Yeah, it's nonsensical to trade Liljegren an NHL Dmen. Gee I think the Leafs used 10 Dmen last season. Certainly as you suggest teams need at least 7 capable NHL Dmen.
Signing Robertson and then trading him makes sense. If you don't do that, he has leverage to say I won't sign there either. Now he can't do that. It's the same thing Columbus did with Dubois.
I think they will spend a lot of time conditioning him to work on his weak points also, and then get him ice time to trade him. The issue is the leafs have a weak left side, and trying to fill that with the lack of options on the market will be a challenge. So it makes sense to give him time, condition him and then trade him along with other prospects and get a decent solid left winger in return. Good strategy I think.
Jarnkrok is the most marketable and the one that makes the most sense. With him off the roster, and Patches and Lorentz signing for $1M, gives the team a 23 man roster and about $100k under the cap.
I'd rather lose Kampf, or Dewar and sign only Patches. Jarnkrok can play middle-6 and all 3 positions while putting up 15-20 goals and 35-40 points. Unless you're getting something stupid like a 1st rounder, he's more valuable on the roster. Especially if the best argument is "ooo, 23 man roster".
@@Leafsdude_ no one would take Kampf. Everything you mentioned is why a team would take Jarnkrok. 23 man roster means depth and the coach can hold players accountable with scratches if they don't play properly.

@@Leafsdude_ I would tend to agree, but I'm trying to figure out how things shake out with Berube/Tre, and of the guys listed, Holmberg seems the least to fit their vision; he's not as defensive, doesn't play as "Heavy" a game. But they might both be gone tbh
Since the Leafs are very low in NHL depth at NHL centre,,,,Holmberg has to stay, I really don't understand this love for Lorentz and Patches who haven't even signed contracts.
@@ZacharyTolson I'd say Holmberg has a pretty solid defensive game. Maybe not as good as Dewar, but he's not anywhere near as bad as Robertson or even Patches. That said, i agree that he doesn't play the "heavy" game like Dewar does. The cap factor is pretty important here, though, so I think the 310k difference between them will have to factor in as well. I'm not sure even the biggest blockhead could argue Dewar at 1.1 over Holmberg at 800k on 4th line LW.
