Great video, but let's talk about the real issue here. There are large swaths of U.S. public land, intended for the public to enjoy, but completely landlocked by private landowners. Something needs to be done to address the issue. Or, are we okay with only a handful of wealthy land owners accessing these thousands of acres of public land because they've encircled it? Personally, I believe at the very least we need to have public corridors to these public lands.
I don’t understand why own all that land and not use it . Id totally get joy out of people riding pass on different machines as long as they don’t trash it . Some people are just greedy
Gaia has a private land layer. Oftentimes, public land is accessed by road easements through private land. As long as you stay on the road, you are fine. Also, sometimes landowners lock gates illegally to prevent legal users from accessing public land. Best to check with the managing agency.

I get that for sure. I really need a winch on mine. However, there are a few situations to where you may actually need one and plenty of exploring to do in areas where you won't need one. But it is definitely nice insurance to have especially when out there solo.
When I saw you go through that one gate after all the previous ones were locked, for a half-second, I thought "uh-oh" but then I remembered you posted this video, so Lol you obviously made it out ok. Another great presentation of another adventure
In addition to the Public Land layer you mentioned, Gaia HAS a Private Land layer which you can download for offline use. It even shows you the name of the land owner for the parcel on which you are located. Seriously, the tools WERE available to help prevent this situation.

Also, my friend reported back to me that Gaia did mark this as private, but was out of date. They have had this property for 2 years and Gaia hasn’t updated. Onx has it labeled correctly

David, quick question, I'm in-between an iceco vl35 pro s and the vl45 pro s. I know you have extensive knowledge of both of these. Which one would you recommend?
@@OFFTHEGRINDbeautiful area, I’m over in Tricities and there’s not much here. I’m looking for some cool spots for day trips, this definitely has to go on my list! Also, great channel and content man!

Hahaha that’s amazing! He actually had one, but it was so small and placed awkwardly that I completely missed it. He actually said that was good feedback and I believe they have since corrected that

OnX is a really useful tool for determining who owns what and most of its info is pretty accurate. Gaia has been too much of a let-down and tends to be far more complex.
I’m very grateful that this situation played out the way it did cause you’re absolutely right, it could’ve been way worse. And yeah Gaia has been a let down for a while. And this was the final straw for me. Onx has been a lot better although there are things I’d like to see improved still
I was told they did but I couldn’t find it. All I could find was one for Arkansas. That was on the app at least. Sometimes different layers are available on desktop so I don’t know
@OFFTHEGRIND I have gaia set up so if I plan routes on my computer it's linked to my phone also my layers are linked so if I'm going to a place that might have private land it shows up on my phone or iPad I do have the premium version the only bad thing is on auto car play it doesn't show the private land layer
Gaia does actually have a "landowner" layer that you can download and turn on. While OnX has made some improvements that is getting closer to being appealing for me, i still prefer the versatility that Gaia offers. Im glad the gentleman was cool about you being on his land, but seriously if he really wanted to keep people ofc his land, a couple of No Trespassing signs at his open gate might have deterred an honest citizen such as yourself.
I’ve been told that about Gaia but I only saw one for Arkansas. That was on mobile and I know mobile and desktop are different. But that’s kinda why I switched as well. Managing all the layers in Gaia is so clunky. Onx has come a long ways since last time I used it three years ago. And the landowner and I both learned something from the experience. There were signs on the gate, but they were very small and not in an obvious spot. So he was like dang I need better signage
@OFFTHEGRIND feeling like me comment might have painted the landowner in a negative light... (apologies to landowner) it's actually cool that he willingly agreed to be on film... glad he was so cool and that it was a good experience for you both. I actually use both Gaia and OnX. I like OnX for the marked trails and routes, but I still prefer being able to have all of the info Gaia offers at my fingertips. We are fellow Washingtonians and the property layer works in my app... weird that your experience was different. Anyway... really appreciate that we have so many tools available to us. Love your channel really appreciate all the work you do on production. Your channel is one of a few I follow that inspire me to strive for better with my own work. Keep bringing the good stuff 😁
You almost got stuck? That's why you wait until the roads dry out. Just because you can go someplace doesn't mean that you should. Too many folks drive on desert roads too early in the year. It simply tears up the roads.
I was wondering how that was gonna play out. Land owner seemed cool and easygoing, considering the circumstances. I know I've been, let's say, less than thrilled when a random person walks right past my no soliciting sign, knocks on the door, and tries to sell me something. Did the landowner happen to say what the point was with the camera pointing at the cave?
He was super cool. But I was also extremely nice and apologetic. I had a feeling as soon as I saw the game camera that I was not where I was supposed to be. So when I saw him tailing me, I knew what was going on. I am always respectful of others but to a different degree in this circumstance. Also, solicitors are the worst lol
David thanks for sharing, as for the bourbon whisky drink I forgot all about that one. First on my list for the next winter trip. Great drone footage buddy, what a beautiful place.
You’re lucky I don’t ban you from my channel with this nonsense. lol totally kidding! The best way to drink whiskey is the way you most enjoy it. And that’s so dope that you live close to that area. It’s such a nice spot
It’s top secret. I definitely can’t tell you that for every 2 oz of bourbon you use one bar spoon of simple syrup and two dashes of bitters. Then a luxardo cherry with a little of the juice. And I DEFINITELY can’t tell you that 2 drops of 20% saline water will open the drink up quite a bit and compliment the sweetness.
There's a reason for everything and today most of us who didn't know this fully has learned something. So Gaia isn't up to date and we have to be extremely careful getting into these BLM lands that are surrounded by private property.. Great editing that amazing scenery and drive, thank you. Your New bronco is being in its natural habitat where it mostly belongs too
Your video title definitely grabs attention, and I'm eager to hear about your adventure exploring Central Washington. We sent you an email, check it out.
I have to say that when I’m out Overlanding, I completely leave peoples private property alone, but if it’s BLM land should never be locked in by private property. The people that surround those properties should be made to make an easement road or purchase all the land that people are not allowed to access. Everybody pays taxes, which is funding BLM, if only the people that own the land around it can access it that’s kind of bullshit.
Yeah it really sucks. But that on the government. I’m sure that family would love to buy that portion of BLM land but the government won’t for whatever reason
Very common in America that land hoarders own bunch of land without really having a need for that. It's not like you have a house, garden, some animals and whatnot and own an acre or two or three and live there.
@@kevinstarski1598 so this family in particular has a bunch of government sponsored projects including attempting to bring an endangered species back. But I’m sure there are plenty of examples like you said that aren’t the situation and yeah it’s obnoxious. It’s also not well documented which is rough. I’m sure there’s laws but laws are useless if not enforced
Came here to say that.. Seems odd... THink the government could force a right of way for access to the public land, but that could be a hastle. Glad that guy was cool though.
@@OFFTHEGRIND you’ve got me 99% convinced I’m going to start traveling west and hitting up different trails and camping like you do. Looks like a blast
So it's public land for those with a helicopter or a balloon. It's insane how many instances you can find here in America where land hoarders surround the blm land...how is that even allowed? I've seen instances of "no trespassing/private property" signs on gates, where in reality, the road was public only the land on the sides is private...
Do you not have a helicopter?? Just kidding. Yeah it’s a bit obnoxious but I think that’s on the government not selling specific parcels. The government is whacky man

