money homogenised everything.
Awesome awesome video. Love that you include naughty Pc98 games, too. I have to admit though that lionheart is not exactly an hidden gem to me, especially since it was acclaimed in reviews at the time. Anyway, great bunch and I'm definitely going to test e few.
Loved this video had a mix of games I love like Run Saber, games I forgot like Gunforce and Blades of Vengeance, and games I never heard of like Asterix, want to make a list out of this one
Jokes on you I've played Asterix but didn't know it was a comic lol... maybe my dad did, because growing up that was on his Sega Genesis. Joking aside I didn't get very far, I didn't understand it and got bored, but maybe I should give it another chance as an adult, haven't thought about in years.
@@st1ka Haha. I was just joking but what the hell xD I enjoyed the Mega Man 2 one for all it's flaws, and I still maintain that Tiger Handheld had the best Pit Fighter port. It could actually be figured out and played, rather than just button mashing.

This video is 110% why I'm subscribed.
haha thank you
Great choice of thumbnail my man!
thank you!
Thanks for this video. I really recommend to play those games with retroarch and load shaders to get a real 16bits era experience!
Hope you enjoyed it
Thanks for sharing all these cool games. I probably would never have found any of them on my own.
Thank you! I try ^^
Run Saber was awesome!
Altrough it's clearly heavily influenced by Strider (certainly, it's a Strider clone), it's the better game. Better level design, more fluid gameplay, a nice soundtrack, and much variety in graphical effects - it's simply the better Strider imo!
Such of a fun game
@@greensun1334 Totally agree. Strider was good too, but Run Saber felt better to me in just about every way.
Thanks for the video. I started playing Legendary Axe based on your suggestion. I liked it in the first 2 min, so I went back to the first one, and I like that too!
The Legendary Axe games are genuinely great.
Awesome video, thanks
thank you ^^
Man what a banger list 🔥hyper iria, son son 2,blades of vengeance, gun force ,legendary axe will check these👍
Glad you liked it :D
I've played son son 2, but I'm psyched theres an Asterix beat em up! Im going to play that!
Enjoy! :D
For more PC98 and 88 games, I recommend the channel Basement Brothers. They also speak Japanese fluently so they can talk about yet untranslated games
Oh I know that channel well
Some great picks in here!
Thank you ^^
I can't wait until Daemon claw is out
Love seeing a video reference not only Run Saber but Vixen 357 also these are games no one I know has heard of but stuck with me.
Glad I could deliver :)
I have to admit the only reason I'm familiar with SonSon is because of his Granddaughter's appearance as a playable character in MVC2. 😅
haha
Hey Sitka,
The Iria anime is pretty good, I watched it back in the day. It’s kind of a Cyberpunk bounty hunter thing, highly recommend.
Man, you are coming in hot with that thumbnail image (it’s awesome).
Haha yeah I gotta game the algo any way I can
Hyper Iria: it's a nice game, but the slowdown sometimes really sucks. It's not because the system can't handle it (it's technically a low tier game), it's because of wrong/bad coding. Remember games like Rendering Ranger or the DK trilogy f.e., they run perfect without any slowdown.
Understandable ^^
Another banger. I love your videos, keep up the good work!
Thank you! :D
@stevenwarner9156 oh I've actually already done that. Can't remember which Christmas video it was, but I've covered every batman returns game
Blades of Vengeance was developed by Beam Software
Legendary Axe 2 is a personal fave. Some of the best music in games from that era also.
It's such a cool game! :D
I was gonna leave a very strongly worded comment if I had played any of these, but the only one that came close was Son Son 2 (I played the original Son Son). So, well played. I really DIDN'T play any of these before.
Glad I met expectations!
Never heard of these games but got nostalgic for them all the same. Well, nostalgic for the era. That sense of experimentation we all took for granted as kids before big money homogenised everything.
right? I love the 16-bit era :D
I didn't know you could do trailers for upcoming videos 🤯
Yep you can :D
@@st1ka That is excellent to know.
“…the only thing standing between you and greatness is your willingness to chew through the impossible.” So deep! Today is the day, I can feel it.
lol
Night Salve has a fantastic soundtrack, featuring some funky FM tunes. I listen to it at work sometimes.
agreed! :D
Awesome awesome video. Love that you include naughty Pc98 games, too. I have to admit though that lionheart is not exactly an hidden gem to me, especially since it was acclaimed in reviews at the time. Anyway, great bunch and I'm definitely going to test e few.
The thing about Amiga games is that Amiga gamers know them, but people outside Amiga circles don't 😅
the music selection the gameplay copilation it was beutyfull nice job on the trailer st1ka cant wait to see the video
Yeah I try to make them appealing ^^
Gynoug is ABSOLUTELY AWESOME and STUNNINGLY AMAZING
hell yeah!
The biggest hidden gem here is your channel, you deserve more viewers.
Thank you! I try ^^
Loved this video had a mix of games I love like Run Saber, games I forgot like Gunforce and Blades of Vengeance, and games I never heard of like Asterix, want to make a list out of this one
Glad I could help! :D
I'm a simple man .. I see good picture .. I click ~ 😎🍻
that's the idea :P
Jokes on you I've played Asterix but didn't know it was a comic lol... maybe my dad did, because growing up that was on his Sega Genesis. Joking aside I didn't get very far, I didn't understand it and got bored, but maybe I should give it another chance as an adult, haven't thought about in years.
hahIf you do, I hope you'll enjoy it :D
great video as always
Thank you! ^^
Keep up the amazing channel. 🙌🏼💯
Thank you! Will do! ^^
St1ka should do an INCREDIBLE TIGER HANDHELD Gems You Never Played video. It'll be short, but so so sweet.
I've actually been meaning to do that. I was really impressed by Gauntlet and Snake's revenge.
Got any recommendations?
@@st1kaSpace Harrier 2.
The Nintendo Game & Watch Super Mario Bros.
Most Pac-Man LCDs.
There was a cool little LCD keychain Pinball game.
It might be one of those Internet Archive to the rescue things. MAME plays a pretty wide range of them.
@@st1ka Haha. I was just joking but what the hell xD I enjoyed the Mega Man 2 one for all it's flaws, and I still maintain that Tiger Handheld had the best Pit Fighter port. It could actually be figured out and played, rather than just button mashing.
@@sambojinbojin-sam6550 Thank you I'll check them out ^^
Iria is my favorite anime of all time! I never knew there was a game of it!
I need to watch it :D
I love and hate notifications.
Love that I can see content I want to see.
Hate that every time I see it, I have to wait, and by the time it happens, I've been distracted and miss it.
sorry :P
I love indie movies and forgotten movies as much as I love indie games and forgotten big releases. Bring it on.
Hope you enjoyed the video then ^^
Super Video.
thank you! ^^
Another great video my man! 🤗🤘🤘🤘🤘 A lot of these I've never heard of before. I don't have a computer or the means to emulate anything, So I'm not going to be able to play most of them. But they still look really cool!
Glad I could help it! :D
Nice. I had Gynoug(Japanese import I bought in Durham u.k, With an adapter the cart worked on the mega drive still) in the early nineties it was immense.
Gynoug is such a cool game:D
