At one point in his career willy seemed unbeatable on his strong side when he'd sub in for faceoffs. But Willy is very clearly a winger at this point he is only an option at center if there are injuries

After every playoff exit I promise myself I wont care about the Leafs next season, out of the belief that the best thing that can happen to the team is lower viewer #'s and lower ticket sales that would force the organisation to restructure around winning vs profits.

Eternal sold-out games, huge viewer #'s and a merchandising empire breeds a culture of complacency. The point is lessening the media fishbowl to minimize off-ice drama so the team can focus on what's happening on-ice, not focusing on social media content and selling jerseys, the kind of things the Leafs do only because they are such a huge cash cow.
Look at the better teams in the league and how their players only have to focus on playing, their mental game is way tougher and the product on the ice speaks for itself.

If I remember correctly Toronto and New York were vying for the top spot in the NHL in the 1st half of the season and then Wendel got hurt and they spiraled down hill from there and barely made the playoffs. Everyone back in the l/u they were one of the best teams in the league when they knocked off Detroit.
Leafs: "We've got a little trick up our sleeves this year."
Fans: "It’s not planning to put Nylander at center again, like you do at the start of every season, is it?"
Leafs: "… umm… no..."
Marner is vastly overpaid and does fuckall in the playoffs. Enough already!!
Chicago gets: Robertson, Timmins, Liljigren, Kampf = $7.4M AAV
Leafs get Seth Jones (Chicago eats 2M AAV for four more years) = $7.5M AAV
They would be getting younger and deeper with a scoring prospect. Two offensive dmen that have both shown flashes of scoring and a Quality PK fourth line center.
We get a bonified top two dman that use to play a hell of a lot better on a better team.

From what I read it was Tre that wanted to see Willy at Centre however Keefe wasn’t that into it bc he’s tried it before and didn’t have faith in it, so the leash was minimal.
If he wanted a second look, I don’t think it be difficult to get Berube to give it a go for the preseason.

This is so true about being a leaf fan.If Marner gets 13.5 million for doing nothing it builds up so much resentment that i almost hope the leafs falter. Thats coming from a die hard leaf fan.
I find the entertainment from the Leafs during regular season is enough for me. At playoff time summer is coming on strong and there's golf and so many other things to outdoors, so not having to sit inside through the 4-6 weeks of playoffs suits me just fine. BTW Marner did not lose the playoffs for the Leafs last year, the goaltending did, oh and the defence.
Think it's cause Tavares contract is almost up. That has been our biggest anchor
Why can't you talk about Marner at Centre? He is such the logical person to put there.
As a fan, I am not worried about the Leafs during the regular season, it is more about how they build for the playoffs. They did not really do anything that was game changing. Steve got this one right, fans really do not care about what is happening right now.

Nylander has never failed at center. I don't know why people clown on this whenever it's brought up. Nylander has played extremely little center in his NHL career. When he has, it's been almost exclusively before the last few years in which he has become much much better as a player. When they went to it in the briefest of stints, it was a reaction to injury depletion of the lineup. It has NEVER been legitimately tried in a healthy lineup at C in any regular season since his 20 pre-rookie season games. Not once. Giving him a game or two here or there, or sticking him there for part of a game in no way shape or form counts as actually trying it. Nylander is absolutely capable of playing Center in this league and I think Berube would be wise to give it a long look, because if it works, it solves a ton of problems for us, both this year and going forward.
Even last preseason, Willy only played 1 or 2 games in the preseason at center at most and they were a dogs breakfast of a lineup, so how does one conclude anything from that? It seems to me they put him back to wing because he excels there and were never really committed the idea of trying him at C. I'd go as far as to say, it probably wasn't Keefe's idea and he bailed on it as quickly as he possibly could.
Sometimes it’s better to tweek a team and strengthen the team than tearing it half down and starting at ground zero
I would put domi on center he did great the last few games way better than JT
If they should try anyone at Center, it should be Marner.
Can we use Marner’s money to sign Ekblad and/or Provorov?
If the Leafs bring Marner back for any amount of money after this season, Leafs fans need to send a message by not buying tickets or merch. Send a message that mediocrity is unacceptable for a team that hasn't won a Cup in almost 60 years and hasn't made a conference final in over 20. Not doing that means all this talk is all bark, no bite.

He's the best player on the team in almost every stastical category including AVAILABILITY plus their best 2 way player BY A LONG SHOT and plays PK1 but yes he does nothing in the playoffs 🤣🤣

The point of the regular season is to make the playoffs. The point of the playoffs is to win the Stanley Cup.
The Leafs are still good enough to make the playoffs without Marner.
Trading Marner could get the Leafs some depth which can be the difference maker in the playoffs.

It's obvious to anyone who actually watches the playoffs that Marner can't handle the pressure and doesn't adapt to less space and more physical play. Not remotely good enough for someone who wants 12M+/year. This is the difference between using your eyes and a clueless habs fan parroting a stat sheet.
Please copy paste his career playoff points and ignore that most of them are secondary assists in games 1-4 before he implodes later in the series. Ignore the 0.5 points per game in his last 2 playoff series, the constant turnovers, unforced errors, perimeter play, being scared to get hit, the list goes on.
