I enjoyed watching you use your Turkish Spindle Spinning. It was very enlightening. Particularly the part where you mention winding the spindle shaft counterclockwise so that it stays on better. I've had that same issue and will try that on my Turkist spindle too. I also admire the way you were able to get 50 grams turtle. That is a nice bit of spinning! Thanks so much for sharing. I prefer the Turkish spindle over the drop spindle myself.
I usually attach my leader to the base of the spindle shaft with a slip knot loop on my little Turkish spindle. I’m currently spinning up 100g of 30 micron, silver grey carded alpaca fleece which is really nice to work with I have to say. Don’t generally bother to spiral with my Turkish spindle, tho I DO find it’s helpful with my homemade bottom whorl spindle, which is bigger(it’s just a bottom whorl/weight made of polymer clay with a bamboo skewer shaft) Thank you btw, for not obsessing about making your kop/turtle “picture perfect”. I watched one TH-camr who you’d swear was doing the whole process to make an “Insta worthy kop” rather than spinning yarn. I mean if I took the kind of time she suggested to carefully place each wrap, I’d be spending more time wrapping than actually spinning!! I don’t do it for pretty balls(yes I KNOW that sounded wrong lol)I do it for yarn. Have you ever tried a Navajo spindle? I was given one by a good friend and they’re a lot of fun. They’re a long, supported spindle that is used on the floor while sitting. It took several viewings of a lovely Dineh lady’s YT channel to get the technique to the stage that I could actually spin something resembling a single, but now I’ve got it, I really enjoy it….still working on consistent thickness tho lol.

I'm actually being very good as they're in my Craft Room, still in their packaging. Fingers getting a bit itchy due to their proximity.

I was actually very good at not opening anything.
I just wish my yarn was consistent, but i guess that comes with practice. Will definitely keep watching as long as you still pop up. Yours is definitely the best for the Turkish Spindles. I'm binging on this as I find that I can actually Spindle along with you..I'm in England too, when ive got a bit more of consistency in my Spinning I'll look up the "Cat & Sparrow ".

I’m waiting to get my first Turkish spindle. Is there a difference or is it important to go one way when winding the turtle? Should you go the same way that you twisted the spindle or the opposite way? Or does it matter? Im sorry if this is a stupid question. I haven’t heard any reference to what it in my research so far.
I’ve not seen anything about it either, so I don’t know if there is an official direction to go. But, the thing to bear in mind is that you don’t want to untwist the twist you have just put in so keep a little tension on it as you wind. I tend to go the same direction as I spun, mostly because it just feels right to me 🤷🏼♀️

No need to spiral the yarn! It makes it harder to flick the spun single off the half hitch. (You can just put your index finger between the yarn and the shaft underneath the half hitch and flick it off.)
These days I sometimes spiral and sometimes don’t. Personally I don’t find getting the half hitch off any harder with the spiral than without, I just push it with my thumb - that may have something to do with the shape of the tip of my spindle.
