Update: The powdered collagen I was using(in the video) ended up being unhelpful. I have since started using a liquid collagen that has been a true blessing for me. It has improved my discomforts by 50-60% so far and a list of other things. The liquid has a higher bioavailability so look for a liquid. 😂I mentioned fatigue twice when I was talking about vitamin b12. Oops! Sorry! Menopause brain!🤣

Just ran into your videos this week. I feel like I’m dying. I don’t recognize myself at all. I’ve put 15 pounds on in 6 months. I’m anxious all day to the point I shake and the panic attacks are increasing. The hot flashes are all day and night. I know I’m not alone and my husband is wonderful but I feel alone and helpless. I can’t take HRT or soy based anything, nor can I eat anything that acts like estrogen. So I’m going to try some of these suggestions. I prayed I’d find help and then I found you. I honestly can’t take feeling like this too much longer. Thank you for your videos!

Same here - except the flushes - I have the shivers. I could live with flushes - but not with heart palpitations, gut wrenches like I'm on a roller coaster - which initiates the elevated heart rate that can lead into tachycardia in my case, feeling floaty and out of balance, body vibrating internally. Frozen shoulders etc. I can't even walk down the street without having to call someone to pick me up because I can't make it back. The mask mandate the last 2 years put me into a frenzy, as I was thrown out of Dr's offices and diagnostic centres - 'cos I simply couldn't wear a mask with these issues. I'm finally seeing a Dr. recommended to me after 2 years.

So many TH-cam doctors claiming to be menopause specialists just go straight to HRT and then done. Can't take HRT? Too bad, can't help you. They claim to be advocates for women in this period of life but they are only advocating HRT and the rest are ignored. You Kari are the real hero informing women of how they can help themselves when the medical professionals won't or don't know how. Thanks for putting work into your channel! You are growing a community here of women who need to be seen and heard, I for one really appreciate it.

Glad to have found your video. Doing most of what you recommend as I became. Whole Food Plant- Based Vegan 10 years ago. I have not taken collagen. My doctors say there is too much risk for me to take HRT. We’ve move so don’t have Kaiser doctors now who told me before my periods ended that since Mom’s and my sister’s cancer were after menopause, that it was not genetic. Now I am post menopause 13 years and they feel the estrogen would promote breast cancer. Nope, plant foods make the body alkaline, for cancer to grow and metastasize, you need to eat meat, as it turns the body acidic, and meat gets to market faster by giving the cattle growth hormones. The growth hormone goes into us when we eat I and growth hormone and an acidic body are the environment which cancer can grow in.
So I do eat soy and tofu and I feel pretty good most days except for sleep. I got a prescription sleep med as 2-3 hours sleep is just not enough.
I love walking and frequently get in 5 miles a day. We did join a gym. But, I am more a private person, and if my husband does not want to go, I do my indoor exercises at home. I thought the gym would help him.
      Thank you for your video.
I will share with you that when I quit eating animal, all things dairy were the first to go. I was in a wheelchair with arthritis and in 3 weeks I got out of that wheelchair. My mother had gout from animal protein and milk is liquid meat, gout does not always attack the big toes. So I knew what to suspect.
I was 200 lbs. in my early 60s, but have lost 80 lbs. and finally am keeping it off! Exercise speeds up the metabolism.

I’ve chosen not to go the HRT route. The saviour for me has been Intermittent fasting & supplements.
My symptoms (hot sweats, bloating, low mood, relentlessly painful breasts, sleeplessness, depression, anxiety)
All these symptoms virtually disappeared within two weeks of IF & have never returned.
I honestly feel better than I did in my 20s, my skin is great & I’ve lost weight. No matter how much exercise I did or diets I tried previous to IF, the weight just wouldn’t shift.
Supplements I’ve been taking for over a year are vit B complex, vit D, magnesium, calcium, biotin, collagen, iron & a chewy called meno balance.
I drink lots of water, two glasses of Apple cider vinegar daily & I exercise five days a week.
One thing I will say is that IF should be done slowly. Start off at 16/8 then after a few weeks add a couple of hours extra fasting time.
Now I only usually eat in a 4 to 6 hr window & I never eat after 6pm. I also do 2x24hr fasts a week & 2X36 hr fasts a month it’s taken me a year to get here but it has been 100% worth it.

I 100% agree with Omega vitamins for pain. I had leg cramps while I was pregnant. One person recommended them for the pain. I added flax, walnuts and sunflower seeds to my daily diet, and got cramps any day I skipped them. I kept up this habit long after having my son. When I was moving last month, I was skipping this because I packed everything. I could literally feel the cramps and pains kicking in, so I bought more to get me through the last few days before the move. I'm 42 now and I feel better than I did earlier in life. I get a lot of sleep, eat a plant based diet, I cut coffee because it sticks with me longer than most people. I don't think most people realize how much diet can change their life.

