I strongly support @murranz' recommendation! You could calmly read random pages from the Merk Index and help thousands of people relax and drift off to sleep. Seriously. On another topic, I often encounter "supplement experts" who are adamant about taking folate rather than folic acid for reasons of absorption; is this just an urban myth? The lowest pKa (of three) which I find listed for folic acid is 2.38. Given that most people's stomach acid is in the range of pH 1.5- 2, then any folate ingested will exist predominately in the acid form. Is there something I'm missing here?
Haha I considered making some videos of me reading some boring pharmaceutical texts but I think there would be some copyright issues there. But I’m still considering something along these lines! Hrm maybe the ‘supplement experts’ are using the term folate interchangeably with methylfolate? Since folate is the natural form found in foods it wouldn’t make sense to be taking ‘folate’ since it doesn’t come in supplement form. I do often see people using the term folate interchangeable with folic acid etc. so it can get confusing.
Hope this video makes it easier for you to choose a folate supplement! 😀
