Hi I have a question: which camera can I use with the rodecaster video. I have a Sony Z-ev-10 but I see that the cables of the rode are only Macro HDMI. So, does have rode cables that suits micro Hdmi? Or I need to have other cameras like the Sony Fx30, or similar? Thanks
Thanks so much for getting to the 1080p so quickly. Yeah that's a NO WAY. I use the Elgato 4k Caputure Card for all the camera and then just manage everything from OBS
When you do ISO recording, will it also save a track that includes the live cuts? So, for instance, you use the auto-switching feature for a podcast recording, but have the ability to paste over bits of synched video when you want to show a different camera in post? That would be enough to solve the XML issue for me.
It wasn't highlighted as much, which I think is crazy, but it also auto-switches cameras based on who is talking. And not just looping camera angles like macros on the atem mini or random selections like YoloLive. I'm not sure if it just takes a lot of processing power to do that in real time or not, but it really doesn't seem extremely complicated to have this as an out of the box feature for all video switchers. I had to hack it in OBS to do speaker-based live switching. I really wanted to like this for our podcast studio because just one button press for a non-tech user to sit and record their podcast is such a killer feature. But 1080p isn't crispy enough for podcast clips, only 2 xlr inputs means i need adapters for usb-c audio (which is ok, but not preferred,) and lack of physical controls just feels unintuitive to me. @livestreamingpros: Does the Rode Caster Video have a Video pass through option likte the streamer X? Or can I pass through the video of my speakers laptop to a beamer / TV and capture the video signal in ecamm?
You didn't mention if the ISO recording can be done while you're streaming. I assume it can, but I know the Atem Mini Pro ISO does NOT allow you to stream and record ISO simultaneously, while the Atem Mini PRO EXTREME ISO does. I've been wanting something that I can stream and ISO output at the same time but the damn Atem Mini Pro EXTREME ISO is gigantic.
Great video, thank you! My question-If I already have a Universal Audio Apollo Twin Duo interface, would it make more sense for me to grab this device versus the Atem Extreme ISO? - Main uses would be for Video Podcasting and Live streaming with 2-4 mics at a time while simultaneously recording to SSD.
If you are planning on using the Apollo Twin Duo as your audio interface, then in either instance you would need to select the Apollo as your audio source and then your switcher of choice as your video source. If you really have a need for 8 camera inputs, then I would go for the ATEM Extreme. Most people don't... and if you need more like 4-6 camera inputs, then the RODECaster Video would be the way to go because it could also remove the necessity for the Apollo if you desired to have your workflow consolidated into 1 unit. The RODECaster Video is great for audio, and I bet you would find yourself using it quite a bit for both audio/video purposes.
@@ThinkMediaTV Thanks for the great insights! I only need about 4 cameras and 2-4 mic inputs. One thing I really appreciate about this device is the I/O flexibility. Ideally, I’d like to record to an SSD while live streaming or live editing a video podcast. The multiple outputs on the Rodecaster Video seem perfect compared to the ATEM Mini Pro ISO. From your experience, do you think I could use the two mic inputs from my Apollo in conjunction with the two XLR inputs on the Rodecaster Video, or would it be better to use the two XLR inputs on the Rodecaster and invest in two additional USB Rode Podcaster mics for a 4-person recording?
Rodecaster Ultimate - Rodecaster Pro 2 and Rodecaster Video combination, 4 video inputs with iso recording in 4k, 4 xlr combo audio inputs with physical faders, maybe a bit bigger screen for preview, + xml support, all other bells and whistles, $1800 to $2000 price. Would you buy it?
Not sure I understand your question... If you are referencing the "Auto switch" feature, it can detect which mic is linked to which camera, and switch based on those inputs.
Well there aren’t really any video switchers for this price range that can accept that many XLR inputs, if any. The beauty of this system is that it can work seamlessly with the RODECaster Pro 2 and Duo to give you those additional XLR inputs that you’d need. Or you can use 2 Rode USB microphones in USB slots 4 or 5. Or even use HDMI audio from your cameras if you can run XLRs into them. Lots of solutions, and I think right now Rode is giving us the most audio flexibility.
@@ThinkMediaTV interesting, I’m currently using a rodecaster pro 2 into atem mini with the cable you guys recommended but occasionally it gets a weird background sound so I’d love to eliminate that portion from our workflow. If you connect the rodecaster pro 2 to the new video switcher will it identify each mic separately for the auto switching or do all 4 mics become one input? It’s disappointing only rode usb mics work because I’ve got a couple extra shure mv7 which are both xlr & usb which would’ve been nice for the 3rd/4th person
@@ThinkMediaTVwould you be able to use four shure sm7b mics plugged into a roadcaster pro2 that feeds into the roadcaster video? That is essentially what I was going to do with the atem extreme. Only thing that makes me lean more towards the atem extreme is you can have your cameras in 4K and it will down sample to 1080p for better video quality.
