      Thank you! I started peri in my mid-30s (possibly a bit earlier) and so did my mother. Mom is now 66 and I’m 38. My mom says having been past menopause, she’s strangely never felt more stable and confident of herself. I can attest, she’s doing things and picking up hobbies she’s never pursued before. I’m looking forward to getting past this and only hope I get through it sooner.

    I am 42 years old, I went to my doctor with a bunch of these symptoms. The doctor had no reason for my increased coldness, funny tasting of foods, or the sharp pains that suddenly come to me. After watching this video I am fairly confident that I am in perimenopause. Thank you for normalizing this!!!!

      Try real soap. Not the liquid one, real soap made with natural fats and lye. (So no glycerine soap either!)
      I know they got a bad reputation because of their slightly alcaline pH, but it really makes a difference. I had problems with stinky stress sweat all my life, but since I switched many years ago, it is mostly fine.
      My husband has the problem too, and when he uses normal shower gels he smells again quite fast. It's no problem if he uses soap, even without a deodorant.
      I hope this can help someone out!😊

      Drs add to anxiety symptoms because most deny or don't have knowledge of the weirder symptoms and speak with bemused, condescending attitude (yes in this day and age, sometimes i feel like I'm sitting in a cave with my gp in his fur pelt and club beside me). SMFH..apologies for swearing but I'm aussie and the lack of compassion and couldn't give af attitude is insufferable. Imho a completely different tact must be applied to menopause not just a couple of meds and "deal with it - its natural".

    I can add to the list-breast pain only in one breast, for me it’s the right-started in peri and continues at age 59, it comes and goes and can be fine for several months and then comes back-I’ve had breast ultra sounds, mamos every year, breast thermography and all is well. Also the lack of wanting to do anything…I just don’t feel like doing anything, being social, even running errands can make me feel overwhelmed. And when I do go out socially I feel very anxious. I forget where I park as well but a little trick to help remember is park in the exact same area each time. Like in the same row preferably on either end of the lot. That way I know I'm in the first row. I've also had to push the lock button on my keys and listen for the car to honk and tell me where it is before I just learned to park in the same area each time. Our moms and grandmas didn't have access to this information, so if their moms and aunts and grandmas only told them about hot flashes, that's all they would assume was due to "the change." Anything else that happened they would assume was unrelated, and they wouldn't discuss it. Especially anything that made them think they were going crazy or getting dementia! They generally didn't admit to any such weaknesses back then, if they could hide it or avoid it! No one wants to be judged as "mentally unstable" or "a hypochondriac" for mentioning any symptoms that don't fit what they were taught were "accepted" symptoms to discuss. We are very fortunate now to have access to videos and comment sections like this!

    I'm 57 and had my last period 11 years ago. I've had some of these symptoms, though not all of them. The symptom that bothered me the most is hard to put into words. I can only describe it as feeling like I didn't belong in my own body. I would have times when I just felt like I wanted to crawl out of my skin. I no longer get that feeling post-menopause.

    • @Kireani

      I'm 47 years old, still have my period but the length of the cycle is different every month now. For the last six months I experience the feeling, that I dont belong in my body, and that I'm walking around like a zombie that is not fully aware of the surroundings (with brainfog, desorientation and a slightly nauseous and weird feeling, that I can't describe and never had before in my life) almost every day. There were so many times, I wanted to leave my body or like you said, crawl out of my skin, because I thought, I could not stand it any longer. Several doctors couldn't find anything, blood tests ct and mri scans were all ok. I experience most of the symptoms mentioned in the video, but what really botheres me the most is this strange, hard to describe feeling and the disorientation. You can't believe how happy it makes me, that for you this feeling vanished in post-menopause! Now I have hope that it's possible for me to get a bit of my normal life back someday too. Thank you so much leeanneowens4055! And thank you Kari Ann Wright for this video explaining other symptoms of menopause that are rarely talked about!😍