I didn’t realize they were as bad until there was nowhere to turn around. I try my best to not mess up the roads
Long time fan. Really enjoyed the video. It’s one of your best so far and helps me to decompress at the end of the day.
Excuse me sir. I do not need saving from coffee montages. I need more of them,
lol I did not expect that
You need a diesel heater.
I have one but I hate using it and transporting it
I was wondering how that was gonna play out.

My favorite way to make an old fashioned is kinda cheating. I just put in a splash of Grand Marnier. 🎉
Also. Coffeepot and twin lakes are in my backyard. Love going out there. Camped on the same overlook.
You’re lucky I don’t ban you from my channel with this nonsense.
lol totally kidding! The best way to drink whiskey is the way you most enjoy it. And that’s so dope that you live close to that area. It’s such a nice spot
That whisky recipe ?
It’s top secret. I definitely can’t tell you that for every 2 oz of bourbon you use one bar spoon of simple syrup and two dashes of bitters. Then a luxardo cherry with a little of the juice. And I DEFINITELY can’t tell you that 2 drops of 20% saline water will open the drink up quite a bit and compliment the sweetness.
Oh wow thanks!
@@Alejandro19891213 haha no problem
I hate the thought that people can buy all the land surrounding a parcel of public land and cut off all access to it.
Great video!
Thanks Dave!
Lexus luxury
Love the video maneee
lol thanks!
The government is whacky man
Oh shit - I know the guy who's land you were on LOL. Nice video!
Hahaha he’s a good dude. He’s actually invited me back since so I hope to see even more of it
Thats awesome dude! Glad it went well.@@OFFTHEGRIND
What's the point of having public land that is not accessible to the public?
A solid question for the bureau of land management. I’m sure this family would like to just buy the remaining land
Xxx
Wow. I don’t know what video you watched but it definitely wasn’t this one
I have no clue how my comment moved to the next video I watched but it obviously had nothing to do with you! I’m so sorry. I’ll remove the comment.
@@Jaynels22 hahaha no worries at all man! I was a little shocked to see it though
@@OFFTHEGRINDhowever I do really enjoy your content and can’t wait to get my Bronco this year! Keep up the trips and good filming. 😅
@@Jaynels22 haha well I’m glad you do like it! lol congrats on the bronco though! Hopefully you don’t have to wait much longer
Get OnX you won’t find yourself in this spot
You didn’t make it to the end lol. I have Gaia now based on the owners recommendation

Classic vid, loved the watch, candid camera 101 busted @offthegrind
If it’s not fenced tell the guy to pound sand.

Is this a joke?