You can add graphics to the media pool in RODE Central and then display them with the media presets by pressing pads A through G. So you could have 7 different graphics loaded to these media inputs.
I would love to see how this integrates with OBS but at the same time with the rode software and the scenes does it make obs obsolete now? probably not but would love to have more thoughts on that
There can still be a place for OBS, especially if it is what you are most familiar with! You could just select the RODECaster video as your video source and keep your workflow more or less the same. But... the RODECaster software is really good so I would probably use that.
You can use the stream deck as a switcher. And lots of people need 3-4 cameras for streaming. Maybe not solo creators, but small production teams, media teams, churches, podcasters, etc. would be running more than 2 cams typically. Good question!
@@ThinkMediaTV yeah I just Wana do it like Sean does on stream yard. 2 cameras at the touch of a button, Make it super easy , u should do a quick video on how to do that set up w a elgato
I think a Yolobox Ultra is a better option with 4k input and just connect a Rodecaster with it and you will have a real high quality all. Monitor, switcher, streaming, audio and recording… of course the ticket price is higher but you have a much better option for 2024 standards !
I have the Rodecaster Duo, and it works beautifully. Now, I'm looking to get a video switcher. This one looks great, but paying that price for features I won't use-since they overlap with the Rodecaster Duo-might not be worth it. It might be better to go for a different video switcher, like the Feelworld L4, which is half the price..
See I already bought a rodecaster pro 2 a few months ago and my next purchase for my pod would be the atem mini pro, then I’ll just connect the two n use the 600 i saved not buying the rodecaster video on a new camera for another angle. But if I didn’t have the rodecaster 2 I’d be all over this. Damn😩🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
This is what RODE told us... "Webcam support is currently only for uncompressed sources, often referred to as YUV in tech specs. Typically, this will only be available on devices running superspeed USB, such as the Elgato webcams, the high end logitechs, Razer KIYO, Obsbot tiny, etc. Sony cameras also support uncompressed UVC, plugging in the FX-3 or ZV-1 directly to USB 4/5 should prompt for ‘streaming mode’. These cameras are a great example of the quality you can achieve with UVC." So it just depends on the camera you are using!
I can not remember if you mentioned Bluetooth connectivity, say you want to take phone calls during a live stream, other question is, how many social media platforms can you stream simultaneously?
Yes you can accept bluetooth devices such as phones to accept call ins. We aren't sure how many platforms you can stream to simultaneously. You can make several different stream profiles for each of the platforms, but I didn't see any clear information about how many platforms you can stream to directly. We will look into this for you!
Is it possible that they add 4K support just for the iso recordings in a future software update? I don’t care about 4K output for the switched video but it would be nice if it still gave you the 4K files out of the cameras (like the ATEM mini pro ISO)
I don’t know…. That would be AMAZING. But not sure if they will or not. I know they are pretty good about firmware upgrades, but that would be a big one and require a big marketing push to get the word out.
No there are only 2 XLR inputs. If you wanted 4 mics, you’ll have to use another audio board like the RODECaster Pro 2, and then connect that to the RODECaster Video. OR, you’ll have to use the USB slots and plug in Rode USB mics
@@KenTVtw seems odd to have so many hdmi & usb inputs if there’s only 2 xlr inputs. It’d be cool if attaching the rodecaster pro would extend it but still be able to do the camera following for the mics connected through the pro 2. I dislike trying to run my audio from rodecaster to atem but love having everything on one file when we’re done recording
It might be really useful to document what devices you have attached to which ports on your RodeCaster Video. I bought the RCV believing that I would be able to attach my Hyper-X microphone to a USB-C port. That is not possible. The USB-C ports 4 and 5 will accept only Rode microphones. I am currently trying to get my Sony ZV-1F to stream from a USB-C port. The RCV recognizes it as connected but I don't see any video. I had hoped to do technical / math videos using my reMarkable attached to a USB-C port on the RCV, but so far it does not get identified as connected. I'd be interested to hear what (1) microphones, (2) USB-C cameras, and (3) USB-C generic devices you have been able to attach to the RCV USB ports 4 and 5.
Hi there! 1) USB-C slots 4 & 5 only work with RODE USB microphones 2) I was able to use my Sony ZV-E10 II and A7IV with these slots by using the USB webcam feature! These were the only two cameras I tried though. 3) We haven't tested any other USB devices in these slots at this time, other than the RODECaster Pro 2 which worked! Hopefully this helps!
So long as these NDI, PTZ, and other broadcast style cameras have a 1080p output via HDMI (or SDI that you can convert to HDMI), the RODECaster should recognize them as a video source. I did not test this though so cannot confirm. You of course wouldn't be able to control the cameras zoom, exposure, etc with the RODECaster and that would have to be done independently of the switcher.
