In 1982 my wife and I sat down with a Chrysler sales rep and went thru a dealer order form, adding some things deleting other things and pretty much custom built our Tourismo 2.2. Black with a red interior. Mid year model change went from a red pinstripe to the red and orange racing stripes and big red 2+2 decals . Kind of a shock but it grew on us. The sunroof was removable and had a storage bag that clipped to rings on the floor of the cargo area. Took it cross country that summer and every where we were, people asked us what kind of a car it was. Lots of fun except at a gas station when I opened the hood for the attendant to check the oil (the car had less than 2000 miles on it at that time). The attendant went to close the hood and didn't realize there was a hood support holding the hood up. The strut held fine, but the hood kinked. He didn't know what kind of car it was and made an honest mistake because he hadnt opened the hood, i did.. Fantastic, fun car. We kept that car for ten years and loved every minute of it.

By 1990 2.2L N/A was discontined and they used the bigger 2.5.
Dad special ordered 2.2 charger in '84. Stick shift and no power steering was great fun. Fun fact. Speedo had no pin to stop going around twice. I got it to redline in top gear and back around to almost 10mph.
I think your Dad fell in love with that 2.2 he loves driving it. I can see him fixing it all up welding all the Floor pans he was having too much fun in it. Peppie
Close. Small cars were a result of fuel prices not global warming, That scam came later. Shelby did not do the first Omnis, and it was the K car that saved Chrysler. I had totally forgotten about the Tourismo. That is a rare find. I've go turbo Lasers and Daytonas, but was surprised when your non-turbo was able to burn rubber.
Great choice of car. 70's land yachts and 80's pocket rockets are my favourites. Just found this channel, so maybe it's been said before, but the father sure sounds like Marlon Brando.
When I was a kid I knew a neighbor who had one. She would start it up every morning to warm it up. It would be on high idle but then once it warmed up fully it would try to stall out and she would keep putting her foot on the accelerator to keep it running. Probably had a bad carb. Would always start back up but not like to idle sometimes. Her’s was a 1979 Dodge Omni looked like this car.

I miss my ‘81 Dodge 024. It had a dead 1.7l in it so I put a 1.6l VW Rabbit engine in it and later a GTI 5 speed. That car wasn’t the fastest but man it was fun to drive!
That's a good engine, from what little I know. But if I were going to use an older engine I'd put a 340 in it since I think there are probably more performance parts available for it, than a 318. If it were mine, and I could afford it, I'd put the 5.7 hemi in it. That is if it would fit. By now you can tell I'm not a mechanic.☺️
I totally understand why they abandoned it. Worst car I've ever owned in my life. I had one back in 1999. I left it on the side of the highway with a signed title sitting on the front seat. Every other week I was replacing something on it.

thanks for the memories.
wish i kept this one as well
Thats a rare car. I bought an 81 charger 2.2 new snd only 7306 were made. A whole lot less of the torismo’s 2.2’s were made
Do you have an estimate of how many? I wish it wasn’t so rough. The motor is STRONG!
Seeing these cars new, id say less then a 1/4 of the 7306 charger 2.2 production from what i saw new
That rear hatch matched you, groan for groan.
It sure did!
nothing against what you are doing but i enjoy the long videos. they tend to show most of the steps they take to get the vehicle running.
For sure! Tried showing the entire process on this one! Any tips to make it better for next time?
