Started using 40 grit and really works great, doesn't clog at all. Just need to be careful or you may start losing some of the fine detail.
Yea it works great but you need to keep a LIGHT touch or you'll take off too much.

Hey Eric, you just solved one of my long-term issues. I have always been plagued by bleeding on both cedar and pine. I tried several different sanding ideas and was always left with slight bleeding because I couldn't go deep enough without damaging the outsets. I confess, I am a heavy sprayer and after seeing this little demo it was an aha moment for me. Like duh! Anyway thanks so much. My signs should look better and I should be less frustrated.

Great video, Eric. I'm often guilty of over spraying because I want the background to be a really solid color and think "one more spritz" will be okay. The over spray becomes apparent when more than normal sanding is required to remove the excess. Experimenting to develop the right touch is an excellent idea.

About your last video...I got excited about marketing possibilities, so when I went to the Doctors office yesterday, I was showing the Doctor and Nurse pictures of my signs...the receptionist heard me and said, "Do you sell your signs?" ... "Why, yes, ... yes I do", I said...she ordered a sign. Sometimes they just need to know that you do signs, and they already want one...Thanks a million...(I promise to try not to over-spray again...honest.)

It's funny that you have done this type of experiment considering I waited until I got home to watch this video and I'm having my own paint nightmares everything from bleeding to trying to do experiments that did not work

I recall in a previous video, you sprayed on a coat of sanding sealer before the primer. Does this help to eliminate the problems of over spraying. Great information as always.

Hey guys, sanding sealer stops bleed to right?...just wondering i know you said it somewhere but forgot...that's if you see this ..
Sanding sealer works, but it takes a while to dry. To prevent bleeding we use a couple light coats of clear.
@@oldave100 ok ..well I went and got sanding sealer last night, put a coat on few hours ago to see lol, like I've said, I've only used white oak and it bleeds in areas, can't wait to try another type of wood lol, but that's what I got for now as I have so many cut offs..thank you man, this short journey I been on carving has been cool and your vids have sent me on the right path...

Looks like I am the first to comment?? Eric, have you ever worked with acrylic paint? I have been using it on a couple of projects . There is no bleeding like the spray, but I have to apply it on with a brush. Also I want to see that sprayer handle work on a video. The one that attaches to the spray can. I have RA and have trouble pressing that button down on the spray can. So before I buy one I would like to see yours in action. Thanks, Pete
H Pete, I will be showing that on an upcoming video for sure. It works really good with all kinds of nozzles. Yes I have heard that about brush on acrylics, just don't know if I want to do that. Thanks Eric! I've been making some growth charts using the marsh ink with no sealer on the clear pine prior to carving. Bleeding is certainly a problem without using a sealer first. The reason I didn't use a sealer first is because I was planning on using a stain after carving and the manufacturer does not recommend using sanding sealer on woods that are to be stained because it will not penetrate as well. Pine is hard to stain anyhow! My question is have you ever brushed on a sealer after carving and does it distort the carving or cause the Marsh ink to run? I'm afraid it may coagulate as sanding sealer usually foams during application.
In my process, the sanding sealer is all gone by the time I put the stain on. Again my way is not the same as everyone else but it works for me. I put the sanding sealer on the board before I start the sign layout, so it's just on the surface, not in the carving. After you spray the carving and then sand it, the sanding sear is completely gone. I never brush the sanding sealer over the black, I'm sure it will run and streak on you. If you do a search on my channel I've done lots of videos on this.
