    i have a separate fan and light switch on the wall. will this disable the two separate switches? where only one will be the fucntional one? thanks for the great tutorial btw!

    • @ceilingfans101

      Thanks for watching. We would recommend capping off both switch wires and connecting this to the house constant supply wire. That way the receiver is constantly connected to power and won't disconnect from the WINK system. If you ever want to remotely control your fan/light when your away from home, you won't be able to if the switch if off. If you want to connect it to a switch, you'd have to connect the receiver to one switch and cap the other. This would allow you to turn the fan and light on/off at the same time. There is not way to wire the receiver to 2 separate switches. The only other option would be to wire the light wire from the fan directly to the wall switch (bypassing the remote receiver). This would allow you to use the wall switch to turn the light on/offm but would omit light control from the remote and WINK system.

    Great video! I thought I followed it to the T, but I also installed a universal remote (Your other video), the fan works perfectly, but the lights won't come one. I do not plan to use my phone, so I didn't purchase the Wink. Any troubleshooting ideas?

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      if your fan has a pull chain for the light, try pulling the chain once and then try the remote to turn the light on. Basically, the fan has to be set to high speed using the chain and the light set to on using the chain before using the remote. If the light is not set to "on" with the chain the remote will not turn the light on. If that doesn't solve it, make sure the wiring is connected correctly. Sometimes a wire may come loose after it is connected. If those tips don't help, I would suggest calling Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-HD-HAMPTON (1-855-434-2678)

    Thanks for the video, the included instructions weren't very clear but does include something you didn't mention. Once I got it installed, the lights wouldn't dim. Turns out that there is a switch inside the remote's battery compartment that controls whether the lights are dimmable or not. It was set to non dimming.

    I’m just curious if the wink hub tracks the state of the controller. If I turn the light on with my remote, will it show on the app that the light is on? Or will it still show the light is off on the app?

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the fan current state is reflected in the app. If your fan is on speed 2 with the light half dimmed, when opening the app, it should show that same setting.

      The remote will function like a standard remote without the hub. The hub is only needed if you want to be able to use the smart features like App control and scheduling. I don't know about hacking the remote to work with your TV remote.

    Hey ! why did u turn the fan on high speed before turning the switch off ?

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The fan needs to be set to high speed and the lights need to be set to "on" before using the remote. The remote won't work unless the fan is set to high and the lights are set to on prior to using the remote. If you are doing this as a fresh install - meaning installing the fan and remote at the same time - you can install everything and then just set the fan with the pull chains before using the remote. Typically 1 pull of the chain sets the fan to high and one pull of the light chain sets the lights to "on". NOTE: if the remote receiver is installed, the fan won't start and the lights won't turn on with the pull chains. But, once the chains are set then the remote can take over control. Think of the pull chains as a switch. Hope this clears things up.

    Does having your fan on high speed before you turn it off make a diffrence

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure exactly what you are asking. If installing this remote with a pull chain fan, the fan needs to be set at high speed using the pull chains before using the remote. If you are asking about turning the fan off when it is operating at high speed, it shouldn't be an issue. You do not need to cycle through the speeds before turning the fan off.

    • @nicksgarage2
      @nicksgarage2 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn't make a difference. I put a new fan in at the same time as putting the module in. Once installed, turn on the power and use the remote to turn the fan on high and then change the speed manually on the fan until you get the highest speed. Also check to make sure the light is on if it has one.

    3 way switch? Extra red wire in installation. Is there a way to hook this up or is it only meant for a single switch?

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We would recommend installing this to the house constant supply wire and not installing this with any switches. That way, the receiver is constantly getting power and the connection to the Wink hub is constant to allow for constant connection. If you turn it on/off with a switch, you will lose the ability to control it with the app if the switch is off. We would recommend just capping off the red wire from the house and installing with just the standard house supply wires.

      We have a red, black AND white coming out of the house. Capped the red from the house, did white (h) to white (r) and black (h) to red (r). Nothing. If I remove the remote and hook the fan up normally, (red to blue, black to black, white to white), it works perfectly. Any suggestions?

    • @FernandoRodriguez-ds5ri
      @FernandoRodriguez-ds5ri 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps the two wires from the house go to the receiver 2 wire side. And the 3 wires from the receiver go to the fan.

    • @dumpvideo
      @dumpvideo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ceilingfans101 I believe this is similar to my situation. The fan is basically controlled by the pull chain. The wall switch controls the lights. The wiring from fan to house right now is: black to black, white to white, and blue to yellow (I don't know why it's yellow). So... if I install this controller, it would be from fan to controller: black to black, white to white, blue to blue. From controller to house it would be: black to black, white to white, nothing to yellow (cap and ignore)?

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dumpvideo sounds about right. We're not licensed electricians, but the yellow wire sounds like a switch wire which would be capped. If you have any doubts, we would suggest calling an electrician, just to make sure everything is wired correctly.

    i just installed a hamilton bay fan and a universal remote for a 3 speed fan works well but when i turn on the light from the switch there is a 5 second delay and the light turns on how can i fix this?

