Great coins. Sovereigns are a great alternative to bullion. The only coin that's cheaper than Sovereigns here in Austria are 1000 Schilling Babenberger coins. I don't know why so many people still prefer bullion. Have a great weekend!
Do the 1000 Schilling coins have any favourable treatment in Austria like the sovs do in UK? eg exempt from Capital Gains Tax or similar?

I’ve not bought any graded sovereigns yet but am willing to pay a premium for shield backs as I feel they will hold a greater value if/when selling is considered. Not so sure if graded coins will command a premium in the future who knows ?
I imagine some coins will do very well but others likely not. Perhaps some coins also drift in and out of fashion... For eg decent shields might sell at 10% premium now but in future premiums swell and 20% is more typical or vice versa. Hard to know so I suppose it's best guess. I think high grade older coins are a good bet but anyone's guess
Is it me, or are my EdVII and EII 1960s Sovereigns slightly thinner than the modern sovereigns? They weigh the same at circa 8g but seem thinner. Bought from reputable dealer so happy are genuine. Anyone see the same thing?
There is some small variation sometimes particularly between older and new
lovely sovereigns as always all in nice condition, makes a difference compared to banged up coins. Another interesting video topic, with a great backdrop of beautiful sovs. Never understood why people grade standard bullion coins that are nicked, damaged, worn. Fair enough if sovs are rare/extremely old, proofs in good condition. Due to your level head regards gold investments/purchases, I don't believe you would have paid much premium for the slabbed sov. I have a PF68 King Charles Coronation 5 Sov. Its grade is worth nothing but premium was low so brought it. If you can get low grade slabbed coins close to spot then why not. Due to your business investment brain, I would be very surprised if you have brought many PF70 coins ( unless you fell in love with the coin or came at a good price )
You're right there yes. I've seen a fair few examples of graded coins sell more or less at bullion price (for eg when the grade is nothing special but the coin is nice enough) like you say, why not... A 'strategy' I've considered is buying lower grade coins that look like they've been hard done by the grader. Unlikely I'm going to spend that much time crawling through photos but I bet people are doing it

Sovereigns in MS grade are nice, whatever the number is🙆♂️. I think the Perth mint 1924 is best, I’m no expert, but I look at George’s breast plate👌.

What are your thoughts on removing 100g - 20g gold bars from their assay cards? Your comments would be very much appreciated.
It shouldn't affect the value you get back at the other side though if selling on the 2nd hand market eventually some buyers would prefer it in the assay

Question as a newbie. I ordered 3 bullion grade sovereign 2022,23 & 24 full new sovereign. One of them is a touch sharp on the edges and I would say from naked eye that it’s slightly thicker one side of the coin than the other. Is this normal with bullion? It doesn’t bother me too much but the other two are perfect. Cheers
I don't think I'd be concerned from the description. If they came from a reputable dealer I imagine they'd be fine. Did you ask the seller?

Numesmetic coins are a waste of the extra you have to pay, not worth it.
At the end of the day that coin will be valued for it's pure gold content and nothing else.
Possibly the case one day though there are still plenty of people paying premiums for certain coins these days
