You left out one of my favorite parts of the Mystical Ninja. It had so many minigames you could play and even an arcade within the game with more games to play. Having different games within a game you're already playing was such a novel concept for the time.
About 2 years ago I played Soul Blazer for the first time. Even after all of these years, the game was surprising fun and holds up very well, like so many other SNES classics. Truly a golden era!
Terranigma is the third one. If you havent tried it yet you should dedicate your life to playing it ASAP. I know that sounds extreme but im not kidding. Like stop reading this and go! K ill shut up now the more i type the more i delay you. Why are you still reading this?! Go!
I personally love this game. I played the first one and the second really does flesh out the events and beginning of the first. I honestly loved the art style and music, it was truely underrated.
One of the big problems with Lufia 2 that killed it is many copies of the game were shipped with a glitched dungeon that could make it unplayable (visual glitch, all you had to do is walk up and hit a button and you could go past it). It also had many difficult puzzles before the internet. It is so expensive because finding a unglitched working copy is rare and it was a very inovative game ahead of its time.
@@elgatofelix8917bro you need to play this. ONE OF THE BEST GSMES EVER MADE! You have no idea what you’re talking about and do yourself a favor and enhance your life with this game!
if you want to play both SNES Lufia games then you need to play Lufia II first. Not just because Lufia II is a prequel but because the original Lufia starts with you playing the last battle of the previous heroes which would eventually become the ending to Lufia II which spoils a lot of Lufia II plot
Nothing about Lufia II's plot is spoiled in the beginning of Lufia 1. Things don't even play out the same. The first game makes it sound like the Sinistrals just appeared with their island and started attacking places. It even said that armies tried to fight them. We don't even know how the characters get there. While the meaning of the dialogue is the same, there's no emotion behind it, and the whole thing completely lacks context on its own. It just sets up the story of the rest of the game. The only thing that's spoiled is that Maxim and Selan die at the end, which honestly I think makes the story of Lufia 2 that much more compelling.
That’s the point…so that when you play Lufia 2 the prequel, the ending is a 🤯 when it connects to the story of 1 and you understand how Lufia story came to be. And lufia 2 (at first makes you think it’s a continuation of the previous game) is delving in to what took place prior. That’s how you appreciate the story more and kept gamers engaged. Same way movies do this
@elijah420stuffs2 they didn't develop Soul Blazer or Terranigma, that was Quintet. Or EVO, that was Almanic. Enix was definitely willing to publish out there games, tho

Lufia 2 and Soul Blazer, in particular are 2 of my personal favs(good gameplay, good story, great music) and I personally made a video on Ignition Factor on my channel years back.

Finally a good list of hidden gems, which i didn't play, that's coming from someone who had a SNES back in 95! Spore was mostly inspired by EVO, which is a great game even though it has his limitations regarding the evolution part. Lufia 2 is one of the few RPG's that i didn't finish because at the time my english was quite basic, but i recall playing later on but didn't had much freetime, so still on hold. Lastly, i first knew Goemon games due to the place where i rented my SNES cartridges, belonged to an japanese couple, and i played in their console before i had my SNES. only later i found out about the localized ones. Great game too and quite hard! At least it was at that time. Thanks to this video i got to remember some good things, i'll try these other games in the list when i get some freetime! Great work!
I either have played or heard of most of these games. There are only one game on the list I hadn't heard of: The Ignition Factor. Two game I would recommend to take a look at is Super Valis 4 and Ys 3: Wanderers of Ys. Both have fast paced action, good music and nice visuals with a heavy dose of difficulty.
Yeah I'm curious. It looked like from the DS version of Lufia 2 but I couldn't find it. edit: It is from the DS version of Lufia 2. Specifically a character named Betty, a thief if I remember correctly
You could make a better case for Final Fantasy 5 being "underrated" over Lufia 2 because it was never localized until after it's time. In North America it may have been just another game on the shelf, but the PAL regions worshipped Lufia 2. They had so few RPGs available to them and it's legitimately a fantastic game.
Checked the description before watching and saw the list of games.. I played and looooved these ones way back when EVO Lufia 2 Soul Blazer Uniracers (such a fun racing game, it was incredible! I need to replay it sometime.. sadly it will be on emulator but eh., better than nothing I guess) EDIT: oh and I did play Phantom 2040 but can't remember it that well Another underrated game was that Tetris snake game, can't remember the title EDIT #2: Robotrek! @@TheRealNameless1 I mean $55 to $60 was no joke back in the 90's...We basically only ever got a new game or 2 for Christmas. Maybe 1 for a birthday if lucky lol.
One game that I consider a "hidden gem" is Alien 3. Yes, the game based on the movie. The graphics are nice, the sound is amazing, and the gameplay is solid. Plus, the atmosphere is creepy. Sure, the game may be a bit repetitive, but I had a blast with it. Also, Cybernator by Konami. This mech platformer is one of the best I've ever played.
For those of you that haven´t had the chance of playing Soul Blazer I urge you to do so. The controls are dated (but not terribly frustrating) but the story, gameplay and soundtrack are superb. Truly a gem and one of the few games that actually deserve a remake.
Legend of the Mystical Ninja is wild, I found it in a collection of ROMs on total accident, started playing it on a whim. It's really quite a unique little game, I never played anything like it back in those days, the Silver Age of gaming.

