    Nice work! Just did this on a 2005 Outback XT... The turbo clearance is a pain pulling the trans... If I had to do it again, I would have removed the turbo since I also replaced the Union filter for the turbo.
    What I did for removing the axles was I pulled the front control arm bolts and lossesned the rear one's along with dropping the tie rod's. This way you dont mess with the aliment and you can also zip it back together fast. You also have a ton of space to pull axle and replace if.

    @taternoseface Ah, I got it now. I believe I did pop the balljoints off so I could swing the wheels out a bit and get the axles out of the trans. It may be possible to remove the axles without disconnecting the botton of the shock from the control-arm, but I've always just disconnected the control arms.

    @Oloughlin2777 I pried the axles out with a prybar against the transmission case. I though Iwoudl have to drive out the locating pin that the Outback wagon H6 auotbox uses, but not in this case.
    Took abut 6 hours out, 6 hours back in. About half of that time was wasted trying to get the engine seperated from the engine, and then abck together. Clearance between the top of the transmission and the bottom of the turbo is VERY tight.

    How did u get the cranny separated from the engine. Everything was smooth till this point. I only see 8 bolts. Don't think I'm missing any

    Would be a good a mark the position of the propeller shaft?

    What was the mileage on your car when you went ahead and changed the clutch? My 2002 Echo with 296 000KM still has the original clutch and I'm starting to anticipate having to change it pretty soon when it starts slipping. Of course I'd look at videos for my type of car, but I just stumbled on this one while looking at some other of your videos.

    Shouldn't the flywheel still need resurfacing if not replaced?

    i have a question, i have a 2006 subaru legacy gt with 33,000 miles and whenever i am preparing to takeoff my rpms sometimes reaches the 3's or higher and i slowly release the clutch, and when i do this about 5 seconds later i get a really bad smell emitting from the engine....what is it?

    Was the stock flywheel a single or dual mass?

    If you're going to rev to 3K plus for launch, slip a little and dump it...either way you're causing wear and tear. The transmission is tough, it can handle a dump or two ina short time, but you're driving a LEGACY GT...not a freak'n rally car. I love mine as all hell but let's be honest, it's a 4 door grocery getter with a little umph....treat it as such.

    How many bell housing fasteners are there?

    • @Scruit
      @Scruit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thinking back.. I believe there are 8. The two at the bottom are studs, the rest are bolts.

    @sbrideau2000 60k miles. I got the car at 47k I think.

    I don't actually nderstand what you're saying, but I will say that a bad TOB ay ~60k is a common problem in the legacy.

    that smell is burning friction material from your clutch. stop dumping it at 3 grand. highest you should have to rev it to start is 1800rpm