This is kind of a 1 of 1 product in terms of audio and video features. There are similar products, but none that support both the high quality video and audio features that this has. What kind of use case would you have so we can point you in the right direction?
@@ThinkMediaTV i do appreciate the reply. Its something i want to try soon, never done a podcast etc before but.... I do rescue animals here in England, and also over in Ukraine.. So i drive over in my old Toyota pickup.
@@MrEnglischjules love it! I would maybe look at picking up some simple USB microphones and begin with your computer as your audio interface and a simple webcam! Then you can begin to get a feel for what your style is and upgrade from there. I wouldn't really bother with multi-camera switching right now... in our humble opinion :) Best of luck!
No 4K!? You can only use RODE mics when connecting a RODECaster Pro!? Also, you still have to do “MOST” of your recording with 4K cameras!? When I first saw this device come across my feed, I was actually excited about it. But the more research I do, the wind gets knocked out of my excitement more and more. For something that cost $1,100 + tax and a protection plan, none of those things should be an issue. I really like the technology that this device offers, and I would like to have one. But, the purpose of an upgrade or adding to your workflow is to make things easier, more feasible, and hopefully fun. I understand that RODE decided not to make this device 4K, so that it can be affordable. But I wonder, 🤔 what would be the price if they added the 4K??
We are constantly told that 99% of video content is consumed on mobile rather than huge TV screens and for talking head studio filming on my Sony cameras like the FX6 and A7SIII 1080p looks pretty good so while I’m also disappointed this doesn’t do 4K is it really a total dealbreaker… Trying to convince myself 😂
@@ThinkMediaTV ok so i was watching other vids, and they were mentioning how 4k can potentially give some problems based on the majority devices still on 1080p… Rode wanted ZERO problems (i guess zero chance of customer “returns” or calls)… which makes sense. Also, they wanted to keep costs “down” from $1200 lol.
To be fair, they're doing a lot of live processing for pip, graphics, keying, auto-switching, etc. I think 4k caused enough headaches for the processor they were using that they saved it for the Rodecaster Video Pro
A tad too rich for my blood....also because I only have one DSLR camera. I have a couple of webcams and my smartphone(which I figured how to use as a webcamera myself) so this is an item from Rode I don't find myself needing to get.
No 4K is a big disappointment but there is a solution. There are several Sony cameras that output semi-4K video/audio via USB-C (Sony A7Cii or ZVE10mII etc) You can save your money and buy cameras and solely use USB-C as a 4K webcam and stream in 4K with Ecamm Live. You don’t need all these annoying peripherals/accessories.
@@ThinkMediaTV I agree. Using USB-C webcam functionality “should” be the future. It can be harder on PC, especially if you are ISO recording but USB-C webcam functionality should be the future. It’s less of a hassle, no clutter/accessories/peripherals.
No 4k and no Project file like Atem Mini Pro, why Rode why !!!!! Atem Mini Pro Iso win for sure but i hope in the future they add the Project file that you can edit all the video or just have all the video in one project
Very much the feel of a “Beta” release product, and definitely not something I would pay the launch price for. Also, it’s too Rode centric in terms of what mics can be connected to it, which by itself would turn me off. And as for the latency, it’s extremely poor. So overall, nothing unique or novel in any way versus the competition and falls short in many areas, so definitely not for me in its current state of development.

can you overlay graphics on the video? can you key out lower 3rd?
Yes!
you should do a review on the yolobox
With only 2 xlr inputs what would recommend for a 3-4 person podcast?
Great review but for the price still choose the atem
I’m wondering to how many platforms we can stream simultaneously? Thanks
I believe only 1…
Where did you guys get the coloured HDMI leads from?
Rode!
Both Rodecaster and Atem are from Australia. Interesting.
What about on-screen graphics? How can you send graphics to the feed.
Can u use an elgato stream.deck as a switcher, who needs more than 2 cam for a live stream?
You can use the stream deck as a switcher. And lots of people need 3-4 cameras for streaming. Maybe not solo creators, but small production teams, media teams, churches, podcasters, etc. would be running more than 2 cams typically. Good question!
@@ThinkMediaTV yeah I just Wana do it like Sean does on stream yard. 2 cameras at the touch of a button, Make it super easy , u should do a quick video on how to do that set up w a elgato
I feel like since I already have an ATEM mini and I have to use OBS anyhow (and would with RCV too), I'll just get a RC Duo and save the money.
Do you know any 4k switchers?
I think a Yolobox Ultra is a better option with 4k input and just connect a Rodecaster with it and you will have a real high quality all. Monitor, switcher, streaming, audio and recording… of course the ticket price is higher but you have a much better option for 2024 standards !
Also a good option for sure! But yes, would need some audio solutions!
Totally agree! YoloBox Extreme is coming soon as well!