Robotrek was awesome. It was one of the first RPGs where you litterally built and customized your fighters, learned techniques through trial/error and one of the oldest games that had a crafting system. It's sad it wasn't as popular.
RoboTrek was a great game. Only real issues is having to backtrack for the higher level books in an otherwise liner game was a bit annoying and the Blackmore fight can be just playing cheap at times. Also it could of used a few more music tracks for verity. Otherwise I'd say it was a solid 7.5/10
Decent list. Needs more Secrets of Evermore though. Sorry I gotta take every chance I get to remind people about this amazing game. Also; least in my opinion, is way way better than Secrets of Mana; which it often gets compared too.
Exactly my opinion! SoE is often looked down on due to lack of coop modes. But overall it is in every aspect better than SoM! The Artstyle is more mature, the atmosphere is god like which is even more improved by the amazing OST. Bosses are better balanced and leveling all the weapons is way less tedious. A real gem I replay every now and then! 👍

It goes Soul Blazer Illusion of Gaia then after that Terranigma ( possible typo on last one) the game i own but have never played.
With all due respect, Lufia 2 isn't underrated. It's under-discovered. Everyone I've ever met or heard of that played it, loved it. It's just that, not enough people ever heard about it in the first place. It's a top tier game, still ranks among my favorites of all time, even today.
I think that’s what they mean when they say underrated. While we take the word literally and assume everyone knows the game and not rating it high enough, in the gaming rank world, underrated just implies, games that should have gotten more famous.l because they are great. Or were hidden gems not enough blow Iole knew about. Not that it ranked low and should have been higher
I'm curious, but how old was the person who put this list together? Many of these games were hyped in gaming magazines just prior and for some time after their release. I know Nintendo Power wouldn't shut up about Uniracers for several months even after the N64 was released. I'm not certain how some of these are 'hidden gems' based on that. I could see this from the point of view of a younger person who grew up with later generation consoles and thus didn't see the hype and circumstance of some of these games and they might have slipped the cracks in rereleases on virtual consoles or favorite rom lists.
Lol Nintendo Power was pure propaganda. I don't have my old mags but I don't remember a review that gave honest opinions, which is why I branched out to other mags like EGM. Most of these games might have been mentioned but most of the pages were dedicated to promote the games they wanted to push.
Yep, I came here expecting a mention of at least 1 of the Enix "trilogy" too, and man, was it the one I think is the better one of the 3 even though most people say something else.
The only other console game I can think of that does evoliving your character is the Dreamcast game Seventh Cross Evolution. I would not be surprised to hear it was a port like E.V.O.
The Lufia series wasn't really underrated, but I get that it's hard to find an underrated JRPG on the SNES... the reality is that it was pretty much the golden age of Squaresoft RPGs, and everything else paled in comparison. Honestly, if I try to think of SNES JRPGs that weren't published or developed by Squaresoft, Lufia is probably the most popular among them. Maybe Breath of Fire or Dragon Quest was more popular in Japan, but among US fans, I think anyone who was deep enough into JRPGs at the time to know of one that wasn't by Squaresoft was as likely to have played Lufia as any of the Dragon Warrior games or Breath of Fire, if not more so. It's too bad Lufia never came to Genesis/Mega Drive like they originally planned, it probably would have done better there.
What it misses? Well, have you heard or seen Cameltry or "On the Ball" as it was localized? Y'know what it also misses? Kirby Super Star Stacker, Popful Mail, Bushi Seiryuuden - Futari no Yuusha aka Warriors - Legend of the Blue Dragon & Tetris Battle Gaiden!
All the goemon snes games are great another hidden gem is legendary RPG Maka Maka 摩訶摩訶 wackier than any of the mother games never released outside of Japan and still relatively unknown even here. Day of the idea is another title that comes to mind.
You left out one of my favorite parts of the Mystical Ninja. It had so many minigames you could play and even an arcade within the game with more games to play. Having different games within a game you're already playing was such a novel concept for the time.

Who is the cover art of video from?
Loved Mystical Ninja.
So where did the thumbnail come from?
Where do you rate Shadowrun in this mindset? Evo was fun when you made the caveman, and soul blazer was one I played through a few times lol...
Yep, I came here expecting a mention of at least 1 of the Enix "trilogy" too, and man, was it the one I think is the better one of the 3 even though most people say something else.
i need to know! who is the character in the video thumbnail image?
Betty, Lufia 2
@@joebobsonofbillyjoebob9618 To be fair, it's Lufia: Curse of the Sinistrals, the DS remake.
@@Nergal134 i suppose you’d know better, i know nothing about the franchise & just looked it up.
@@joebobsonofbillyjoebob9618 Nice sleuthing in that case!
Anyone knows from what game the character in the thumbnail is from?
E.V.O is great, love that game
Uncharted Waters and its sequel New Horizons played different than most of the games that came out on the SNES. i believe they were also made by Koei.
I was really expecting to see Cannon Fodder here
Do EVO is Spore 20 years earlier?
The only other console game I can think of that does evoliving your character is the Dreamcast game Seventh Cross Evolution. I would not be surprised to hear it was a port like E.V.O.
X kaliber was amazing when i was a kid
So.. In X-Kaliber, that looks like a blonde Virgil. The storm approached very early.
Not to re-ignite any console wars but I feel like X_Kaliber would have looked waaay on the Megadrive
All the goemon snes games are great another hidden gem is legendary RPG Maka Maka 摩訶摩訶 wackier than any of the mother games never released outside of Japan and still relatively unknown even here. Day of the idea is another title that comes to mind.
Who is the character on thumbnail
Rampart for the snes is highly underated.
Who’s the character from the thumbnail?
Betty, Lufia 2.
Played uniracers to death with my brother back then. Also rock n roll racing.
Ever played “Demon’s Crest” for the SNES?
