    I work in a pawn shop in the USA, and once had a customer with several silver Mexican coins from two different years, about the size of a UK crown. So I gave them a quick check, they felt right, weight was right, acid test was ok. I was about to buy them when I decided to do the magnet test. Oops. They were magnetic. On closer inspection, all the coins from the same respective year were exactly the same - down to the dings and scratches! So if someone offers you several coins of the same mintage, check to see if the damage matches on them, that's a bit of a give-away!
    About the sound - I moved from Britain to Texas eighteen years ago, and the first job I got involved handling money. Now, bear in mind that as a Brit I assumed that all silver coins in America had been pulled from circulation, as they had in the UK. Until someone handed me some quarters, and I noticed that classic silver "ting". From then on, I checked every bit of change I got, and ended up with quite a large collection of silver dimes and quarters.

      Most have, but it is still possible, if quite rare, to find some silver coins still in circulation. Always worth checking! Working as a cashier for Sam's Club I found several silver dimes so I always brought some dimes with me to trade them out.

    • @Skraeling1000
      @Skraeling1000 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@troodon1096 I haven't found a silver coin in circulation for maybe five years now, maybe this part of the country has more silver hoarders! My best "find" back in the day was when someone paid for an item with seven silver halfs!

    I have a 1823 King George IV IIII Great Britain Gold Sovereign Coin but it has a jewellery necklace piece attachment on it which is nice and looks like its made of gold. Does having this attachment decrease the value by much and would it still be desired ?

    OK, so what do I do if I get a fake gold sovereign? I bought a 9ct gold chain with a glass locket ... good pric for the chain ... and what I am sure is a counterfeit 1915 gold sovereign. To my eye it's off ... not so much George and the Dragon, but George 5th is very amateurish. Do I turn it in? Keep t as a souvenir?

    I have a 1908-M that looks to be the right size and weight, but it has the alignment problem you described at about 8:41. When the reverse is correct, the obverse is rotated about 10 degrees. I don't have access to something like a Sigma verifier to check otherwise, and the dealer was reputable. I assume they check, but who really knows? It also passes the magnet test. Is alignment always spot on? The others I have are.

    • @oz-corner8281
      @oz-corner8281 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Die rotation errors do occur, and although rare - it is certainly possible for your 10degree offset to be such an error. You need to get the coin independently appraised. PCGS could provide some certainty there and the error would also be noted. Should increase the coin’s value. Good luck!

    Sorry if this is a silly question. Reference was made to jewelery Mount coins. I have inherited gold jewelry with quite a few mounted full sovereigns and I was thinking of having the coins removed. What is the issue with jewelery Mount sovereigns?

    • @eldanno5970

      Retaining or restoring the coins mounted as antique jewellery may be a better investment option. Removing them will reduce their value to melt with far less appeal. Good luck!

    Thank you, Christopher! However, buying an ancient sovereign scale may not be an accurate tool after decades of wear and tear. I have bought something called a Fisch guage which determines a genuine coin on the very same principles: weight, diameter, thickness 🙂

    Awesome.. Bring doing the math.. Your coins gold sorvigjn are the best price by a long way. When you buy to sell unless its proff or minted to a number or even BU its all done by weight.. So your coins come in at the best price. I can't get lots of different heads for less than 4.05 most are above 425.. So if I'm correct in my eyes your coins for best value is still weight and by far the best deal.. I need to pay of 2750 pounds for my other gold and silver bought and if all still well and your the best value like you are then I will be purchase coins from your place... Buliion by post state the UK best value sorvigjn. Its not the case. Your coins are.. Its all about weight if its not proff minted BU rare....so yea I will show my father in the morning.... Anyways why did they make the Cape matt finish.. If you no let me no please...
