  • www.VideoJoeKnows.com How a ceiling fan remote control module works is what this short instructional howto video is about. Is it easy to install a remote control module to a ceiling fan? Yes, it's very easy to install a ceiling fan remote control module. All you have to do is watch "joe's" videos on how a ceiling fan remote control module works...among other informative ceiling fan videos "joe" has prepared for you! You don't have a ceiling fan that is controlled by a hand held remote control? You're missing out!

    Those DIP switches are how to "PAIR" the remote to the receiver. This is done like that so you can have several fans and each one operates by it's OWN remote control. Otherwise EVERY fan in the house operates off 1 remote. Otherwise, great video.

    Thanks Joe You're the best hey one question joe I tried to put a variable speed control on a three speed fan but didnt work how to fix it

      Hmmmm not sure how to go about doing that as there are different ones for sure. Now days when you purchase a ceiling fan most ceiling fans come with the hand held remote & then you can do everything from the remote. You can even purchase them separately to install on an existing ceiling fan but be prepared to pay a bit over $50 for that way plus you will need to install the little remove goody up in the ceiling junction box. If your ceiling fan is looking tired anyway I would save the money for a remote for it & remove the entire ceiling fan & get a new one with the remote. New ceiling fans aren't that expensive at The Home Depot or Lowes & you can pick the style you like. Presto. What do you think? Thanks for your message..

    Hi,
    I’m trying to have wall switch control the main power to this remote control ceiling. Do i just need to connect the live and neutral lines from the receiver to a wall switch?
    I like i use wall switch for the light on the fan, so i would just turn on the light from the remote, and control on/off by toggle the wall switch

    • @VideoJoeKnows
      @VideoJoeKnows  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you toggle the wall switch on & off then that's not going to work. The wall switch basically is the power for the entire remote for the ceiling fan which would also include the light kit. If you have the wall switch turned off then the remote won't work at all...including the light kit. All that wall light switch is doing is turning the power on for the entire ceiling fan remote. See what I mean? Those remotes work differently than if you had an old style ceiling fan where you generally would have two wall switches....one wall switch would control the power for the ceiling fan & a different wall switch would power the light kit & the wiring will be different that if you were to wire up a new style ceiling fan with a remote sensor up there. You would wire the entire sensor & that sensor will then control both the power for the ceiling fan as well as the power functions for the light kit. Hope this helps answer your question...

      The wall switch turns the power on to the ceiling fan. All hand held remotes have a sensor device that you have to wire up way up high in the ceiling fan junction ceiling box. You wire the power coming from the light switch to the sensor device then the hand held remote operates off that sensor device which then controls both the ceiling fan functions as well as the light functions.

    Hi, i got 4 ceiling fans that came with remote control modules. I asked my electrician to install them bypassing the remote control module because i wanted to control them just by the wall switch. Guess what? All of them burned! I need help on how to correctly wiring them. The electrician says that the capacitor is on the remote control module, and when it was removed, then the fan didnt had capacitor and got burned. Please help!!! I already got new motors as replacement, but still want to avoid the remote control modules.

      Wow so sorry to hear of your issues. I'm wondering why you decided to bypass the hand held remotes for controlling all of your ceiling fans. what made you decide to do that? In the old days yes, all ceiling fans came with the 2 pull chains to control the ceiling fans then they started to install light switches in the wall, one for the power for the ceiling fan with the ceiling fan pull chain to control high, medium, low, off on the ceiling fan and then another light switch to just control the light if in fact you had a light kit installed on a ceiling fan. That was in the old days. It became a lot easier now (in present day) to have the ceiling fan controlled to a hand held remote which would control everything on the power for the ceiling fan as well as controlling the light for a ceiling fan. They first use to only sell most ceiling fans with the pull chains then you had to look on the shelf to see if you could in fact purchase a new ceiling fan with the hand held remote included & now most of the time anyway you can go to a hardware store & purchase most ceiling fan that include the hand held remote as well as the sensor unit that is installed right up against the ceiling. I am surprised that you want to bypass the hand held units altogether & just control at the wall switches. Now days most ceiling fans still have at least one wall switch that will control the power for a ceiling fan but you would just leave the wall switch in the on position all the time to then operate your hand held unit to control all functions on a ceiling fan. Some people don't like the hand held remote mainly people with kids or investment owners who have rentals since people are always losing the hand held remotes! The last couple ceiling fans I installed the hand held remotes come with a little plastic holder that you can screw to the wall then place your hand held remote in there & for me I found that I would just leave the entire hand held remote in the plastic holder & act as though it was just like a wall switch & turn the ceiling fan on & off, etc. right there on the wall without lifting the hand held remote out & leave it on the night stand only to have wifey say "where's the remote"?! So please tell me your thoughts as to why you really don't want the hand held remotes to be wired up to your new ceiling fans. I understand what you are thinking that they could just not install the remote sensor unit up at the top of the ceiling fan up against the ceiling connections & I would've thought that the ceiling fan would then work just like how all the old ones use to work with just the pull chains but then again maybe they won't work that way because of how they make up new ceiling fan with all the led stuff they have on them now days & maybe that's why they fried the motor(s)...? Not sure but you know those new ceiling fans that come with the hand held remotes you will never see pull chains connected to the motor for power or lights so maybe that's a hint as to why they won't work with the sensor unit being installed...? The best thing I could suggest is to go to your local Home Depot or Lowes let's say then go to the electrical department & discuss your issue with a sales person who can tell you what is happening & if it's possible to do what you are wanting those ceiling fans to do. I am not a licensed electrical contractor but I know a lot about different things that have to do with electrical but not about your question. I wish I could help you more but if you go to Home Depot or Lowes you could also look at the ceiling fans they sell to see if in fact they still sell any ceiling fans with the two pull chains & if they do I am thinking you may have to purchase that type of ceiling fan & then all the electrics to the motor unit , etc. will be wired the way you want with the inerts to the ceiling fan motor. Not sure where you purchased the ceiling fans initially but maybe you can return all of them & get your money back by saying the motor wiring burned up & you're not sure why. I have a feeling that the same thing might happen again if in fact the new style ceiling fans that come with a hand held remote the motor assembly might in fact be wired up differently so that the motor will work properly with the hand held remotes. Let me know if you have more questions but not sure if I have anything more to suggest from my end. Here's something else. One of my older ceiling fans have a remote with the sensor up in the ceiling etc but the remote to operate the ceiling fan is one that gets installed right in the wall where the wall switch would be located & I control this one ceiling fan right from the wall to dim the light & turn the ceiling fan to different speeds etc.. If you like that idea you would of course have to find a ceiling fan that comes with that type of style of remote control instead of the hand held remote...just a thought for you. I would love to hear back from you...thanks!

      @@VideoJoeKnows I got the fans from amazon. I have the 4 fans in the same room, it makes no sense at all having to turn them on with 4 different remote controllers.
      Let me know if there is a way to re-wire them bypassing the remote control module.
      TIA

      @@juliofabrega916 I'm not sure if there is like I had previously explained. Let me know if you can get the ceiling fans to do what you are wanting & how you went about doing it.
