    No way I'd wait 45 minutes or even an hour for a Döner Kebab. You can have a decent one on almost every corner in Berlin without the long wait. If you have to tick it off on your to-do list because your travel guide said so you might be inclined to go through that ordeal, otherwise just spare your time and enjoy the city. Greetings from Berlin!

      Mustafa is for tourists. Berliners have Döner somewhere else.
      Walking 5 minutes from Mustafa you will find other Döners with crispy meat as it should be.
      Every S-Bahn and every U-Bahn got some Döner.
      This in public transportation in Berlin. Most people don't bother about a car as the trains run every 3 to 10 minutes.
      Most people in Berlin cannot afford a car and there is no parking space anyway. Public transportation makes more sense than driving round the block for a parking spot for 20 minutes.

    It is not the best döner kebap in Berlin. Real Berliners never eat from this place. You can find only tourist or Germans from other cities there. With almost no exceptions, you can find real locals at this place.

    I've been all over Germany, and I have tried all kinds of döner. The best I've ever came across was in Gießen Germany. There is a place called the Döner triangle in Gießen (well it's known as that to the locals). In this one location there are about six Döner Restaurants in very close proximity to each other. Here you can find what ever floats your boat. I like the Döner king because of the sauce and meat they have. They have six different sauces to choose from. My friend swears by the one called tandoor or something like that where they cook the bread in a wood stove. I think a lot of people like this place because of that but I find the Döner there to be small compared to the other places.

    From my Döner experience the meat is what makes a good Döner. Here it looks like they are using a standard, maybe more premium meat but still ordered frozen from a factory, like most standard Döner places do, they are using a standard gas system wich brings no additional flavor like a choal or woodfired system would bring... overall the döner is still very good im sure, but definetly not the best

      woodfire enhances the flavor of slow cooking foods. A döner may look like it's slow cooking, but it's just cooking the outside layer while the inside remains raw, and each layer cooks quite quickly individually. But yeah, woodfired stuff is quite popular, same with pizza. It doesn't ansorb any smoky flavour in the 90 seconds of baking, but still people who don't know anything about pizza think woodoven is better than gas or electric

Its not always about quality taste or service alot of shops got this right. @Yiğit Haluk Kurt this is German style döner. In Turkey I've never seen such colorful döner. Sure it's core ( meat is grilling while it turns on a stand) is Turkish but this version is unique to Germany. it seems this is a combine of Turkish-German culinary culture. ( I would love to try these). In Turkey to me the best döner is when we eat it on plate with rice, beans and cacık. In Turkey bread and dürüm doners are so simple it is mostly meat and some small additional veggies ( not much).

  • @MrDodobir
    @MrDodobir 3 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    Döner is not mid eastern food. It's an authentic Turkish food which originated in Bursa Turkey in the form of Iskender Kebap. Sure now many mid eastern countries(and also in countries at other parts of the world) have similar versions of it under different names but this does not make it a mid eastern food. The main differences between Turkish and German versions is that Turkish döner focuses on meat while German döner focuses on sauce.

    • @JeremyMacDonald1973
      @JeremyMacDonald1973 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What really stood out to me was the sheer amount of vegetables in the German version and the fact that it really is not a wrap of any kind but just a mass of meat and vegetables between two slices of fairly thick bread. No complaints with the sauce I had in the German Donar but I think I usually like the nice mix of sauces in a Turkish version better.
      Anyway they are both good and you can see where the German one traces its ancestry back to Turkey, but they are a somewhat different experience.

As a turkish person being born, growing up and living in Berlin, I personally have never eaten at Mustafas because I would never wait that long for a döner but I'm sure that it tastes good! Thank you so much for making a video about this and also talking about the history of it because if I see a video include döner, they often just say that it's a german street food which is true but... you know, not really, considering it's original form is from turkey etc