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A slight delay when using a switch is normal when a remote receiver is wired in. Think of the receiver like a mini computer that has to boot up to power the fan when the switch is turned back on. The delay is also a bit of a safety measure to prevent the receiver from being damaged by power surges.

    What will happen if I don't install the rubber inserts on the fan base? Do they have a purpose?

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rubber pads are spacer to make sure that the canopy doesn't cut the antenna wire. Without the rubber spacers between the mounting bracket and ceiling, the canopy may not have the gap needed to allow the antenna to stick out.

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, fans should not be connected in a chain. The power will not distribute evenly and could cause noise/humming issues as well as other power issues. Each fan/remote receiver should be wired on its own power supply.

    Fan now wobbles at high speed, I think the thick rubber bumpers are the issue, it was fine before

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would make sure that the mounting bracket is completely tightened after putting the rubber washers in place. Also make sure that the ball of the downrod is properly seated in the mounting bracket so the slot of the ball is sitting on the tab in the mounting bracket. Both of those things can contribute to fan wobble.

    My ceiling fan remote is lost and there is no available replacement remote. Can I use this? Bypass the pcb, wire it directly to this?

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the question. Without knowing which fan you have, we can not answer with 100% accuraracy. In general, this remote is compatible with most downrod style ceiling fans. The included receiver would need to be installed in the fan's canopy and connected to the fan and house wiring. If your fan has a built-in receiver that can not be replaced, or a DC motor, this remote will not be compatible. In most cases replacement remotes can be ordered by calling your fan's manufacturer.

    Do u have a video of reseting the controller

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do not have a video for resetting the remote/receiver. The process is easy. If wired to a wall switch, just turn the wall switch off for 3 seconds, then turn it back on - Repeat the off/on process 5 times. Once the reset is complete, the light on the fan will blink. Then you can reconnect the remote with the WInk hub. If you're receiver isn't wired to a wall switch, do the same off/on process at the breaker box.

    • @ceilingfans101

      @@issaorangecounty7052 The Wink app will walk you through the pairing process. If the remote is not able to pair with the hub, you should see the option to reset the device in the app. This basically has you starting the process with power to the receiver off (at the wall switch or breaker box). Turning the power back on for 3 seconds and off for 3 seconds and then repeating 8 more time for a total of 9 times. Once the reciever is reset, the light should blink and the fan should move. So, I went on your channel and watched your video about your fan installation. First thing is that this remote is designed to function with the WInk system, not the Smart Things system. We know that there have been "hacks" posted online about how to make it compatible with Smart Things, but that may cause some operational issues. If the speed settings are not acting properly with the handheld remote, then we would suggest contacting Hampton Bay customer service as there may be an issue with the receiver. If the speed settings are only acting up through the ST app, then that is an issue with Smart Things compatibility. hope this helps!

      How to install ceiling fans I meant to delete that video since I figured it all out, but let me give some background, I have had this Hampton bay “chainless” fan for 5 years, a few years ago I noticed that the remote that came with fan buttons were off, “Medium was HIGH” & “High was medium speed”. So I swapped the remote & receiver to the zigbee & the same issue with “High” being “medium” is still occurring. So now we know it wasn’t that old remote/receiver... could it be the fan itself?! Hmmmm

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like a capacitor isue with the fan itself. You should call Hampton Bay customer service at 1-855-434-2678 and one of their team members will be able to troubleshoot and send you a replacement capacitor if that is indeed the issue. We know it's not the zigbee remote since the problem was happening before and since it is still happening, we know it's not a receiver issue which leads to the capacitor not regulating power to the fan properly. Usually an easy fix one the replacement is received. Good luck!

    I don’t see why anyone would need to be able to control their fan or light from anywhere in the world? If I was out of the county on vacation I’m not using my light or my fan so why would I need to spend a crazy amount of money on this when I won’t even be hone? All my stuff gets shut off before I leave so I guess I’m wondering why I would need it? Can you give me a good reason why I would need this? People for hundreds of years have never had to be able to turn on their fans or lights from across the country. Lol I’m confused seems like a complete waste of money. Now a remote to control it from sitting on your couch now that make sense but not around the works when your not even home, that just seems stupid to me.

    • @ceilingfans101
      @ceilingfans101  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Along with being able to control the fan from anywhere is the ability to set schedules. One good reason to use this when you are not home is for security purposes. This allows you to turn the light on which can make it appear that someone is home. If you are out of the country, you can turn the light on and off at various times to make it appear that your house is not empty and open to nefarious individuals who may wish to take your belongings. Another reason would be to turn the light on before entering the house late at night so that you are not entering a dark house. This remote also allows you to create schedules for the fan and light to turn on at predetermined times. For example, if your morning routine has you waking up before the sun comes up, you can set the light to turn on in the morning instead of trying to locate a remote or switch to turn the light on - saving you precious time that can be used to expedite getting coffee into your system.