      Agree 100%! I've said for years, we, as woman are fairly ignorant to what goes on in menopause. I have medical/surgical induced menopause. I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer when I was 38, now 54. Had a regular period 1 week before my first radiation. After the 1st treatment, done! Not a hint of a period ever again. I did tons of research back then and found there was over 37 symptoms of menopause and I had 2/3 of them. When I spoke to a specific doctor regarding this he told me that most women it's like riding a bike down hill for 10 years. While for me, it was as if I jumped off a cliff. 16 years in and all the symptoms are the same. No sign of any going away anytime soon. I sleep with AC at my head and a fan at the foot of my bed. I always say I feel like a Roman candle. Plenty of others, Insomnia etc. I think younger women love the idea of no longer having a period but, I've said for years, I'd take one anyway over menopause.

    I'm 46. I started getting A whole host of symptoms that I would have never associated with menopause, some of which you mentioned, three years ago. It was only when chatting with an older female friend that I realised I wasn't actually dying/had heart problems/a brain tumor/diabetes (which I did get tested for), it was just peri-menopause! She got me on a supplement called Menopace which has helped tremendously. There really needs to be more education for women on the subject.

Thank you for posting this. We need all the help we can get. Sometimes even doctors are unaware of all the symptoms associated with it and they look at you like you have two heads when you try to tell them that it’s menopause related. I have had a couple of doctors tell me I wasn’t in menopause because I was too young. When I started peri menopause I was 40. Now I’m 49 and I am almost two years without a period. But the symptoms got worse after I completely stopped seeing it. It’s so weird.

      Whenever I read anything about menopuse it always says that menopause is over with by the early 50's. Also that it just consists of hot flushes and irregular periods. In reality there are dozens of symptoms. So reassuring that so many women commenting here are still having issues in their early 60's as I am. So sorry you are all still suffering. No one EVER mentions that symptoms can persist into the 60's. The worry around all this has been awful for me. Docs know nothing about menopause. Many thanks for this vid.

    I'm 46 and I have several of these symptoms. One thing that stands out is how stiff and sore and swollen my feet get sometimes. In the morning I am hobbling and limping for a good hour until things loosen up. And I keep bumping into corners, too, which makes me feel so silly. Some foods are unbelievably sour or bitter tasting now, whereas before I enjoyed them. Intermittent bouts of OCD occur, but that was something I always suffered from as PMS. Hot flashes, check. Thanks for sharing this. It makes it more bearable to know it is normal, and knowing it for what it is alleviates it somewhat. One more thing: It takes a lot longer to lose a few extra pounds, whereas before, once I started cutting out the junkfood and with moderate exercise, the weight would fall off rather easily, in comparison. So frustrating!

      This I had a hysterectomy at 35 but still have my ovaries. Since I have thyroid issues as well the only way I knew I was in perimenapause was by running a tsh test 1st then checking my estrogen. My symptoms are less intense, so far, then a normal woman with their uterus, but still present. I'm 53 now, hot/cold flashes, emotional, the spatial thing even though I only have 1 eye, memory fog, the electric kind of shocks. I took DIM for a while to help even out my estrogen and that helped a lot.

My poor family needs a jacket to hang out in living room. How can I get relief for these other symptoms...confusion, anxiety, can't sleep night after night, weight gain, headaches plus all of the other symptoms that are mentioned. • @Yosetime
      @Yosetime 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@loribaker-gould3415 I figure the side effects of estrogen treatment can't be worse than the menopause symptoms. I feel like I'm slowly dying anyway. Trying the hormone therapy before it's too late won't hurt anything. You won't know until you try and you also don't know how long or how severe your menopause symptoms will be. I think it's ok to do whatever you can to ease your symptoms. Nobody said we have to suffer just because our ancestors did. We have the technology now. It might help you. At the very least you might gain back some of that lost sense of control over your body. Just my thoughts.

