  • An overview on using a Turkish drop spindle. The spindles I am using are "mini" spindles by Snyder Spindles. One is 9 grams, the other is 11 grams. I am spinning some superwash merino/silk from Deep Dyed Fibers. If you are looking for just a close-up of winding the cop you will find that at the very end. I will also post just that portion separately.

Nice! I’ve always wanted to learn spinning on a Turkish drop spindle. It looks so beautiful and utilitarian at the same time.

Interesting that you don’t butterfly the yarn prior to winding on.

I don’t! I have a left hand that does not have much strength or dexterity after an accident and butterflies would be a bit much for it. I seem to do just fine without, lol.

I don’t generally bother with butterflying my yarn either, not really cos of any particular reason, I just find it easier that way.
