Thanks guys! My first sign 1/9/24. I made two mistakes; too much paint and shallow carving on smaller letters. I actually sanded so much I lost the details of the letters. I had to mask the board with tape and re-do the letters. I learned a lot with this first sign!!
Thanks again.
Tim Halleran
Awesome, man! You're gonna learn more and more and it honestly keeps getting more fun! When you're ready, send dad a picture of one of your signs so we can show it off on a SCOTD episode eric@makeawoodsign.com
Your bits and base plate are game changers! Can’t imagine doing signs without them.
Thank you Lou, we appreciate you❤
I gotta say Eric, your videos and instructional info have helped my sign company grow very quickly in fact I can hardly keep up w my custom orders
I'm thinking of brining on a helper. Thanks beau

Thanks Wallace! We're really looking forward to it!
Excellent tips ,i use a black and decker dn66 router, they don't even make them anymore but I can still find them on ebay or marketplace, I'm on my 8th machine..it works for me..🤣👍
Thank you buddy, appreciate you watching and the feedback❤
those were really great tips for new carvers and great reminders for the experienced carver
Thanks Pam! It's always good to get a little reminder here and there HAHA

HAHAHA i thought so too!
Nice job EZ E....🤘🤘🤘
Thanks Dan O!
Another excellent video. Where did you drum up those 3 bits at the beginning.
Thanks Don! Dad found those in a pile of old stuff we have. There's quite a bit of old stuff around here HAHA
awesome explanation! I bought a larger router for better control but I see a solid bigger base on my trim router would have helped. Still nice having a new shop toy ; )
Thanks buddy! And you can never go wrong with having a new toy in the shop HAHA!!
Great info really enjoy your videos as I learn. I want to order some templates just wondering if your still having issues with your website? Maybe it’s me. Thanks
Thanks, Tom! The website should be good to go now. Sorry for the inconvenience, but the improvements will bee worth it!
Just thinking - done so few times these days...Love the caps BUT they make it hard to see your eyes..."eyes are the doors to the mind" Some lower light stands wood (see what I did) help. Cheers
Ya, mom keeps telling me that too. I gotta lift my hat up a bit
Thanks guys for the tips. I have a bunch of dull bits that I cant get anyone up here across the line to sharpen. Have to find an excuse to come and visit you folk for a day or two haha Being in the Pacific NW during the winter Im lucky if I can get boards under 15% have to let them sit in my heated shop for a couple of weeks.
Ya, being up in that area I imagine it would be pretty tough to find good lumber. I guess you'd better come on down and hang out with us for a couple months!
@@oldave100 would love to come down next year. It would be my 80th bday present to me. lol
We would love it!!!
Great 👍👍👍👍🍺😎
Thank you
So is a DeWalt 611 still a good choice? It's the one I got when I first started with y'all ❤️❤️❤️❤️
It’s definitely a great router, we've just transitioned to more battery operated tools.
Love the cordless routers. Every time I use a corded router the cord would catch on something. Ruined many signs because of it.
It took me a long time, but I'm a huge fan of the cordless routers now.
Depth is always my problem.
Just keep at and play. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you, eric@makeawoodsign.com
I really like the Skil router I recently bought. It came with a plunge base, but it's also fully acrylic on the bottom, really easy to see what you're doing. It's a 2hp, fairly heavy, but I can put my hands around the acrylic base and move it around.
Kinda feels like I'm using an ouija board.😄
HAHA that's a great analogy!
The gospel from the Rhoten's. Yes, I belong to oversprayers anonymous. It's my curse. I'm working on it. Thanks for the reminders.
HAHA it's a hard habit to break, buddy!