      @@loribaker-gould3415 I really can't say how far I am into menopause, it's been about a year when the hot flashes started and 6-8 months with no period. But after a few weeks of the hot flashes(mine don't seem to be too bad), I started taking about 1/2 cup of soymilk in my coffee every morning. I've had no symptoms since. Give it a try for a week or two; worst case, you're out about 2.80. I just use the brand sold at our walmart, think it's Silk, plain. Has a slight vanilla taste to it too. Supposedly soy mimics estrogen in the body. Other supplements I've read that are supposed to help, black cohosh -haven't tried that one yet, no need to at this point. Black seed oil-was using that initially when I started the soy milk, so not sure if it worked or not. Tastes like a peppery oregano. And, evening primrose oil, was using that a little bit, but kept forgetting to take it so can't say if it works. Research all of those first.

    At 63 , I’ve been “done “ for over 10 years now and there are a couple more I experienced personally..Near the ending time of my periods, I suddenly developed severe plantar fasciitis in my feet. Being a horticulturist and on my feet 12 hours a day, this nearly did me in! Now I understand why… I thought it was because I put on a few lbs but no! And it lasted(so painfully!) for about a year and just went away one day! Also , I had terrible morning sickness and nausea with my pregnancies, and thats still happening quite often - hormones again I’m sure. But over time I noticed that my body hair has become virtually nonexistent, i always had scant pubic hair anyway and all other body hair I had was blond and sparse anyways too. But e.g; I only have to shave my underarms a couple of times a year, and legs- never. It’s like I’ve reverted back to being 10 years old again! I did not had a rough time with menopause though, maybe a very few handful of hot flashes that were especially bad. But in opposition to my body hair stopping its growth, my head hair is as thick and full as ever- thank goodness! And it grows very fast. I am still “intact” as far as internal organs go, but I am having some issues with anxiety/panic episodes/ sleep issues and some help with medication helps me. I am retired now and love my watercolors , cat and dear partner! Best wishes to everyone!

    Thank you so much for this video. I am 57, and I have experienced all of these. I am relieved to know that I am not alone. The phantom flu is the most disturbing. For me, it usually accompanies daily headaches and/or migraines. Thank you, again. The vibration is freaky too. I check my phone to see if it is on vibrate. I ask my husband, "Did you feel that?" The electric shock feeling is pretty trippy. I check my computer cord and the wall plug thinking there is a short somewhere. These things are not something I can talk to other people about. Young people think your are old and crazy. People nearing peri-menopause don't even want to think about menopausal symptoms. Men have no clue. It is great that we are starting to address these issues.

    I'm 60, and 12 years post-menopausal. This list is spot on. I remember when I started noticing the unpleasant change in my body odor. My husband of 35 years says I don't smell any different to him. But I know that I do. I also used to be pretty graceful, but have turned into a klutz, walking into stuff. It's an embarrassment. I swear it feels like bugs crawling all over me and I now have scars in the shape of scratches on my legs where I have scratched gouges in my skin. Also I’m so grateful that you addressed vaginal atrophy, I have actually gone to pee before and almost screamed from the pain as I had no idea during the night I had scratched myself to the point of tearing my skin down there. The sudden dizziness, hot flashes, extreme temperature changes, night sweats and spatial awareness are also disturbing, add to that the lack of sleep and brain fog/forgetfulness and it’s one hell of a ride. Another awful symptom for me is chronic migraines. I have at least 2-5 a week atm, with no cause for the increase. Also I’m glad to know I’m not the only woman being dismissed by doctors.

I just wish there was standardized medical research and treatment options for something to do about it!

    I strangely had the opposite experience with vision. My parents realized I needed glasses for nearsightedness when I was around 8. Wore them or contacts my entire life, never even questioned it . At age 54, about 7 years postmenopausal and a few years since my last eye doctor, I thought I needed a new prescription because my glasses were no longer helping much at all. The eye doc made me come back two times for testing. He said it was rare but my eyesight had actually improved - I didn't need *any* corrective lenses anymore! Went to the DMV the next day and, sure enough, passed the eye exam.... first time ever I didn't have that restriction on my license. Strangest (but coolest) thing ever!

