Great presentation, thank you 🙆♂️. For the Obverse, I totally agree with your top 3, for the reverse, I do like the George iii version, very closely followed by the shields 👌.
Regarding 2;37, that coppery hue on recently minted 22 karat gold sovereigns is due to the 8.3% copper that is alloyed with 91.7% gold. South African Gold Kruggerand coins have the same alloy and color. However over time with exposure to the air, 22 karat gold cons should tone into a more overall golden color with a less apparent coppery hue.
This video is awesome mate, really informative for someone like me who’s new to gold. With my budget I’m looking at 1/4oz coins so Sovereigns, I’m looking at newer sovereigns, Currently the 1/4oz Britannia premium is around the 8-9% mark so that’s why I’m going with sovereigns, can I ask, what would you say is currently a good premium for sovereigns? I was thinking around 3-5% but I wanted to get your input. Thank you, Steve
as always brilliant and extremely informative video, really enjoyed looking at all the various portraits. Don't know how you come up with all your video ideas on sovereigns. also love your comments on the old vs new sovs, always makes me smile. couldn't agree more regards getting condition over dates unless it comes at a low bullion price. PS does each successive design face the opposite way
Personally, I like my Gillicks....understated elegance and usually in very good condition!! That 1961 is proving a bit elusive and the only one I am missing in the 1957 to 1968 run.
Hi. In my personal opinion, the most beautiful portrait is the Veiled Queen Victoria's. About the other portraits, I suppose you didn't mention King George VI's because the Sovereign with his portrait is rare ( I cannot figure out why he did not continue issuing the sovereigns every year, taking out the WW2 years); but I wonder why did you miss to show also Queen Elizabeth's portrait of the 90's, which I consider the most beautiful of her coin portraits. Thank you for the replies you may grant, and thank you for your video!
Well spotted. There are a few I didn't mention but hopefully I can pick up a few more of them in future including the Maklouf portrait you mention. There are a few others plus some from around the globe that I considered adding in like a crowned KGV for example
I don't think the modern alloy is the issue with the colour. I got a 1980 proof sovereign in the post today, and comparing it to a 2022 bullion sovereign the polished gold is virtually identical in colour. I think the colour difference is more down to the finish of bullion sovereigns. If you look at a post 2000's proof, the matte gold on the portraits is the same colour as old bullion. It's a shame bullion doesn't come as matte, and then save the polished finish for the background of proofs.
I don't know if you have any pre 2000's proofs that you can compare to modern bullion, but if you do, that could be an interesting video, especially alongside non proof pre 2000's. @@SovereignSaurus
Missing four portraits there .. but of those shown .. think I agree with the first three .. the George V portrait is high relief .. and marginal with Victoria young head .. of the Late QEII portraits .. I really like the Maklouf closely followed by Gillick .. but of all .. I think the IRB portrait of Elizabeth is by far the worst .. sadly most common! Somebody mentioned shields for reverse ... without a doubt William IIII shield design I think is the best !... portrait is right up there as well...
I'd have to check exactly but for gold it is into 6 figures. It does obviously change with spot fluctuations so I don't really worry about the day to day value and focus more on adding gradually over time 👍🏼
It's none of my business so I'll never know where the funds came from to have a stack worth at least 100 grand, especially as you sound quite young, but good for you.
Easy work your ass off, i have been buying full sovereigns & half sovereigns since i was 13 years old, i have 100k+ in gold alone, never mind my silver stack,
The 2023 Charles III portrait is quite nice in my opinion! I have all three finishes: bullion, proof and matte. I love having the trio.
Ahh nice idea there
i prefer the one with the crown - i have the 1oz coronation coin
the sweet gold obsession is so much about its color... I really don't understand why they make gold coins that look like copper...
Cheaper to add a little copper than Silver I guess
Maybe it reduces the number of counterfeit coins as they copy something else? 🤣
I have two of the rose gold Sovereigns and I like the color. Don't understand why collectors don't like them.
Ive come to appreciate the veiled head more than i used to.
It does seem relatively unloved Vs many other portraits
Great presentation, thank you 🙆♂️.

They don't make em like they used to hey
Great video and nice sharing my friend 👏👍👌
Thanks hopefully I can pick those few missing up in future

Interesting thanks for sharing. There is sometimes some variance in older coins presumably depending where they were stored
Very interesting, yes. l noticed that already too with some QE II Sovereigns.
Bun Head and Gillick. The Gillick is growing on me more and more!
Don't think stacking Gillicks can go far wrong 👍🏼

Thanks for this it’s good to see them all together!
My favourite has to be the Maklouf
I've been waiting for a cheap one to come up for ages 🤣 I've missed a couple but hope to find one soon

Thanks for watching. They typically do alternate which direction they face though with some exceptions yes.
I love the george 111,ones especially the 1819 one 😅,
Got a nice stack of those 1819s have you? 😏 Yeah it's a solid portrait 👍🏼

Well said!
1961 (and 1960) don't exist! So your date run should effectively be complete :)
❤ Sov's. They're the best. And fun.
👌🏽
i want to get a set with all the portraits - i like the QE2 Gillick
Nice that'll be great
Personally l´ve always had a soft spot for George V portrait. So regal.
Regal that's a good word yes!

Some great points. I hope to pick up the missing ones as they come up 👍🏼
I agree
Some detail? That crown Victoria is AU if not brilliant uncirculated!
There's a few nice coins sneaked into the stack over time 😁👍🏼
George 4th never skipped neck day
Some girth there 🤣
nice!
🙌🏽
Cheers
🍻
you're missing the Edward VIII and George VI sovereigns
You forgot William IV.
I'm missing a few yes. Maybe one day 🤞🏽
Are you comfortable telling us the current price paid & value of your investment 🎉