@@ThinkMediaTV Would love to see you make a YoloBox review!
In terms of live streaming how would this work with applications/software such as Streamyard or Ecamm
It would work flawlessly! These softwares will recognize the RODECaster Video as a standard video source, and work totally fine.
Wow! Your move, Blackmagic!
Does it have mix minus to add virtual guests?
Yes it does
I have the Rodecaster Duo, and it works beautifully. Now, I'm looking to get a video switcher. This one looks great, but paying that price for features I won't use-since they overlap with the Rodecaster Duo-might not be worth it. It might be better to go for a different video switcher, like the Feelworld L4, which is half the price..
In your case, that could certainly be the case! Great analysis!
I feel it!!
Great switcher 🎉
We agree!
Hello! So is it possible to have another hdmi input using a capture card usb c? Like cam link connected to the usb channel? 😅😅😂
These cameras are a great example of the quality you can achieve with UVC."
So it just depends on the camera you are using!
I can not remember if you mentioned Bluetooth connectivity, say you want to take phone calls during a live stream, other question is, how many social media platforms can you stream simultaneously?
Yep he mentioned that.
Yes you can accept bluetooth devices such as phones to accept call ins. We aren't sure how many platforms you can stream to simultaneously. You can make several different stream profiles for each of the platforms, but I didn't see any clear information about how many platforms you can stream to directly. We will look into this for you!
@@ThinkMediaTV The Live Panel mentioned only being able to stream to one platform at this time
Omg 😮this is a huge leap forward
Is it possible that they add 4K support just for the iso recordings in a future software update? I don’t care about 4K output for the switched video but it would be nice if it still gave you the 4K files out of the cameras (like the ATEM mini pro ISO)
I don’t know…. That would be AMAZING. But not sure if they will or not. I know they are pretty good about firmware upgrades, but that would be a big one and require a big marketing push to get the word out.
Atem mini lineup is only 1080, streaming and ISO recording
@@lainol good to know, thanks for clarifying
No 4K for a unit that price is crazy work IMO
wait, so i cant use this on a 4 shure sm7b setup?
Awesome 🎉
Hi there!
1) USB-C slots 4 & 5 only work with RODE USB microphones
2) I was able to use my Sony ZV-E10 II and A7IV with these slots by using the USB webcam feature! These were the only two cameras I tried though.
3) We haven't tested any other USB devices in these slots at this time, other than the RODECaster Pro 2 which worked!
Hopefully this helps!
2 things- Wish it had 4k video recording and was about $300 cheaper.
Do you know if this has ndi? This would great for ndi cameras
Is there something that does the same, even not as good level but for a much lower price? that is a few times more expensive than i could ever afford
@@ThinkMediaTV ah webcams. simple.. never thought of that. Its more then enough
Are you giving that one away?
Not at this time!
Looks good except it’s much more expensive than an ATEM mini.
Shame it's only 1080p and not 4k.
Yeah it is a bummer. If it was 4K they would CRUSH all of the competition. But for what it is, it is still really really good!
An audio company definitely didn’t think about more than two inputs. All this effort and they didn’t wanna include 4 my channels? Hard pass.
Can I use this for my music TH-cam channel?
Of course!
I think for most creators this is more than enough for what they are doing 😂
Probably great, but way too expensive for me.
What is the price
4:45 you know he's lying when he's looking down!
You forgot to mention automix, with AI
wait wait wait...how much for for 1080p?!
haha it is a bit pricey!
Great product… but no 4K video so it’s a non starter for me especially at that price point
Fair enough!
هلا الجهاز يسجل مباشرة على هارديسك خارجي!؟
If you think you're gonna get a 4k switcher for $1k you're in the wrong game. This looks to be a great product from Rode
why on earth didnt they add 4k option….
We aren't totally sure. I think because most streaming is still done in 1080p, but we want to record in 4K so it is a bit of a bummer.
@@zoukchata makes sense. I respect that!
Totally fair! Speciality item for sure.
Sure, but there are some trade offs going the software right vs the hardware route.
@@ThinkMediaTV I agree. Using USB-C webcam functionality “should” be the future. It can be harder on PC, especially if you are ISO recording but USB-C webcam functionality should be the future. It’s less of a hassle, no clutter/accessories/peripherals.
ATEM killer at that price? You must be from a different planet.
What if you use the streamer X to hack 4k video?
Not sure what you mean
I would say wallet killer maybe
No 4k and no Project file like Atem Mini Pro, why Rode why !!!!!
Atem Mini Pro Iso win for sure but i hope in the future they add the Project file that you can edit all the video or just have all the video in one project
I hope they do too! Knowing Rode there will be many quality firmware updates in coming months!
Atem killer???? Are you serious???? Does i have ISO function (recording of each channel)???
Yes
Hi
Not sure why 4K was missed.