A few months ago I started feeling like I was having hot flashes. Paid it no mind. Fast forward to the day after I turned 40 in May, it like my health took a turn downhill. Racing heart, sudden spikes in blood pressure, tingling, feeling of nerves vibrating inside my body, pins and needles in my feet, stomach issues, weight loss, very dry mouth since May. Bad neck and shoulder pains ( grated ginger helps with the inflammation) anxiety levels risen, panic attacks, multiple ER and specialty Dr visits. Started taking probiotics to help with the gut because the gas that was moving around caused my heart rate to increase. Just to name a few. My massage therapist told my that what I was tell her were some of the things she also experienced, and she said that it may be menopause. So this morning I went to TH-cam to search of menopausal symptoms and boom came across your videos. Many women may be able to take HRT based on updated guidelines that include no limit on length of treatment. If your doctor is limiting your HRT be sure to go see a specialist who is knowledgeable about the very recent (2023) protocol changes. Almost all women can take some form of HRT with many more health benefits and far lower risk than previously understood.

Regarding Magnesium: this metabolizes out of our system daily, so it’s definitely important to stay on top of. Also, since it does this, a blood test may or may not give a true picture of your level, depending on timing and other factors.
Also, there are many formulas of Magnesium, so it’s important to look at the options and what effects they each have. Basically, Magnesium oxide just goes right through us, doing nothing, and many, many of the OTC products have this version because it’s cheap. And useless.
Regarding dairy, this can be inflammatory for many of us, so it can help to try to eliminate it and see how you feel! Not saying it’s easy, at least I know it isn’t for me 😅
I deeply appreciate your insights here and will share w/ my SOI, because the truth is no one, including our gynos, are really telling us what we need to hear. We hear that menopause is a thing, but other than a script (often just based on “normal range” not a personal “optimal range”), we get little to no other guidance.
So the value of your insights is phenomenal 🤩

I find what helps me is to remind myself I am okay and it is no big deal. It will pass and breathe deeply. It always passes. If I am in the car I roll the window down a little. The air helps me feel better for some reason.
I eat whole grains, avoid sugar and flour. I avoid rice and pasta. I eat healthy mixed nuts for breakfast. I add chick peas, pinto beans and potatoes to meals and skip the bread, rice and pasta. I drink lime juice every day. I eat a Flintstone vitamin twice a day and make sure to get calcium. The most important thing is diet.

We are at a time in life where we need to look after ourselves and find that we are looking after others more than ever which adds to a massive stress load. Time to say ‘enough and no thanks’ to demanding situations… IF we can learn how to do that. It would really help all the menopausal problems to be able to give TIME to our health management, once we have the tools. Then we can go to work on it. That’s our JOB now.

I am 51 and I still get a monthly period. I started taking collagen a few days ago (I saw this on one of your other videos). I am now working on getting my iron levels back up. I have adenomyosis and because of that my periods are heavy and I developed anemia. Once I get my iron back (I am taking a liquid iron supplement), I hope to get back to walking each day to help my body and to help with my sleep. Thank you for making this. I really don't want to take HRT and I would prefer to do it naturally.

It’s been an interesting journey. Especially since my mother had almost no symptoms during her change. My doctor said that I was too young (46 years old when I finally had a doctor to discuss with) for my symptoms to be peri menopause.
Thank you for helping make sense of this hell.

I feel like my periods started getting whacky at 46 and I was always very very regular, unless pregnant. (Im 49 now). I work with radiologists and I have talked to an older female radiologist about it bc I was uncertain if I could even be in peri that young. I dont really have any other symptoms other than the spare tire weight gain even though I do not eat fried or fast foods, mostly vegetarian. She told me that she was about that age when hers started and that I was not too young and that it takes a few yrs to go through (which I also didnt realize then). I sit for 10+ hrs at my job and my legs swell, even wearing compression socks. My family, both sides, die from congestive heart failure so I know thats what will get me and Im ok with that but I thought my leg swelling was from that. The doc tested about everything, did chest xr, US heart scan, blood tests and came up with nothing (though we didnt discuss peri at all). From watching these videos, Im wondering if the swelling is just a side effect of peri? And in the past yr have developed right hip pain from sitting too long (though I did ride horses from the age of 2-19 and my mom always said its arthritis from my legs being bow legged while growing. Could be) and have started having right knee pain also. Do have pain in my thumb joints and hands but I also have had carpal tunnel since identified since age 26. But Im wondering if all these recent developments could be from peri as well? I consider myself lucky though bc I have no other major health issues other than sinuses, which have also started bothering me again the past 4 yrs.

I am so happy I found your channel! HRT is a no go for me! My Mom had a hysterectomy in her 30s so she isn't well versed on the Peri and Post Menopause symptoms.
I began experiencing the hot flashes and night sweats in my 30s; I am 47 now. I take Dong Quai, Evening Primrose and other supplements mentioned to manage symptoms. I haven't cracked the code to getting a good night's rest yet but, I wrote down quite a few suggestions from the other comments. Sleep and fatigue have been the two biggest issues for me. Two game changers for me have been L-theanine (NOW brand from iherb) which is an amino acid from green tea. It's for stress, super naturally clears the mind, just feeling naturally capable and can relax or get on with the day. I take it in the evening unless i need to take it in the morning from stress.
Regardless, that evening, you will sleep the BEST sleep ever!
The other is Astaxanthin. From red algae. Again, clear mind, I can get up in the morning! It's like I'm interested in my life again and have that inner energy reserve I've been missing. Also NOW brand.

