    I think, everything is very quick in Korea especially when it comes to wiring system including the credit card charging and approving system. For example, it takes only a few seconds to transfer $100.000 through your moble phone banking.

    So true about the quick credit card read in Korea! I am currently in Korea, and I noticed it day 1. It’s funny I was not the only one thinking that. Perhaps it’s due to the fast internet connection? 🤔 I love watching your Korea trip videos! 😍

    The Korean card thing is really just a cultural thing. In Korea there is a big emphasis on convenience. From paying for things online, convenience stores etc. Everything is supposed to be easy. If you use Korean cards you don't even have to put your PIN in and if you pay for things online, in the uk you need to put in all your billing info, in korea its literally just card number, expiry and security code, thats it. instantly done. Everything must be fast and convenient haha.
    Another fun video c: I love the videos where you just explore areas, I love exploration videos and making them too, but I think they get less views than others because they don't have a fixed aim alot of the time ^^"

    • @StephandPete
      @StephandPete  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    • @themilesinkorea
      @themilesinkorea 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, Kairu, investigation sounds like an intriguing style for us to use! Interesting to see your reflection on the views in this respect.
      I agree, convenience is a big thing here, though there's the odd mishap or two!

    GS25 is read "G" "S" 25. I believe it is a division of LG. LG used to be Lucky Geumsung(meaning Gold Star). Currently, LG is divided into GS group and LS group.

      Little bit of history here if I may.
      When the founder of LG (Koo, In Hwoi) was starting up a business, his wife's family ( 허씨 가문 Hur's family) invested into business and formed a partnership (6:4) which lasted more than 50 years until Hur's family took its own share and began its own empire which is under GS.

    A lot of the drinking culture in Korea is alchohol with food. So, some places that seem to be restaurants are really Korean style bars or pubs. A lot of places require you to order food with alcohol. But, it is something you should try as Korean bar food is different than Korean restaurant food. Because of the drinking culture that includes food, I usually don't eat dinner before drinking. I suggest not eating dinner, especially if you are bar hopping (something that Koreans do also), because you will most likely have to order food at each establishment.

    • @StephandPete
      @StephandPete  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yes, this is a good point. Same with many cultures, but definitely not true in the US/UK so sometimes we forget! Hard to break the habit. We should have tried some of the "restaurants" instead of rushing to as many bars/pubs as possible.

    Hi Steph and Pete! Really enjoying your Korea series, I've been sharing the videos with friends to get an "preview" for an upcoming group trip we all have together in October.
    Just wanted to add a tip for those day-afters. Pretty much every convenience store in Korea will have 컨디션 or Dawn 808 or something similar for hangovers. The stuff works really well and combined with a Pocari Sweat and/or Gatorade, will get back to feeling normal in like half an hour or less.
    Looking forward to more videos and seeing Steph's parents! Appreciate you all sharing a slice of your lives!

    Irrelevant to this video, but I just wanted to let you know that there are several big parks that have big sand play grounds that Hays might like a lot. Enjoyed the video (though sad to see you could have had more fun than you actually did), which brings me to my two suggestions when it comes to going out for fun on a Tuesday night in Seoul: 1) Unless it’s Gangnam (where money gets spent any night of the week), it’s going to be challenging to randomly stumble upon cool bars and hot night life in Seoul. 2) With pre planning and some more research beforehand, I think you guys could have found some really good spots there even in Yeonnam on a Tuesday night
    Activity suggestion: Try an Izakaya (Japanese bar), I think you’ll both like it!

    9:10 hahahahaahhahahah oh man I was dying from heart ache for you guys. I saw a Netflix show called Paik's Spirit covering various Korean liquor. Episode 3 had a legit cocktail bar making cocktails out of korean spirits. I'm not sure if it has a "date night" atmosphere as the scene was lit up for the show. However, check out the google reviews. It looks more dark lit in the review pictures. But the cocktails would really be up my alley. Might be worth checking out if it's nearby. Bar Cham (바 참)in Jongno-gu. Stupid youtube won't let me post the address.
    In so far as breaded fried chicken, man I'd have to say it's really hard to beat Memphis style fried chicken (Gus's chicken is my favorite) or some that I had in Louisiana. That said, I think you should try Tong Dak (it means whole fried chicken) usually served at beer bars. They take a whole chicken and half it before they fry it. Pluck the pieces of meat out and dip pieces of it into a salt/pepper mixture. Simple and delicious. I've only had Korean Breaded Fried Chicken once so I can't argue Pete about this. But definitely try the Tong Dak.

    • @StephandPete
      @StephandPete  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've read about Bar Cham! And someone here also recommended it. It looks really, really cool. Will have to try it before we leave. And would you believe that I'm from Chattanooga but have never really been to Memphis? I have a friend from that area who also adores Gus's though. I'd love to try it! I always see photos on her Instagram and it looks amazing. I'll look out for Tong Dak! I think we had it recently with my parents so if you see it in the vid, let me know. Maybe it was something else.

    Aww man, Yeonnam-dong. My former neighborhood. Where my liver and kidneys sorta just gave up after 2 years+ of globalized-to-the-extreme cuisine and alcoholic beverages debauchery. Dunno if you're still in my country, but I hope we've been good or are being good to y'all.
    And maybe next time you're in Yeonnam-dong, perhaps a visit to my all-time favorite watering hole, 'white whale.' Named after Moby Dick and themed on Ahab's vessel, with an enchanting host. It's right by that women-only bar and Develop, down alley 38, semi-basement level like that house from Parasite (they have a toilet exactly in that style). With a giant whale-shaped alabaster-or-something-else sculpture thing hanging right by the entrance. Easy to miss. I'm a person who believes a good barkeep is what makes the bar, and here the drinks are well-constructed, the food dainty and consistently well-thought-out, and you have a barkeep who's attentive and well-learned, talented in the art of course, knowledgeable, conscious in all the right ways, and just in general well-mannered well-informed and well-natured. Most pleasant woman I know after my wife. Oh, and she makes a bloody good bloody mary too. You don't find those too often in Korea.
    Oh and you hit Kae's place too! Well done.

      Ah I thought I responded!!! Really love getting recs like this! We won’t be staying there again this time unfortunately but we’re not too far away right now for a few days and I have a friend visiting this weekend. Maybe we can check it out!

    Just a Korean passing by. The neighborhood is called and pronounced Yeon Nam Dong. Just so people don't get confused looking for Yeo Nnam in the future.
