I wanted to say there is no harm in sallying out if one is careful, then I saw what happened to your round shields in Corinth 😄😄.
Also, during sally it’s useful to have some cavalry by the front gate to pick off the units that fall behind, like the praetorians that testudoed in the first sally.
And pay attention to their sounds, when they decide to leave the battlefield they will shout things like “fall back” and “flee”.

I’m slowly getting better at sallying now 😂 Took awhile as Spain with the limited roster but it’s a good way to learn all the tricks
