I have a feeling that 1oz coins are going to be really hard to sell in the near future. I think fractional is best for now so sovereigns for me personally. Liquidity is key going forward.
Britannias for me. I am all about bullion weight, purity of gold and substance. I am investing long term. Sovs are defo good, but Britannias serve my purpose better. Fractional Britannias are good to have for liquidity and quick sales, but I absolutely love the ouncers. The tax efficiency is ace too. Historical value and collectability is not as important to me as it's all about the gold and the intrinsic value.
You didn't mention that Sovereigns are 91.67% pure while Britannia's are 99.99% pure since 2013. I would rather a coin that is 99.99%, the same as gold bar bullion. Britannia's also come in half, quarter, and tenth of an ounce.

The colour of sovereign's depends on what metal the royal mint decides to mix with the gold to make 22crt it may be silver or it could be copper this metal is added to make the coins stronger and last longer if used as cash that was what they were made for in the first place Britannia's are 24crt and to soft to be used as cash they are usually kept in plastic containers so as not to get them scratched.
For fractional, Older Sovereigns just make perfect sense to me. Cheaper Premiums - Historical Value & potential protection - Easy to handle and store - Well recognised and Extremely liquid. 👍
I like the Sovereign coins, but wish they were more gold looking. I only haver one and its a half-Sov. I'm embarrassed to say that I know nothing about it. LOL

Looking to buy a few coins, and calculating the actual price-per-gold I can see a real advantage of sovereigns vs. britanias for the same amount of value (counting exactly the grams of gold and comparing it to the price)... am I missing anything here?
As an American I love to stack the pre 1933 gold. Eagles and half eagles usually have a lower premium than bouillon. I do also stack lots of Britannia fractional and 1 oz gold coins. I have yet to buy any sovereigns as they are not very available here. Thanks for the video

There is no better option of the 2 examples. Britannias are NOT slightly newer, they are alot newer. My oldest britannia is late 1990s whereas my oldest sovereign is 1843. Sovereigns after 2000 are more coppery because they are 22ct gold with cheaper copper. Earllier sovereigns contained some silver so they are more yellow. To say britannias are more yellow than sovereigns is misleading. Some britannias are 22ct gold, pre 2013 and are slightly bigger due to them containing a full troy ounce of gold. Ive been involved in precious metals for 8 years, and it only in the last few that ive felt knowledgeable enough to give advice. Here goes, buy sovereigns if you've got cash that would otherwise be sitting in a bank, choose best value from a reputable company and avoid high premium numismatics until you've learnt the pitfalls.
Hi FI, Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that Obverse (heads) is the front of the coin and the Reverse (tails) is the back. So, Charlie on the Sovereign and Queenie on the Britannia are the front face of the coins (Obverse) and the interesting stuff that we like and buy the coins for is on the back face (Reverse).
I have both and will continue to have both 1oz Britannia and full sovereign. For uk citizen for logical and financial reasons they should be seen are equal. Sovereigns also come in various sizes from 1/4 sovereign to 5 sovereign. For entirely personal preference reasons you may prefer one over the other , im not personally a fan of the red colour of modern sovereigns but that is purely a matter of the heart and shouldn't cloud your judgement. Btw

My gold collection also has a couple of bars and some foreign coins like Indian heads and 1/4 libertads
I just much prefer and love the look/colour of pure 24k than 22k, if there was a 24k sovereign the size of an ounce that would be cool to see i saw an isle of man angel ounce online before but not in person. The Brittania's detail and security features are really impressive. An of all the gold coin sizes, i just love the ounce, half ounces are nice, i got a quarter ounce the other day an its nice but 400 odd for it just feels hefty, even though an ounce is 3 and abit times more but it just feels more satisfactory and complete/worth it. I would love some of the earlier decade prices but cant do much about that 😂
I agree with you there! Very true regarding the prices of the 1/4 ounce but in a decade from now people will wish they were still the prices from today!

Yes sovereigns have 0.4 gm than a 1/4 britannia, but the mark up of a britannia is around £40 while the sovereign is around £20, do the maths