I’ve been having a lot of dental work, so I’ve been having a LOT of smoothies with all the berries (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries & blackberries), bananas, milk or almond milk, chia seeds, protein/collagen powder, and some M C T oil. I noticed it’s helped with a lot of my menopause symptoms-like constipation, anxiety, joint pain, etc. Some kind of exercise (the more the better) is the only thing that helps with my anxiety other than medication-and that was a living HELL to get off of. If I don’t take calcium & magnesium, I wake up with nasty leg cramps. All your advice was exactly spot on, and easy to follow. Thank you ❤!!

I was happy to find out I am already following your information because of previous health issues! But it's always nice to get some backup info when you're trying to figure out your own personal journey. I didn't see anyone mentioning red maca as a supplement. This has helped me tremendously. It's not a cure all but it definitely reduced a lot of my symptoms to manageable levels. Make sure you go with a good company for the purest form. I use gelatinized red maca from The Maca Team. I find it's the easiest on my stomach. There are a few articles out there where it's been tested in a controlled situation and it does seem to withstand scientific scrutiny!

@@hippychick77 I assumed so too at first, after my first surgery ,I spoke to the doctor and he told me. That it wasn't due to my Brain surgery.Cause I noticed I wasn't having my menses for the past 5 months, then it kept skipping months. Then it stopped for a year and has not returned since,I spoke to my gynecologist, she gave me a form that I need to do a hormone check ( which I haven't done as yet).

You have provided me with so much information. I have the intense itching, till I scratch myself up. Insomnia is a nightmare 😭 As I write this, I have been up for over 24 hours because my brain won’t slow down to let me sleep. I’m already irritable, but now I can cry at the drop of a hat. I will be 50 in April. I already have depression and anxiety, which I am medicated. I can’t take HRT because I have a heart problem. So, I listen carefully to what you say. You have helped me the most, because you’re very thorough with details and explanations. I think I also am getting the phantom periods… not a fan. My actual periods are still right around 28 days apart, give or take a few days one way or the other. They’ve been consistent, but my 2nd day is the worst for heavy flow. I’m not embarrassed to share that I wear adult disposable underwear to bed at night because it makes such a mess if I wear a pad with underwear 🙁 Thank you for sharing all your knowledge.

I take menopace plus which is a supplement for women as I am not a candidate for hrt having had ovarian cancer in the past -I tried the menopace original which worked brilliantly for 5 years and then symptoms ramped up the palpitations being the most scary to rear their heads again for me - and thank god within a week of taking the menopace plus my symptoms have alleviated and the palpitations have gone - I still get a little warm in the night but no sweats and I suffer with chills mainly which is now much better and now my worst symptom - but I’ll take that any day over how I was feeling initially I was depressed anxious exhausted and suffering badly - I took menopace original for 5 years and have been taking the menopace plus for almost 7 weeks so far and feel so much better - ladies gove it a go dont suffer any more than you need to I wish I’d found the menopace range sooner and I wouldn’t have had the 3 years of hell that I experienced prior to having them I was getting desperate and feeling really poorly and not like myself at all 😮! I just hope these ( menopace plus)give me another 5 years of relief before I will then go onto the menopace max if they (hopefully not)eventually wear off .so there really is hope ladies 😊

I'm finding this today... I'm having crazy hot flashes, can't take HRT because of family history of breast cancer due to HRT. Grandmother and cousin. You, my dear lady, are awesome! I love the acting. I'm laughing as I sit here, sweating my butt off, but have a heating pad wrapped around my freezing feet!! What the heck! I'm so glad I found your channel! I'll be 50 in June and have had two periods in the last 18 months or so, but get horrible phantom periods all the time! And the sore breast beast can strike any time! Hot flashes are fairly manageable right now and I'm not having bad night sweats, thank God...but the fatigue can be crushing!
I do not want any drugs...AT ALL. So, I'm hoping to make it through this without them.
Oh! I already do bone broths and powdered collegen. I also take iodine and add a sea vegetable blend to my food. I only use REAL salt as well. Lot's of good minerals in salt and we need it! Doctor's are crazy to tell people to reduce their salt intake...processed sodium, sure, but salt is life!
I make my own sole' water with Celtic Sea Salt and use Himalayan Pink or Redman's Real when cooking.

I'd add Vitamin C to your list. I take copious amounts of buffered sodium ascorbate. It just makes everything work better. Take to bowel tolerance and then back off. My daily dose is near 8,000mgs. It's just what my body needs right now. If I take less, my bleeding gums come back.

Thank you for these tips. As a recent breast cancer survivor on hormone suppression, for the next 5-10 years, menopause has been worse than living with and having fibromyalgia.
HRT is not an option as estrogen and progesterone feed my cancers. Some days I feel so overwhelmed and in pain. It’s so tough. Will definitely put these tips to good use. Need to increase my fiber for sure.