    I think I had every symptom of menopause there is and you just added a few others. I had heart palpitations too and was very sensitive to caffeine. I was so frightened by the heart palpitations that I went to see a cardiologist who had no diagnosis but did manage to make me feel so bad about myself that I started to cry. He literally and rather coldly blamed me for being stressed out about a very stressful life! A jerk man of course! No mention of menopause ever. No one ever figured out why my heart was beating like that but I did when I realized caffeine was a trigger and menopause too. Now that I’m 63 I can finally drink caffeine again! I’ve become much more calm too and heart all normal again! No more other weird symptoms either. So weird though is this flu symptom! I used to get that all of the time during my later 40s and all the way into my 50s. I hardly every feel that anymore but would always be thinking I was gonna get a cold or flu and never did! Thank you for the insightful video! But I think men and women reverse roles when we finish menopause. Men become like miserable women with PMS and women become like happy go lucky men with no worries ! lol that’s why old ladies are always so sweet and old men are always grumpy! They lose their men hormones and have only the other and visa versa.

      I have a friend whose husband had to go on hormones after treatment for prostrate cancer. He apologized to her and said he now understands what she was going through. Men doctors could never understand something they wouldn’t normally experience. I too have noticed that caffeine is giving me heart palpitations and triggering hot flashes. I don’t know if I can quit coffee.

      @@lizg859 One person can’t really understand a symptom that is emotionally felt by another person unless they went through that themselves. Pain is universal but emotions are differently felt and relayed by each person individually. I think some men simply refuse to show empathy because they don’t have that emotion in them until maybe they hit male menopause!!! Lol. I’d like to think I’m wrong about that however. I was able to quit caffeine by switching to decaf and that made a big difference. Maybe try to wean yourself off by using half regular coffee and half caffeine and then get it down to no caffeine. I actually sleep better and feel less tired in the morning not drinking caffeine which seems counter intuitive. Heart palpitations are scary and still could be damaging if your heart is not pumping evenly. I noticed a big difference once I stopped drinking caffeine. I do now though occasionally have a cup of caffeinated coffee but still enjoy instant decaf too. I don’t get the palpitations except very rarely but I do notice the caffeine can make my moods more intense and I can get angry about stuff for no reason. Add the caffeine to hormonal changes or pms and Houston, we have a problem!! I always think that’s why some people drive crazy is because they are all hopped up on Starbucks or Red Bull and aggressively drive!

    Omg! Thank you! I had ovarian cancer four years ago, and they left my other ovary in because at 39 “they didn’t want me to go into menopause too early.” So much for that, because a year later my period became super irregular and I started experiencing all of these symptoms! Every time I ask my PC or my gynecological oncologist, they tell me “you’re fine,” and have never ellaborated on what was actually happening with my body. I guess I’m not insane.

      Same thing happened to my mom after that procedure. She went into early menopause and absolutely refused to listen when I suggested it. Months later, her postmenopausal friend said the same thing, she really agreed. I objected and she told me at 19, I don't get a say in grown lady things. 😂

SO MANY times I get weird shocks in my hands and thought I was losing my mind, not to mention the new swollen fingers everyday or going to bed with my hands and feet absolutely freezing only to wake up hours later soaked in sweat and have to change my top. I'm post menopausal and I still get phantom periods. It used to freak me out till I found out that actually happens. By the way, a lot of these symptoms are also indicative of a b12 deficiency, which is also common as we get older.

    • @ForestEdgeGardens
      @ForestEdgeGardens ปีที่แล้ว +25

      B12 deficiency is no joke! It can be lethal if it goes on too long, and nerve damage can be permanent even if B12 levels are recovered. If anyone is experiencing brain fog, tingling toes or hands, confusion, fatigue or anxiety attacks, HAVE THEM CHECK YOUR B12!! The level at which they consider it “too low” in the US is significantly lower than most countries, and you could experience harmful and permanent effects even in ranges that are “borderline” where doctors won’t think it’s the issue. I know this from first hand experience. They were testing me for every neuro-degenerative illness they could think of including MS, Lou Gehrig’s disease and others while I was wasting away, on the brink of losing my job and in a wheelchair because I could barely walk anymore. On every health forum online there was someone posting about this book called “Could it be B12?” And I was peeved that they were trying to peddle their book to people who were struggling for their lives. Finally, when the doctors were out of options and I had all but accepted that I might be dying, I purchased the e-book version of it… and it saved my life. Yes, it WAS B12 😢. After THOUSANDS of dollars in tests (some quite painful) and months of fear and worry, all I needed were B12 shots. (I also used Sublingual Methyl B12 tablets to get started).
      I strongly encourage anyone suffering from the symptoms above to do more research on B12!

    • @tracyroweauthor
      @tracyroweauthor ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ForestEdgeGardens I was diagnosed in 2016 with Pernicious Anemia after I ended up in the ER nearly dead. It's a shame how little even DOCTORS know about b12 deficiency, though I will say that my new doctor, who is much younger, seems to be more educated on the subject of b12. I work in a health food store where we try to educate people on B12 def. We see so many customers coming in with all the symptoms. Our modern diet, I think, exacerbates the problem and because cows and pigs are fed mostly feed and very little grass, they aren't as rich a source of b12 as they once were. Because of my condition, I have to inject b12 on a regular basis, as I can't absorb it anymore, but there are so many other causes of b12 def, including digestive conditions like Crohn's, SIBO, IBS, etc, medications like Metformin, statins, PPIs, and anti-biotics (especially fluoroquinolones) and even birth control, bariatric surgery and nitrous oxide (which DEACTIVATES B12). Americans have such a poor diet that I think there are more and more cases of simple nutritional deficiencies including b12 that go overlooked by doctors. Could It Be B12 is the bible of the PA/B12 def sufferers, and Sally Pacholok is an angel.

    As to body odor- Lume is my best friend! I believe Lume can be your friend too! No, it doesn't smell weird anymore, they improved the formula.
    Great video! I was never diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, but never really had an issue with focusing but have been experiencing that the last couple years! I found "brown noise" channels on TH-cam that help me focus. I've also made myself a "brain" (paper with all items I need to address during my shift - night shift nurse) to help me keep my thoughts better organized. Still, it's been upsetting and discouraging. Sometimes when giving report I can't think of the word I want to say! I feel stupid in front of my peers. Thanks menopause!

    I've been post menopausal 7 years. I began having sporadic periods early, I think...mid 30's?!
    At that time, my parents passed away 18 months apart, which was brutal. I've been dealing with an anxiety issue since 21.
    After my parents passed...my hair began coming in gray and I never had a normal period again. I do think stress is huge in this.
    Thank you for your knowledge!❤

    It’s good to know that disorientation is not Alzheimer’s then! I get cold and then hot, blurry vision, brain fog, all sorts of pain throughout my body. This video is reassuring. I started my menopause at 51 almost 52. It literally felt like I was dying and thought I can’t cope with that feeling that just comes over me. It much less now . I’m not on any menopause treatment as still waiting to see the menopause clinic. I took some Clary Sage oil as advised by some other video as mimics estrogen. I came off it quickly as it made me feel much worse. It does work but without the progesterone balance is what made me feel awful and out of control. I coping now but doctors just don’t help enough. Thank you good woman for helping us understand ourselves better.😊❤

    The change in odour was one of the first things I noticed, ugh. Also the change in food flavour. There was a marked change in vision, particularly the big decrease in my night vision, to the point I avoid driving much at night. Still worth it to avoid the pain and anxiety associated with periods and the stained sheets and clothing. I love being able to invest in really nice white bed sheets, cute underwear and light-coloured shorts and pants.
